Do you think they will renew their contracts? i hope they do!
Of course. RW is one of the shows MTV is known for, I don't think there is any way they will cancel it, unless the show starts getting horrendous ratings, like under 1 million.
As long as we have the RW, we will have the challenges.

Ok, perfect!
The only thing that can be done to improve the challenges is to cast more interesting and crazy people on the Real World. Those people cast on the Real World will go on challenges and add different elements to the show.
Another suggestion is to make a limit for how many challenges one can do in a row before taking a break. The limit should be two or three in a row, and then they have to take a break before they go on another challenge. This allows them to not use the same people every challenge.
I loved BOTSexes. I just finished rewatching it. It definitly was one of the best seasons hands down.
Where are you guys rewatching the old challenges?
I definitely agree with the most of the stuff said, but the number one way to improve the challenges is to get rid of TJ. Dave and Johnny were alright, but TJ has done 7 challenges in a row, and no offense, but he sucks, as I have read many agree. I think it'd be kinda interesting if they had a challenge with all freshmeat, except they're playing to host the next RW/RR challenge. TJ rarely makes sense and is predictable with his infamous "you're a true competitor" or "i'm sure we'll see you again" overused one-liners.
The other thing about TJ is it seems his personality (or what little he had) has just disappeared since the Gauntlet 2. He used to actually provide somewhat bland commentary but now it's just those overused one liners.
well i watched some of the old challenges and overall it think there should be way better editing. Like the past challenges like BOTS and even up to like Inferno 1 the editing was pretty decent but now after watching the duel 2 it's just sloppy.

I agree with you so much.

I know I Love Money is like the poor man's RW/RR challenge but the ILM host Craig is SO much better than TJ, he comes up with the best one liners. I know they are trying to give extreme sports people their props, but they would be better off trying to hire a comedian or people with personality, I think Mark or Timmy would be great at hosting.
I agree with the 2-3 challenge max then rest for a couple of challenges, seeing the same people over and over again gets annoying. This season they focused more on the challenges than they have in a while and they should keep doing that. But it seems likely lately they've been all about the extreme physical challenges and while I do love the physical, one of my favorite challenges was Sidekick Showdown on Battle of the Seasons or the one where they were wrestling while attached two at a time (think that was BOTS as well), they could have more entertaining challenges like that. I think they should bring back the inner circle format, I thought it added a layer of drama that made it intresting.
He has better one-liners but has this annoying monotone voice. I'd much rather hear TJ talk.
See his deadpan delivery makes the one-liners even funnier for me! But I don't think Craig needs to come to MTV just meant to say that having a comedian or professional personality as opposed to an athlete would make the missions and interactions with the host more entertaining.
now with the challenges they're all like HD and it kind of takes the realness from the filming if that made any sense.
Aren't they only in HD online?
As for ratings people also need to take into account the hits and views the shows get on MTV.com as well as rerun ratings. I dont know about now, but for a long time RW had strong ratings in its first airings as well as reruns all week long. I have a news article saved i used for a write up i did about ratings talking about how ad hits online make up for falling ratings, sometimes even making more money in a situation like MTV where people are forced to watch a commercial for one product many times during a showing. Thats why hulu.com is doing well.
Also, i could be wrong but MTV doesnt own the real world, they pay a licincing fee that pays for the show, but MTV were to ax it the production co could then ship it around for a new home. I think this is how it works, but i dont know the details between BMTV & MTV. I know this is how it works for many shows tho. If it is im sure the reason they have not done this for RR is because of RW & Challenges.
How to improve the Challenges.

Retire TJ Lavin. He rambles too much, has little personality, he's annoyingly repetitive and there's a difference between being a good host and being a nag. Those "quitter" spiels are getting tired, and they were tired after he gave his first speech to Cameran back on Gauntlet 2.

THINK before casting, and make the missions more fun and less of a Fear Factor/Worst Case Scenario knock off. This is why I love I Love Money so much--they remind me of Duel 1 on back because the missions were more comedic , creative and entertaining, and the casting was centered on people who actually left dents with the fans.

Even out the screen time. Just because Evan, Kenny and John are are doesn't mean that they have to play narrator. Leave it to the men, the myths, the legends: Mark, Timmy and Theo V.

Do a better job at casting some old-schoolers (Real World 15/Road Rules 13 on back). Reading the cast list for the next show proves that BMP hadn't been putting up much effort to cast some of the people who made the Challenges what they are. That said, I was surprised to see the MTV.com teenyboppers' response to the likes of Frank, Jillian, Adam K., Rachel and Mark. That brings me to...

Take a break from casting certain people--no more than three shows in a row. I'll have to agree with the many posters up-thread who think the same. That also brings me to...

Quit relying on the Fresh Meat so much. There are some that we haven't seen on. If they've moved on, I congratulate them. If BMP hadn't been making much of an effort to cast the more focused ones like Aviv, Jesse, Linette or (it pains me to say this, :hang1:Johnnie), the shame on them for sticking us with misogynists and phonies like Evan and Kenny. Had they not changed the rules for RR14 on a weekly basis, we'd have more Road Rulers, and as a result, possibly less and less of Evan, Kenny and their lapdogs.
Sorry for the long post. That's all that I can think of at the moment.
Good list, jjlucash!
I agree with #1. TJ's "quitter" speeches are getting really old. I'm also sick of him saying "but not for lack of effort." I remember on the Gauntlet 2 he said the rookie teams lost the $10,000 Pyrimid challenge "not for lack of effort" when in reality they lost for that exact reason...they refused to send out a final group to go. Sounds like lack of effort to me.
Honestly, I don't even think he realizes what he says half the time.
I just finished rewatching Battle of the Seasons and I remembered why I liked the challenges so much. First off, the challenges weren't so physical. I mean, if I wanted to watch people with athletic skill, I would watch ESPN. After three or four episodes of the duel 2, I was like yeah we get it, landon is strong.
1. Make the challenges less about physical ability and more about teamwork, puzzle solving skills, or some random **** like Inner Tube Tango.
2. I think they should also make "Sidekick Showdown" an annual thing on the challenges. It was a good one and it's mad cheap for production. No intricate safety equipment required.
3. I definitely think they should do another Battle of the Seasons. I know there hasn't been many RR seasons in a while, but hopefully they could get a few of the old seasons represented. Viewer's Revenge, X-treme, South Pacific, Campus Crawl, and The Quest shouldn't be a problem. They could make it another 8 team vs. 8 team Real World/Road Rules challenge. And honestly, getting The Real World represented won't be a problem since there's been about fifty seasons.
4. I think the challenge's casts have sucked. Yeah, there's definitely a few who are good, but the problem is that the casts just aren't likable anymore, and they're rarely ever humorous either. When watching BOTS, I was rootin for the RW but I still liked watching Timmy. Now, I can barely stand watching half the people from the team I am rooting for.
The challenges before the Gauntlet 2 were so much more interesting then the ones after. Like, the ice cream eating and chicken suit running and melting ice. They should do more of those kinds of challenges. We haven't seen a team challenge since the Gauntlet 3 and we definatly need another one. I think battle of the sexes 3 would be an interesting idea as well.

I don't think they can do another battle of the sexes, because of legal issues.
Hi, Fellow Vevmo'ers! I'm brand new here but have posted on the RW/RR-related message boards on imdb.com. We recently had a discussion there about getting a petition started to send to MTV about how to improve the challenges. Here is the link if anyone's interested in signing it. Hopefully we can get a lot of signatures/suggestions & maybe, just maybe, MTV will actually take notice. We're obviously very passionate about the challenges & we should be allowed to have some input, right? Thanks in advance for voicing your opinion.

I thought the only issue was the name, which isn't really an issue. Just call it Boys VS. Girls

No its not just the name, its the concept as well.
Oh, so in order to do it they would have to change the whole format of the show?
I don't think we will ever see one again. Besides, they would have done it by now if they were allowed too.

Yup. That is one way to improve. Try new things!
I agree with everything that jjlucash said, most importantly the thing about TJ Lavin. He seems like a nice guy and everything, but he says the same things every time. I noticed on The Duel he said "Good job (insert name), you killed it." at the end of every mission and every Duel. It was annoying as hell!
Most people know that I'm not big on the FM people still being on these challenges, but I think that's only because they take airtime away from RW/RR people that I actually like and want to see on these shows. Plus I really wish they could get some different FM people on here (Linette, Aviv, Chanda (I know she said she wanted to do it but was considered too boring... as if casting Casey is any better), Johnnie, etc).
