Who cares. Kenny and Wes dominated the 1st day and deserved the lead they earned. Had the mountain part been apart of the first day and they got rid of the stupid standing on a rock/sleeping portion, Wes and Kenny would have won easily. Basically, if it was a normal Final, Kenny and Wes would have won. The worse part about it was they weren't even told it would be a 2 day event and they would only be getting a 2 minute lead on everyone else.
I concur with all this.
I was also really impressed with Mike, even after he quit. This guy has A LOT of heart. He came in completely unprepared, and it's not like he's very athletic and doesn't need to prepare. So looking at how far he got in the final was pretty impressive.
How many days did they have to acclimatize to the conditions in Patagonia? What was the elevation of their location? Just curious... If they didn't have much time to adapt, maybe some players were suffering from altitude sickness? The whole forced eating thing was absurd. Making them eat until they vomit? It seems the producers were trying to make the contestants sick. I'd rather see them all compete at one hundred percent.
I have a feeling that the puking montage was more of a result of the first person puking and then everyone following suit. I'm not sure if you ever witnessed anyone vomit in a crowded place but it tends to make other loose stomachs lose it too, haha. I think combined with the fact that they were all exhausted and also eating food that seemed less than pleasant created that beautiful (sarcasm) piece of footage. Or I could be totally wrong and that was just ridiculous editing. But I know when I see someone vomit, I usually feel like I'm gonna puke too.
Okay, lets have scavenger hunt and i put your key closer to you and mines will be on the other side of field. Even with a head start it didn't matter. .....AND WHY COULDN'T KENNY RUN ON WITHOUT HIM AND FIND THE KEY?
You're just making excuses. Nothing from the key hunt gave Johnny/Tyler an unfair advantage, at least from what's shown. Kenny and Wes had a head start, not much of one considering their lead but it was something. They also found their GPS device first and their key was located closer to the finish line. It was a little to the side but nothing about the location gave them a disadvantage. Wasn't like it was down a huge slope or on a near-by peak or something. Plus, they found their key no more than 5 seconds after Johnny/Tyler found theirs. And it wouldn't have mattered if Kenny ran ahead to find the key since Wes would still be lagging and both were needed at the trophies in order to win.

People don't want to see that.
I don't feel like showing people's puke is necessary. I look away every time, but still... I really think Fear Factor did a better job mostly in making you think someone was about to become ill.
Q: Two months ago you whined about taking Adam Royer No. 1 overall in the Grantland Reality TV Draft, insisting you screwed up by passing on C.T. No one has approached his 164 points and it took him only one week. Don't you need to show him some love for carrying your team thus far? — Derrick, Bismarck, MD SG: Yes and no … "yes" because it turned out to be a great pick, "no" because I lost him within an hour. Wouldn't it have been more fun to root for CT over the course of two months, especially during moments like last week when everyone in the bar was screaming at him, CT's lava was bubbling to the surface and it looked like he was going to snap and start punching everyone in the room like Liam Neeson cleaning out that yacht in Taken? Even if Adam turned out to be the Mario Williams of this draft, a controversial no. 1 overall pick who turned out to be the right choice … he just wasn't that memorable. I should have gone M******* at no. 1 and taken CT. It was the right thing to do. While we're here, I'd like to congratulate the Jim Thome of the Challenge (Paula) and the Dirk Nowitzki of the Challenge (Johnny Bananas) for winning their first title and third title, respectively, as well as the LeBron & Wade (Kenny & Wes) for falling short.
via
I love Bill Simmons...I can't wait to see expanded thoughts on the final. I don't see how Kenny is LeBron and Wes is Dwyane. If anything Kenny is Dwyane because he didn't play incredibly well the entire game (the Chicago series) but carried his team in the final, and Wes is LeBron because he played and talked a great game until the final and then underperformed. But calling Wes the LeBron of the challenge world also upsets me.
Johnny, Tyler, Paula, and Evelyn (The Challenge, Lane, Connor, Jacoby, House): 50 points each. A victory in the final challenge (50 points apiece) on The Challenge means winning the most intense sport in which our species has ever participated. If you're reading this and think you could have done it, just stop. You couldn't have. No, not even you. Here's what you would have had to do: Get pulled under water by a boat, kayak for miles, jog for miles while holding a ball and chain, stop and memorize every detail of a campsite, shovel a huge pile of manure, slosh across a swamp, build a perfect replica of the aforementioned campsite, jog uphill (still carrying the ball and chain), eat a large meal, puke a lot, jog uphill again, and then rest — for the day. Then, sleep in ten-minute shifts through the entire night, jog to the top of a real mountain, find a homing device, find a key, then sprint all the way back up the mountain to a trophy. The Challenge is a lockout and logo away from truly being our fifth professional sport. Jenn (The Challenge, Kang): 10 points. Jenn, whatever you do, don’t retire. The Challenge needs you, the GRTFL needs you, and Adam King needs you because no other woman will talk to him. You can’t leave after crying twice (10 points) and getting DQ'd from a challenge. You need a proper send-off. You need a retirement ceremony filled with speeches, tears, and Rolls Royces, a la Kareem Abdul Jabbar's. In 20 years, Jenn will be complaining that there's no statue of her outside MTV’s Times Square headquarters. Mandi (The Challenge, Lane): 5 points. Mandi choked in the challenge. But it’s cool — she likes choking.
via
The final looked way over the top. It absolutely needs to be physical and test endurance to an extent, but like other people have said, they aren't professional athletes. I also didn't like the fact that 90% of the final only accounted for a 2 minute head start in the actual final(day 2). That was a buzz kill for me. Other then that, I enjoyed rivals, happy to see another season. I hope it's one where challenges are a little more innovative and team-work oriented. The last 4? were so bland. I still remember my favorite challenge was the one where they were in a ~15 foot pit and had a few random objects with the goal of getting everyone out of the pit. More challenges like that!
This final kind of sucked. Yeah, it looked ridiculously grueling and definitely isn't something I could do. But when they make it this intense, and it's just hours of them doing kind of mundane things like eating and shoveling dirt, it's not that fun to watch. I thought The Ruins final was good, what with all the different obstacles and checkpoints but going back to the one spot every time--it didn't seem as monotonous and it also made it hard to tell who was in the lead.

I though the whole, let's make them do manual labor, and memorize a tent scene, and if they get it wrong they'll have to run another two miles back to the other one, and then run back and try again was ridiculous. And the eating thing? That was disgusting. I personally would rather eat a little nasty food like on the Ruins than pounds and pounds of semi-ok food until I vomit. I thought the kayaking and running was fine, but the obstacles were kind of stupid. It was just too much. I think more obstacles and things that require actual intellect on top of the physical running and carrying the ball and chain would be better.
Cara said that the food was DELICIOUS on her formspring. And Laurel on Derrick's Podcast said that she heard the ruins final was easy, just the guys were more scared of susie and her ability and what she wants to do (throw it/win)

And I'd rather hear about The Ruins final from someone who was actually IN it. And I wonder who told her it was easy, considering the fact that the Champions were behind until the puzzle...
Yeah, I was saying this as I was watching them stop at the rocks. To lose the lead they had in reaching the rocks, (not sure how many minutes) pretty much made busting your a** on day 1 irrelevant. Sure, they got a 2 minute lead, but what about the lead they had at the end of day 1? Why do they lose that? That was definitely a screw up by MTV.
Totally illegitimate/undeserved win...just to keep things close and frantic at the end. As I was watching I assumed they'd get a start equal to what their finish lead was...but no, that would be fair. The GPS thing was nearly a **** shoot, and a 10 minute penalty would have been death for any team. Ultimately though the show is designed for entertainment, not fairness - advantages given to pregame alliances, teams with no chance (Johanna+Jasmine lol), and eliminations where one team has no chance (Again, Laurel+Cara Maria vs. Johanna+Jasmine), etc.
I always knew Kenny was a great player as far as his ability to perform in a final challenge, but last night he really, really, really impressed me. All the other guys had some moment where they looked weak and vulnerable but he beasted through that whole thing pretty easily if you ask me.
I now think as a mental image Kenny carrying Wes up a hill after a day of hard effort might trump CT carrying Johnny on his back to the barrel.
I can't see how one could make such a comparison given that CT's carrying of Johnny was iconic, while the reality (all editing BS aside) is that Kenny carried Wes for a very short distance and very brief time.
CT's carrying of Johnny was a very short distance and very short time-wise aswell ;)
I think the Johnny thing was 30 seconds and CT did it because he had to, Kenny did it because he's an idiot, like yeah it looks cool but seriously? It's not like he could carry him for that long and if I was Wes I'd be like **** you you're not picking me up lol but he said he agreed so Kenny would shut up and he could catch his breath. Kenny tired himself out like just wait 10 seconds for his leg to relax, Johnny was cramping a bit too but Tyler just waited and didnt try to pick him up.
I now think as a mental image Kenny carrying Wes up a hill after a day of hard effort might trump CT carrying Johnny on his back to the barrel.
What? Wes willingly allowed Kenny to carry him, because they were working together. Johnny was being carried against his will by CT, and they were going against each other. Wes being carried doesnt come close to trumping Johnny being man handled.
CT's carrying of Johnny was a very short distance and very short time-wise aswell ;)
Captain Obvious! LOL Of course it was; but, what would you have him do for you, stand there for 2 minutes to make it longer than Kenny carried Wes?

Looking at how Wes was sitting there I doubt they would've continued walking after 10 seconds. And they had to keep the lead they had on johnny/tyler, it was a desperate decision.

And was it a leg cramp or did he pull a muscle, not sure if there's a difference? Sometimes I pull a muscle when I run without stretching and it hurts like a ***** but it goes away within a few seconds and you're supposed to rub it, lol Wes just sat there and screamed.
I really wish Wes didn't let Kenny carry him. He'll never hear the end of it now, and it was basically pointless. They would have only had a 2 minute lead on Johnny and Tyler regardless of how far ahead of them of them they were on the first day. Not to take anything away from Kenny, because carrying the rock and a 180 pound man while hiking up a mountain in the midst of a grueling Final is very impressive, no matter how long it was.

Really dont see the point of the 2nd day. Maybe they needed it because without it they couldn't include the standing on the rock part.
Just saw the finale online and one thing I don't get is what's with that whole 2 minute start thing? They did ALL OF THAT just for a ******* 2 minute head start? That's pointless as ****. LOL @ Jenn DQing serves her *** right for being a ***** all season long. John and Tyler winning=Yawn I really wish Leroy and Mike won. Paula and Ev winning=YAY! Now Paula can get the **** off my T.V although I have this bad feeling that she will be on the next Challenge. Wes and Kenny-Meh glad they lost, don't really care about Wes getting carried.
Alright let's be real. CT backpacking Johnny and Kenny carrying Wes aren't comparable. CT could put Kenny, Wes, and Johnny on his shoulders and carry them.
Really glad for Ev and Paula, hopefully that is the last we see of Paula. Cara & Laurel grew on me, at least they get some cash. So glad Wes/Kenny lost, they were ****** throughout the whole challenge and work terrible together. Not that I like Johnny that much, but he worked really well with Tyler and deserved the win more.
Kenny carried Wes strictly for the bragging rights. He thought it would look cool on TV. It just made them both look kinda stupid.
Kenny carried Wes strictly for the bragging rights. He thought it would look cool on TV. It just made them both look kinda stupid.
It Sure did. It really really did.
