The Challenge: Battle of the Seasons - The Perks of Being a Rookie

Painful to watch this season thus far for me. Too many players, many of which the audience isn't familiar with, too many storylines going on (hand in hand with the previous comment), and it's still a heavily athletic based competition (wrestling?) despite the rumor of that aspect being toned down. I'm all for bringing in new players and seeing new castmembers win, but I'd prefer to have seen the producers take a different approach. Just let these new seasons duke it out with a format that had a narrower scope. They don't have to eliminate someone each episode, let a storyline build and get to know these characters better. They'll flash an interview/comment/diary room from someone and I'll be like "Oh yeah, they're on the show..haven't seen them in today's 'challenge', but whatever".
Why didn't they just say if we suspect you're throwing the heat you both are DQ'd and the next 2 matchups are chosen at random? Or let TJ pick the matchups he wants to see. I can't believe they messed up that challenge so bad that it should have been the best 1 in a while and we would have gotten to see what the new kids could do.
I am actually really enjoying this season so far (with the exception of the lame mission) I actually really like Trey eventhough he likes to bad mouth us. They really are setting it up perfectly for new school vs old school and I can't wait!!
Yeah I was watching with two people - one is his second season of watching and the other guy, it was his first challenge season and he said in the middle during the challenge today that they shouldn't have made it so easy for everyone to cheat, because it's not fun to watch. I'm really excited for this season, I like the season so far but...I'm a really avid fan. If he was watching by himself he probably would have changed the channel. So they should have stepped in and done something about the rules. This episode was really boring, and it could have been really good, that's why I'm so bummed about it. This challenge had so much potential to it and it got wasted.

But I won't complain that much because at least they got a different cast than usual.
I would love to see what Danny and Melinda do to prepare for Challenges because it clearly is not working. Eric will forever be a waste in my eyes. SD2 are insuffarable people and what makes it worse is Cancun and NOLA are to stuck up their *** to even realize it. I respect Trey but this isn't a Duel buddy, sometimes you gotta fake it till you make it. Brooklyn is the team I'm going to root for because they all seem level headed in this Challenge. CM is flawless this time around, She grows on me every other challenge (Cutthroat and Rivals were the only time I liked her.) I am really disappointed in Cancun, Vegas and NOLA.
I really disappointed in Cancun,Vegas and NOLA.
Just curious as to why you are disappointed in those 3 teams.
Just curious as to why you are disappointed in those 3 teams.
They all basically handed themselves to SD with no questions.
Yes but isn't that the smart thing? You are guaranteed not to go in plus you don't **** anyone off. If anything it shows a sense of strategy and brains.
Wow, reading this thread before watching the show, you would think this was THE WORST EPISODE EVER!! Much to my surprise, it wasn't. In fact, I actually liked it. Don't get me wrong, im no fan of Frank lately. But you can't blame him for actually forming an alliance and using the rules of the challenge to his/their advantage. It was flawless. Would it have been better if the rules were different? Sure, but I actually was pretty amused at how it played out. Watching two alliances trying to out think each other was fun IMO. I liked Camila not giving a **** about what Frank had to say. Big props to Trey too for going in three "non thrown" rounds, and winning all three. Judging from Frank, Jasmine and Zach's Twitter, you would think Trey was some evil mastermind who was backstabbing all the rookies. But that seems to not be the case. At least not yet, he just seems a little politically ********. He actually made me like him a little last night. The fresh meat team really are a cluster****. I understand where Brandon/Camila are coming from, but like Eric said, there's only 4 people on your team. You can't play the "ive done my time" with only 4 people. But props to Eric for his second win. Im not really a fan of his either, but I still give respect. I liked seeing all the different relationships in the house. Jemmye/Knight, Danny/Melinda, Zach/Jonna, Trey/Laura(even if she was a lil creepy). All in all, I liked the episode. My only grip was Frank's "I run this game" confessionals. I like that he knows what he's doing, but he's acting as if he's against the best of the best.

I was expecting a lot worse behavior from Camila and Trey based of twitter.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the fact that we have new faces, and that's what I wanted, but I didn't realize how annoying Frank is!! I didn't watch his season, and I saw the first 2 episodes and stop watching cause of Ashley & Zach, but omg didn't lnow Frank was this annoying! Ashley is finally coming across as a nice girl, but Zach so far is just there, and so is Sam.

But the 2nd alliance didnt get a chance to outsmart the first alliance becuase they didn't get to compete, so how is that fun to watch? 2.) Trey didn't win all 3, he tied with Danny. And you know what they say about ties? It's like kissing your sister (or brother depending on the sex). 3.)In my opinion Trey is dumb as hell. He needs to listen to Marie. This isn't a game of who has the biggest ****, they are rookies and could be in the rookie alliance if Trey would quit being a baby.
You guys complain about any and everything. This was a refreshing episode compared to the past 3 seasons. Everyone asked for a challenge full of rookies & now that they're there you all are complaining. Alton isn't a rookie & even he is smart enough to join the numbers. The whole throwing the challenge thing would have been better if one of the outside teams started *****ing about it.. Marie beating Cara Maria >>>>>

You want me to describe to you how it was fun to watch FOR ME? Its called my opinion. Yes, I know they didn't get a chance, but it was fun FOR me watching them TRY to get in control when it was Las Vegas left, and then St Thomas 2.) Ok, so he won two, and went to the max time limit on the third. The dude still put in work. Your point? 3.) Yea...as if 5 whole teams are all going to the final. I DID SAY, he's seemed a little politically challenged, and yea he probaly should've listened to Marie. But I don't think he's "dumb as hell". I was just expecting something MAJOR the way he gets bashed by the others on Twitter, and so far I don't see anything of the sort. This is just MY opinion though.

Yes it's a little annoying that FRANK of all people is suppose the be the "breakout rookie" but whatever. I still enjoy seeing everyone else and all the interactions. Especially since a lot of these people have pasts with each other. If it wasn't for this challenge we probaly would've never got to see Devyn/JD/Derek/Lacey again(this is just me speculating).

If anything this challenge is a good way to see how good these rookies really are. Usually they are gone episode 1 or 2 so we never really get to see how they are ability wise besides losing right away in elimination. So now the ones that are good we will see in next challenge when the vets are back how they compare to this and that one. Obviously by comparison to other challenges, this one is the most up for grabs winnable for any team. So it wouldn't be as much of a quality win as lets say winning rivals but the check would look the same to me and all you can do is beat who you are put against. Not their fault. I find it odd Brandon doesn't seem to want to be there at all. He thinks he has earned the right to get a free ride without facing elimination, that is a bit weird. He really hasn't proven a whole lot. He said he has been in them and doesn't like them. HOw does he expect to win then? Seems like he just came to get paid for going or he truly believes his team stinks and will lose anyway.
Gahhh I just decided to take a peek at Frank's Twitter, and one of his backgrounds is all about his fame and swag...are you kidding me? This dude needs a reality check. Also...just in reading his feed, he's a serious *******. I mean, who could possibly like this guy? He's dogging on Sam big time, and as far as I can see she didn't do anything to deserve it. WTF is his problem? Pretty rich watching a guy who was all about tolerance on his season, and completely flipped out if anyone was mean to him, be the biggest bully on the Challenge. What a ******.
This challenge just goes to show that you can't win when it comes to vevmo. Complain, complain, complain and then MTV gives you what you want and you still complain. It is what it is. Now on to the episode.. First of all..rookie revloution? LOLOLOLOL. If course its rookie revolution with you have worthless vets like Danny, Melinda, and Lacey (no offense to her). He has no real competition. I mean let's be real. If there were, Frank would barely be on the show. I have no problem with rookies winning and doing well but "Rookie Revolution" is a joke. Its basically an all rookie challenge and the most of the vets seemed to have already sold their souls to San Diego. Why, I have no clue. I didn't mind Frank but he lost me as soon as he said Rookie Revolution. I literally sat and stared at the TV for like five minutes. And then when he started picking on St. Thomas (And I don't care for them at all) he completely lost me.
Exactly. I too thought it was refreshing. Yes it's a little annoying that FRANK of all people is suppose the be the "breakout rookie" but whatever. I love Eric is redeeming himself as well.
Trey is too hard-headed. Listen to Marie, she’s the only one on your team who knows what she’s doing. I agree with everyone, the mission was very frustrating and the execution displayed very poor sportsmanship. Everyone in production is a moron for making it so easy to rig. Oh, so now Robb realizes that they should’ve picked a side? Haha when TJ said “congratulations San Diego”, a bunch of people didn’t even clap. Frank takes himself way too seriously. But let’s be honest: he’s a smart player. Oh my God, Trey, shut the **** up! You see “bull****” coming out of Zach and Frank’s mouths, but you couldn’t see it coming out of Wes and Danny’s…? Yeah, you’re real smart. I love Jemmye for sticking to her guns. It’s nice to see a strong woman who won’t let a guy walk all over her, for once on this show. Cara Maria: “I’m not really good with balls”, really? You could tell that she thought about it and obviously knew how that was gonna sound. Ugh.
For real. Does he even have fans?
Probably going to get **** for this, but it is how I feel so here it goes... Frank- I was a loose watcher of San Diego 2 because there was not a lot of FRank that I could stand. I found him to be obnoxious and irritating to say it nicely. However, after listening to him on after buzz podcasts, I tried to go into this season and give him another shot... I am shocked to say that I do not mind him yet! I am not fully team Frank, but I think that he is growing on me... signed, his only "semi" fan :ninja_hide:
I think that most of us like that they've brought in new blood; we just don't like how unbalanced it is. I think we all like to see standout rookies come in and shake things up, but these guys are having the challenged handed to them. Fresh Meat is the only true vet team and they're stuck with Big E (I respect what he's done, but he's not in the shape he should be for these challenges). I wish they had chosen different players for Fresh Meat and had an additional "vet" team to replace St. Thomas, who shouldn't be there yet. If they were going to have this many rookies, they should have just had a rookie challenge. Of course, that may not have been great for ratings. Episode-wise... It definitely wasn't cool of Brandon and Camilla to not volunteer themselves. Brandon's reasoning for not going into the arena was totally lame. Frank is delusional. While I think Wes plays an exaggerated character of himself for these challenges, Frank actually believes the self-important crap he spews. He's intolerable. I loved how he called Trey an egomaniac and said that Camilla was loud and an attention seeker (or something similar). Pot meet Kettle. I just hope that Frank doesn't turn me off of The Challenge as he did RW: San Diego.

Marie beating Cara Maria >>>>>
People are not complaining about the fact there are so many rookies. It's the fact they are running the show without earning their spot. The blatant throwing of the competition was just disgusting to watch especially having to go through so many rounds. I can't imagine being TJ and just watching this mockery live. At least in the past three seasons, all the teams would compete to their fullest and not just roll over each other. I hope the next episodes challenge is a lot more competitive.
signed, his only "semi" fan :ninja_hide:
You're not the only one. I just think his personality is something new. When you watches the show, you think he's a total dbag, but when you listen to him and watch how he talks to his friends outside the show. He has this nice attitude and sometimes he is funny. I think, he can be somebody to hang out with.
Frank makes me rethink my hatred for JEK...
I agree 100%. I absolutely despise Frank. I don't really like Zach either. I can't wait for the Dustin and Frank fight they showed on the trailer.
I agree 100%. I absolutely despise Frank. I don't really like Zach either. I can't wait for the Dustin and Frank fight they showed on the trailer.
I forget if on the trailer Zach interferes and puts his hand on Dustin's head. Did you see that or am I mistaken?
Prepare yourselves...I got a LOT to say. I agree that the main challenge was ******* AWFUL. That really should've been a tournament. San Diego is starting to **** me off a bit. How the hell was Trey being a egomaniac? All he was saying was that almost everyone on that challenge is in the same boat. So where the hell do they get off acting like *****? That's not being an egomaniac it's telling the damn truth...I kinda felt bad for Trey..But I do think he should listen to Marie. It's obvious that eveyone else is playing the game...they should start doing the same. That elimination was not endurance at all....Who the hell designs these challenges? Knight and Jemmye..I think they're done. Melinda was right. No point in arguing. Figure out what you want to do and then do it. Brandon's argument for not going in The Arena was just dumb. Look the hell around dude. There's only FOUR of you. This "paid my dues" BS isn't going to fly. Just say you don't want to go in. Overall this was an okay episode. I feel like if The Challenge wasn't stupidly done, The alliances being a little more interesting, and the edurance elimination acutally being ENDURANCE I think this would've been better.
