I can't wait for the karaoke!
I can't wait for the karaoke!
The Masters is still on, so it is going to be delayed.
Alright, I am just turning this on. Recorded Cold Case to make sure I got it.
Tonight’s episode was alright. I thought the Karaoke detour was funny. I would have definitely picked that over the false teeth… I thought that Lakisha and Jennifer were done for when Phil sent them back. They should have turned around while they had the chance (like Tammy and Victor did). The two brothers lucked out again! I had a feeling that it was going to be a non-elimination leg. I forgot that it was against the rules to use personal items as pay. Unless something happens, they are definitely gone next week. I am ready for them to go. Cara and Jamie are really starting to get on my nerves... I don’t know who I am rooting for at this point. I really don’t have a favorite team.
I totally thought they were done for sure as well! I was so excited that they came back and beat Mark and Michael. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...non-elimination leg? **** IT! Can't they just go HOME already? If Mark and Michael aren't done after this next leg, I will stop watching. They are by far my least favorite team. Yay for Margie and Luke for coming in first! They did really well considering how their last leg ended up. Karaoke looked AWESOME. I totally would have done that as well. I wonder how many teams (apart from Kisha and Jen) realized they were transvestites... Cara or Jamie (I can't tell which) is such a ***** to everyone! I feel bad for her taxi drivers. I hope they at least tip nicely. Next week looks feisty!
I agree with everything you said Phoenix. Karaoke was fun, a nice break to let loose in the race. I can't believe how long those penalties were! 2hrs each, man! Does anyone know why that penalty is so much worse than say following a taxi like the brothers did last task? I am also very ready for them to go. Teams are starting to get dirty next week! Looks like it will be a tight race.

I mean come on...a flashlight? **********? "Very expensive?" Gimme a break.

I don't remember them getting a penalty though, which is why I was so surprised at the huge time. The watch was probably the only comparable item to the fare. Why can't they just leave already?!
Ah, that would make sense. Didn't Dandrew give shoes or something to a taxi in I think Russia last season? Why can't they just leave already?!
Yeah, they gave up shoes last season and had to buy new ones in the airport. Maybe that's why they decided to enforce that rule. I'm not sure if it was just enacted this season, or if it's been in place for a while now. I don't know if it was worth a 2 hour time penalty, but I do think it deserved to be quite heavy. That's why BEFORE you get in the cab, you say "Hey, I only have ___...can that get me to _____?" If they say no, find someone else!
Those penalties were rough, if almost excessive. Still, it makes sense as if someone had a Rolex or something they could trade that out for some serious cash and have a huge advantage against the field. Clearly the guys knew what they did was wrong as they stated they would not have been able to make it back had they not broken the rules. The funniest thing was the look on Phil's face during the entire exchange. He actually looked angry at them for breaking the rules on his show, lol. I wasn't as much a fan of the karaoke detour as you guys being there was no challenge to it. All you had to do was read what was on the screen and traffic was the only variable (although I found the teeth option disgusting.) I prefer detours where you have to do something with a given level of challenge in order to proceed (and can possibly get stuck allowing other teams to move past.) I think I am sticking with my original bet, the sibling lawyers. They seem nice enough and although they were a bit rough around the edges in the beginning with their ethics, they now seem to be running a clean game. I still hold a grudge against Margie & Luke for the U-Turn and Jaime & Cara's need to browbeat taxi drivers because they don't speak English leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm neutral concerning Kisha & Jen and don't dislike Mark & Michael although they seem to be losing the game because of consistently making bad decisions. Looks like next week the game gets personal!

These flaw self-admission interviews represent a technique used to soften the audience toward people who are leaving views with such a negative reaction that they become a reason not to watch.
I am surprised how many teams that I truly dislike- Mark and Michael for their persistent breaking of the rules, Kisha and Jen - IDK why... and I'm starting to dislike Jamie and Cara due to their ethnocentricity- people in all of these countries should speak English just for you? Previews for next week look to solidify that gut dislike of Kisha and Jen....

Phil blogs about episode 8 of The Amazing Race.
One of the things the Race does is give you a good idea of who would be useful on a desert island. And while Victor may be at the top of his game as a lawyer, he clearly isn't blessed with some very practical skills. I'm always amazed at how many very capable people have no idea how to do practical things. For two guys who seem to know how to do just about everything, Mark and Michael really fell apart in this episode. Just when it looked like they were going to break out and start leading the pack, they were hit with a four-hour penalty because they continued to break the rules. Who knows where those guys would be in this game if they played within the regulations. Two penalties last week and two penalties this week? That's insane. I believe they are the most penalized team in the history of the Race. We all joked about Mark and Michael having done everything. No matter what anybody working on the production said they had done, those two guys had done it or knew how to do it. There is no doubt they have a lot of life experience, but after a while it got quite hysterical. On another point, one of the golden rules of traveling on the Race (or traveling, period) is that you never lose sight of the essentials -- namely, your passport and a way to buy yourself out of trouble. No matter where I go in the world, I never lose contact with or sight of either. After seeing what happened to Toni and Dallas in season 13, you would have thought we would never see a repeat of their costly mistake. I don't think we really touched on it in the show, but that boat ride after they finished assembling the propeller was about 45 minutes long -- and that's in a boat. Jump in a taxi and add traffic, and that turns into a two-hour cab ride. It's almost impossible to overcome that type of play. I love the Detour in this episode. Margie was amazing. And as she said, being a nurse really helped her in finding the right piece for the perfect smile. I actually felt quite sick when I was on location. I definitely would have gone with the karaoke. I don't know how a dentist goes digging around in people's mouths. This was definitely Margie's leg. Obviously Luke was right there with her, but she was driving the team this week. From the propellers to the dentures, she had her A game on. By the way, all of us on the show thought the dentures were going to take quite a while to complete, but Margie flew through that challenge. She was reaching into the locals' mouths without hesitation. I would say she probably finished that in about 5 minutes. They were on a mission this week. I was really impressed with the way she bounced back after her collapse on the mat last week. A lot of you commented last week that it seemed like we dragged out that scene. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The safety of everyone is our No. 1 priority. If you really think otherwise, then you clearly don't know the outstanding safety record we've had for the past 14 seasons. Enough said. One of the more odd occurrences from tonight’s episode was the flooding of the streets. It was a little disconcerting, to be honest, for all of us in production. When we first started seeing the rising water, we started to panic a little, but then we were informed by some of the locals that this was a daily occurrence. The river rose above the banks and spilled over into the city. Pretty freaky. Favorite scene from tonight's episode was the party taxis ... so fun. Classic Race moment -- taking the racers completely out of their element and throwing them into an "out of this world" scenario. Without a doubt, Tammy and Victor welcomed the karaoke with open arms. All of the teams seemed to have fun. I don't think Mark and Michael knew that their backup singers were transvestites. They made it all the way through the ride without knowing, and then I think one of the locals told them ... reminds me of that scene in The Crying Game. I've been teeing it up for weeks now, and we're finally here: Next week is the most memorable mat meltdown of all time. Margie and Luke vs. Kisha and Jen. These two teams battle throughout the entire leg and end up with mere seconds separating them at the check in. I've never seen two teams go at it like this before and have it carry all the way to the mat. Thank you to all of those who understand just how much energy this ride is taking out of me right now. I am very focused on raising money and awareness for MS. And riding 100 miles a day in rain, sleet or snow is definitely taking a toll. Makes me wish I could multiply myself like Michael Keaton did in Multiplicty. I'm 1,500 miles into my ride, doing open casting calls along the way, and the response has been overwhelming. We'll keep you updated on future casting calls on www.philridesacrossamerica.com. A huge thank you to Margie and Luke, who turned up in the pouring rain in Denver to support the start of one of my MS rides. Having you there meant a lot.
[via ew]
I knew there was some good still in Margie and Luke. I just think they are playing a really good game right now and taking no prisoners. Like Luke said, they are playing for a million dollars, and especially right now, who can really blame them for a little elbowing here and there. 5 minutes to finish the dentures! Man she was quick! I still think I would have done the karaoke just because I would probably go into it with the mentality that I would always do the more fun sounding task to make sure that if I left the race I would have enjoyed my experience all the way through. Always keep the fanny pack with you! I would be so paranoid about loosing my documents and money that I think I would have that thing surgically attached to me, haha.
I happen to like all the teams. I like Cara and Jamie. Jamie is one of those girls who yell at people who don't get their way. Everyone had a few of those in high school. I think it's funny she hasn't matured- but it still makes for good television. I happen to like Margie and Luke. I think they are strong competitors. And for Mark and Michael, I don't dislike them, they just make stupid moves. The penalty seemed a bit harsh. in a few seasons, people gave the cabbies something if they didnt have money, whether it was a huge kiss or shoes, I don't know why they are really breaking down on them!

I just hate the way she talks to people. What did she expect going on a race around the WORLD? Everyone to hold her hand and speak perfect English? C'mon. Maybe the Race has helped her grow and she is now a more understanding person. As for Mark and Mike, I am pretty ambivalent towards them. I guess I am just ready for them to leave since they have made so many mistakes I can't believe they are still around. And they are not like Dandrew last season who brought the funny along with their mistakes, especially with the marching task! That always gives me a chuckle.
I can completely see how people can dislike Jamie. Not so much Cara, Jamie is a *****. I never said i would be friends with her and hold her hand, but that's her personality. Hopefully after the race she will see how she acted and will mature. I also agree about mark and michael. their time is up. not because i don't like them as a team, but because of all their mistakes. They seem kind of clueless. But they just seem jolly sometimes. i just want to pick them up and squeez their cheeks!
Yeah Cara is fine, actually I should like her more for putting up with Jamie and still keeping her cool! Clueless is a great way to describe Mike and Mark. I always though the nickname The Tweedles the other racers gave them fit them perfectly.
