And with the scheduling change that forces teams to use 4 pitchers in the ALCS, it will make a difference.
Ok, ok...maybe I am getting a little ahead of myself being we are out one World Series MVP Pitcher, one current Cy Young candidate pitcher who has amassed 10 wins and a low 2. ERA, the second best catcher in baseball and perennial All Star, The 2007 World Series MVP, The 2007 AL MVP who on his last non injured night went 5-5 with 3 HRs, a guy that stole 70 bases last year as well as a handful of others...

And still only one game out of first place. Remarkable when you really think about it. While guys like Darnell McDonald, Bill Hall, and Daniel Nava aren't exactly household names, they've been keeping our outfield together while we wait for everyone. Pedroia and Victor going down really hurts though, they were both swinging the bat very well as of late. We're going to need Youkilis and Beltre (who very quietly is having a MONSTER year) to carry the load until everyone gets back. And when everyone is back and healthy, we are stacked 1-9 and our rotation is tops in baseball. Nobody is going to beat Lester/Beckett/Buchholz/Lackey if the Sox make it to the ALCS. I can't believe the solid last couple months they've had with all the injuries that have taken place.
I think my spirit is finally broken...

It's not too bad just yet... some of the injuries weren't as bad as they could have been, we have a 3-game series coming up that should be freebies (or with the injuries, at least somewhat competitive), and we have a catcher who at least knows how to work with Wakefield for tonight.
Lackey just looked at Francona as he walked to the mound and belted out a, "What the ****, I'm fine." (I love lip reading all the cool stuff in baseball games that you never get to hear.)
You have to appreciate Lackey. At least because he is a guy that wants the ball...
Oh well, Sox have to lose sometimes...
In more enlightening news, Reverse of the Curse of the Bambino is on HBO right now! I always tear up when they get to game 6 and the bloody sock. :wink2:

Ok, time to go BBQ on this great day with great weather.
Youkilis just came out of the game with a lower leg injury. You've got to be ******* kidding me.
It better be a cramp!
And for all we know, Beltre probably has a micro fracture in his knee with that foul ball, but we won't get the news until tomorrow.
Heck, we'll be promoting guys up from the Portland Sea Dogs to the starting lineup by late July at this rate...
This is a great day for me because the Rangers aquired Cliff Lee. Im suprised the mariners sent him to a team in the same division but im happy they did. Im also glad he didnt end up on the yankees like was reported earlier today because i didnt want to hear a certain someone on here cry about it. :)
Tough loss.

My condolences to his family. Tough week for the Yanks, their long time PA announcer dies a few days ago and now the owner of the team today.
Damn...Inge, Guillen, and Ordonez all on the DL. What a sucky 5 days for the Tigers.
I'd say I feel for you, but with Boston this season basically having the "best" DL team in the history of baseball, I don't have much pity.
To put the season in perspective just look at catcher: Martinez gets injured, Varitek takes his spot and gets injured, Mark Wagner and Dusty Brown (top two catchers at AAA Pawtucket) both get injured, and we get Gustavo Molina a guy with a career .122 BA as the number 1 (although Brown did finally make it back this week, so really we have our 4th string catcher in now instead of our 5th string. Yay!)
I don't even want to get into the outfield, the infield or the fact that 3 out of 5 starting pitchers have been on the DL. It just makes me sad. :(

Yeah i have to agree with you. Its pretty amazing the sox are still in contention with all the injuries they have had. I hope they can sweep the Angels this week.
This girl is my hero. Yes girls mature earlier than boys and all that jazz but this girl throws a 65mph knuckleball! Tim Wakefield, I think we've found your replacement, start training her now! :)
And to top it off, we got no hit by the Rays. The ******* Rays. Great week.
Normally, I'd be ****** because I hate the Rays, but my fantasy team did have Garza in the lineup last night. Oh, and Joe Mauer too! (speaking of guys that put up major points.)

Bacchus, you forgot to mention that the Red Sox were so thin at catcher that they had to trade for Kevin Cash (career BA: .185), who was given the majority of the time at catcher over the last few weeks. So happy that Victor is back. I read in one article that during Martinez's 22-game absence, Red Sox catchers only had TWO RBI, from Varitek, who drove them in on June 29. So, Red Sox catchers (Cash, Brown, and Molina) went nearly AN ENTIRE MONTH without producing an RBI. Absolutely pathetic. It took Victor Martinez exactly one game after coming off the DL to out-produce the month that those 3 scrubs had at the plate. Cash only batted .149, and was especially awful when it mattered the most (0-11 with runners in scoring position). I can't wait to get him out of the picture permanently once Varitek is back.
I heard Ellsbury is on a rehab assignment right now, and with him at the top of the lineup we're a much more dangerous team, and can move Scutaro to the 2-hole until Pedroia gets back. A lineup of Ellsbury, Pedroia, Martinez, Ortiz, Youkilis, Beltre, Drew, Cameron, Scutaro finally back together again is poised to do some damage. Scutaro I think will benefit from not having to deal with the pressure of batting leadoff. Not only will this lineup be one of the best in baseball once fully intact, but our starting rotation will be too. Beckett had a solid outing the other night coming off the DL, and Dice-K has had two good starts in a row. Lackey has as well, and needs to just be more consistent. Lester and Buchholz have been dominant from the get-go. Solid bench we'll have too with guys like Hall, Lowrie, Varitek, and McDonald, assuming he stays when Ellsbury comes back.
You make a lot of good points, AJ. It really just has to all come together. If we get our full team back, I think we are the best team in baseball. The only real question is, will everyone stay healthy upon return and will we be too far out by then to make a run?
On a redemptive note:
Jason Bay: .258 BA 6 HR 47 RBI - and headed to the DL. So Theo actually IS a genius, haha!
(I can remember everyone on Boston.com whining when Theo refused to pay his ransom.)
Jason had a choice, have a few dollars more and play in cavernous Citi Field with a .500 team or take the home team paycut and swat balls all season over the net in Fenway to a sold out crowd screaming his name.
I wonder if he is rethinking his choice at this point...
Red Sox have not made any major moves. The Yankees got better.
I'm ready to call it a season (although I always am at this point but they will make a run to draw me back in...)
On the upside, Ryan Kalish is playing tonight. I love to see high end prospects in the Sox organization getting an opportunity to play.
The one thing the Sox have going for them is their farm and in the end, maybe this is the bridge year Theo alluded to and we just need to get to 2012 when all these farm studs are part of the regular squad.
I am patient.
(Ok, not really but I play a patient Red Sox fan on TV!)
We should be fine Bacchus. Only Pedroia, Ellsbury, and Varitek left that we're waiting on. I also read today that they're going to convert Felix Doubront to a reliever for right now and they hope him and Bowden can help out the pen down the stretch, since right now we only have two relievers who I even remotely trust.
