Yes, and they were ****. The book ****s all over the first movie.
LOL, not really. the movie was actually pretty good. The book I haven't read since 1999/2002-ish.
So I saw the movie, and I thought it was a pretty close representation of the book.
Positives:
- Excellent cast overall. Jennifer Lawrence is really good at portraying Katniss as a character who doesn’t like to show emotion and Amandla Stenberg (Rue) is absolutely adorable. Dayo Okeniyi (Thresh) is hot.
- I like that they the scenes between the Head Gamemaker and President Snow, and how you could see that the Head Gamemaker had an internal conflict
Negatives:
- Like everyone said, the camera was way too shaky; it gave me a headache, and I had to look away at times
- Too little character development.
- Josh Hutcherson’s one of my favorite actors, but I don’t think he was right for the character of Peeta
Final rating: 7 (would've been an 8.5 if it wasn’t for the shakiness)
Also, I wanted to see what everyone else thought of the movie, and I found this.
Any adaptation from book to movie is bound to rile up fans. The casting of black actors in "The Hunger Games" has spurred some negative tweets -- even though at least two are true to Suzanne Collins's 2008 book.
The frenzy has focused on three characters in particular: Rue (Amandla Sternberg) and Thresh (Dayo Okeniyi), the child tributes from District 11, as well as Cinna (Lenny Kravitz), the stylist assigned to Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), the movie's archer-heroine. In a curious twist of reading comprehension failure and racism, a few tweets have made the public rounds:
Mind you, it specifically says in the book that Rue and Thresh have dark skin and eyes (as well as most District 11 inhabitants). And it just says that Cinna has green eyes and brown curls, ergo he could always be mixed.
Anyway, just wanted to share...

I thought it was great - true to the book, LOVED the shaky cam - it gave the film a raw edge. I like how it wasn't entirely overproduced like most blockbusters were. Jennifer Lawrence was amazing. I wrote additional thoughts about it here.
Good stuff. Can't wait for the next 2 movies. Hope they don't pull that Part 1 and Part 2 bull**** on the last one though. I hate that.

Thresh is alright but not as hot as everyone has recently been saying he is. I love his character though. I hate the racists about Amandla and Lenny though. Also just because it says dark skin doesn't always mean black. It could be fair, tan, etc. But since it was 2008 maybe they were black.
I also hate how SC is saying her **** is original though when it exactly is not. Going to see it tomorrow if I don't see/read it on Wikipedia first, ****.

Sorry but rumor has it they are splitting it into 2 parts but this is more reasonable and not garbage like Breaking Dawn/HP 7.

I guess Thresh and Rue not being black could have been a possibility... but I definitely think Collins' figure of speech implied that they were. When I read the book it never even crossed my mind that District 11 wasn't a mostly black. "Darker-skinned" white people would be referred to as olive-skinned, like the people from District 12. I know that, personally, I'd never describe a non-black or non-mixed person as being dark-skinned, that's for sure.
Maybe I'm missing something. What do you mean "since it was 2008"?
Yeah... don't read it on Wikipedia, I think you should go see it! It was worth it, even if the way they filmed it was annoying LOL.

I meant since it was written in 2008 not take place in 2008. I mean that would welcome to many retcons, lol.
And yeah I'm getting dressed now so I can see the first showing if you couldn't tell already I'm very impatient but leaving early for my movies that I HAVE to see is quite normal.
EDIT as of 3/31, I'm at the theater now and left the room to write this edit. Anyway, I love me some Primrose. She acted just as good as Dayo/Jennifer/Naomi/Stanley/Lenny. I just hope this isn't one of those movies where the characters we know fight all the series and then at the end of the last one a relative takes the place. In other words, I bet Primrose takes over for sister at the end of Mockinjay. Well, maybe not completely.
Wow, the games don't start until like an hour into the movie but I'm liking this where it's going. Good Movie. Can't wait for part 2 though it's no Battle Royale, much tamer.
I'm finally reading the books. I waited until I finished the first to see the movie. In all, I loved it. There were a few minor differences that really bothered me. They weren't things that stood out to most people. I think I'm just so invested in these characters that the minor things bother me more.
Either way, the movie was amazing. I just started reading Mockingjay. I can't wait to see what happens next.
PS. I agree. These books are much better than Twilight.

If I had money I'd totally turn it into a theme resort. If they have Harry Potter-land this **** could be successful.
While reading the book, I pictured Rue to be mixed Philipino/Spanish. Most filipinos I know are dark for Asians. And I mean Spanish like from Spain... But I guess Black makes more sense, I have no problem with that. She was one of my favorite characters so I can't wait to see Amandla take on the role.
I read the first book yesterday at the nagging of a number of people. I enjoyed it...but as someone who grew up with Harry Potter...it was no Harry Potter.
I was guilty of writing it off as not being meant for guys and that definitely wasn't the case. I plan on reading the next one, but I'm in no rush to do so.
I can't read books and watch the movies. I have to pick one or the other (mostly the movie). Sci-fi is always better on screen IMO.
I have never come across a movie that is better than the book.

Clearly you have not read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, but only seen the movie.

But to be honest Harry Potter is garbage compared to this real talk

So what if she's black. It reminds of that twitter wars from weeks ago complaining about rue and cinna.

I wouldn't know from first hand experience, but I've heard that the Lord of the Rings books are quite long and boring. However, I have only known 1 person to attempt the books. I have a self proclaimed phobia of books over 1000 pages.

You clearly didnt read my post thoroughly. I was responding to others' outrage that she was black, I have no problem with it. In fact, I stated that that made more sense after I saw the actress who plays her. While reading the book, I just got more a filipino/spanish vibe from her, but I am looking forward to seeing Amandla's take on Rue. Im sure it will be interesting. And in regards to the Twitter war, Most of the people that were involved in that were most likely uneducated teenage girls that probably just wanted to be a part of some drama.

I wasn't coming at you, and I did read it thank you very much. I was just putting in my two cents on what those others are doing as ****. No offense to you.

I really don't think I really need one but I know from experience and watching various book to movies that it has happened before. *insert random sad smiley*
I think the only exception for me would be "The Shawshank Redemption". As much as I love Stephen King, and as many books of him that have been turned into garbage movies, but in this case I really would say that the movie is superior. But even that is open to debate, certainly. Otherwise, I have never come across a movie-is-better-than-book either.

1. Don't get me wrong, The hunger games is great, but to say that in comparison Harry Potter is WAYYYYY WAY TOOOOO much of an over statement. Harry potter is not trash compared to anything, obviously you have not read the books so don't judge something you don't know.
2. I don't think a movie has ever completely lived up to the book for me, but this one has come very close to it.

It's strange, I've been getting drastic mixed reviews.... My friend who never read the book (and her boyfriend) went to see it and absolutely loved it... so much so that they want to read the book badly.
However, another friend of mine said he thought it was just "okay." But still, I'm happy for it's success.
I don't exactly think the movie lived up to the book, but perhaps it was all the hype (in my mind) and the fact that I had very high expectations for it, so maybe, I will try to re-watch the film with a more neutral mind.
I think it was hype as well but in good taste though. However I'm reversed, I bought the book way before the movie opened but as it got closer to the release date I went and got Catching Fire.
