The Celebrity Apprentice: Episode 703 - Mr. Outside the Box
We are three episodes into the celebrity edition of The Apprentice. I have to admit that I was prepared to take a pass on this, as I have done the last two seasons. I'm just tired of the Trumpster. He's loud, arrogant, egotistical. But I guess all those things make a successful business man. Anyway, here I am watching because A) There is a writer's strike and the pickings are slim B) I wanted to see Omarosa get fired again and C) I was intrigued with the casting of Gene Simmons. The third episode started off (well I missed the first few minutes, so I'm not sure how it really started) with The Donald telling Gene that he can stay on his team or go over to the women's team and lead them to victory. Of course Gene cannot refuse and heads over taking the role of Project Manager for the second week in a row. An ego is a dangerous thing my friend and Gene Simmons has plenty arrogance and ego. Much like last week, he refused to meet with the company to find out their objective and learn about the product he would be selling. He started his campaign planning even before learning what the product was...already had his tagline. Nothing was going to steer him away from his vision. Nothing. Last week out of sheer luck, he and Stephen Baldwin managed to pull of this risky strategy. But luck remained with Mr. Baldwin and his team. Even after Stephen spilled coffee on the one laptop with all the good stuff on it. I'm skimping on the details, because honestly I was half listening to the show while I played my new on-line addiction Text Twirl :D In the boardroom, it was the usual who do you think should be fired. You'd think they'd all say Gene. But no. The women seemed more determined to get rid of the quiet ones. Even when Nely Galan was pointed out to have annoyed Kodak during her interview with them to learn about the product. Donald asked Carol Alt (who was paired with Nely) and she didn't think Nely should be fired. She threw herself on the sword and said she would fire either her or Nely. Hello? Anyone home? Nely said Jennie Finch should be fired. The Donald wasn't having any of that. He was flabbergasted on why they were picking on Jennie, she didn't have anything to do with their loss. Finally we get the truth from Omarosa. She says Gene should be fired. Then when Donald asks Gene who he is going to bring in with him to the board room. He asks if he can only bring one. The Donald says yes. To make things even more absurd, Gene says he's bringing in Omarosa! Mr. Trump flat out tells Gene that he is doing himself a disservice. Trump tells Gene to name an another name to make three. Then further states if he were Gene he should seriously consider bringing in Nely. Gene ignores Trump and brought in Jennie. There wasn't much debate in the board room. Trump lectured Gene a bit and then fired him. Gene exited graciously, but even after losing the task he stood by his decisions and he was right and Kodak was wrong. Ah, to be Gene Simmon in Gene's World. I'm looking forward to more drama...that Piers Morgan sure rubs people the wrong way. He's already butted with Omarosa and previews elude to a confrontation with Vinnie Pastore.
I thought it was a very entertaining episode even though I was disappointed with the outcome. The Donald knew that Gene was this seasons meal ticket and for the first time in the history of the show you could hear the Trumpster actually begging a contestant to not get themselves fired! Gene was of course, way to cocky and wearing mental blinders the whole time along with his signature shades. The real problem was the meeting with the executives. They didn't get the ink message which was why Kodak was paying the big bucks for this product placement on the show. I don't fault Gene for not going, I fault the 33% of the team that did go and missed the boat. Gene could have brought either one with him (even though I love Carol) and they would have been fired. Yes, a very good argument could be made to fire Gene too, but what fun would that be? Now the obvious favorite (or at least mine) is gone. The reason I am so disappointed is because if Gene really wanted to win, he could have advanced. He choose not to throw Nely under the bus, even though the bus was actually already on top of her. Very gracious, but not in line with the spirit of this competition. That would never happen on a real season. I almost wish Trump would have just fired her on the spot and changed the rules mid-stream. Now that would have been exciting! He could have said something like, "I am The Donald and I know what is best for you Gene. Nely your fired. Next week smarten up Gene or your next. Get out of here..." It looks like the next couple weeks should be fun and even though I was pulling for the gals this week (because of Mr Know-It-All) I am back on the guys side for the next round. There is something about the crazy Baldwin that I like. He is really giving it 110% in a special needs kind of way!
Piers Morgan sure rubs people the wrong way.
Yes, but he is so darn funny! ;)
