The Challenge: Battle of the Seasons - The Perks of Being a Rookie
People are not complaining about the fact there are so many rookies. It's the fact they are running the show without earning their spot. The blatant throwing of the competition was just disgusting to watch especially having to go through so many rounds. I can't imagine being TJ and just watching this mockery live. At least in the past three seasons, all the teams would compete to their fullest and not just roll over each other. I hope the next episodes challenge is a lot more competitive.
(I get your point, I'm not disagreeing) I'm just over the complaining about throwing the mission. After watching again I found it quite interesting - a wasted competition but interesting to see them fight strategically. They realized that the producers ****ed up big time and took advantage of it, what else were they suppose to do? If JKE were the majority they would do the same if the rules were just like this particular mission and the rookies would stand no chance, we've seen it before too. Same ****, different people. The only thing that was bothersome was the fact that they could have edited out Frank saying he's running the show and just showed the follow up statement he made about who's in his alliance.
Frank made a lot of good points on yesterday's episode of the challenge about the vets squashing the rookies in past challenges.
I forget if on the trailer Zach interferes and puts his hand on Dustin's head. Did you see that or am I mistaken?
I saw Zach and Alton fighting on the trailer. I bet Alton was just sticking up for Dustin and Zach was sticking up for Frank. On a side note, how in the world did Frank even get a bunch of people on his side? Didn't he tick everyone in the house off on the first night when he got wasted and almost got into several fights? Why are people even listening to him?

Frank isn't "running this game" because he is some political mastermind or likable... he is able to get people to align with them because people know he has an athletic team. If he had a team of misfits no one would be following anything he was saying, despite how smart he thinks he is...
Did anyone catch the new sneak peek for next week?
Guys, if you want to ***** about casting, or people who aren't on this challenge, or what production should've/could've done, do it in the open challenge thread. Enough of polluting threads with comments that have absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand. From here on out, any post in any Battle of the Seasons thread containing "JEK", "Johnny", "Kenny", "Evan", or anyone NOT ON THIS CHALLENGE will be moved to the open thread, and you'll be getting an infraction.
This week in reality TV we saw kind of sexy, mostly disgusting oil wrestling; a hilarious removal of an oil painting, and a budding affair on Survivor that is rooted in a shared love of snuggling and lack of self-awareness. But before we get to all that, this week, several members on The Challenge had the nerve to disrespect the competitive integrity of America's fifth major sport by throwing challenges, and as you can imagine, this didn't sit well with T.J. Lavin. Camila (Battle of the Seasons, House), 50 points: Over the course of his BMX career, T.J. Lavin has broken nearly every bone in his body, been in a coma, and nearly died. When a man like this -- a man that has sacrificed his body and almost his life -- is put in charge of a reality TV show competition, he expects a certain level of effort. This week T.J. was tasked with managing an oil wresting tournament on the beaches of Turkey -- and you knew something was awry when Alton lost. First off, Alton is the greatest athlete that the human species has ever created. Second, Alton lost to Preston; Preston is like Rajon Rondo mixed with Prince mixed with Tek from Real World: Hawaii mixed with a stork. He has no business beating Alton at oil wrestling. Like I said, something was awry. T.J. saw this breakdown in competitive integrity before him and was so disgusted he couldn't even muster up one of his patented "I hate quitters" speeches. Instead, he just solemnly watched, shook his head, and blew his air horn to mark the end of each thrown match. Never has an air horn been blown with less enthusiasm. When Camila and Devyn walked into the oil pit and didn't even fake an effort, T.J. had had enough. Instead of the passive-aggressive guilting that T.J. usually doles out to quitters, T.J. looked both Camila and Devyn in the eye and unleashed the following tirade: "BLEEPing BLEEP BLEEP, you BLEEPing BLEEPs!" (35 points.) If I am not mistaken, this is the second time that T.J. has gone in on Camila for quitting in a challenge. It is a shame that the same Camila that had enough fight in her to argue with Frank (5 points) didn't have enough fight in her to satisfy T.J. Justly, she was thrown into the elimination challenge. Unjustly, she won (10 points). The whole time she was throwing challenges I couldn't help but think, Johnny Bananas would have never let this happen. WHERE IS JOHNNY BANANAS!? Devyn (Battle of the Seasons, ??), 35 points: I have watched every single episode of every single season of Real World. I have no idea who this Devyn chick that T.J. yelled at (35 points) is. None. She wasn't even drafted in our draft. I think she doesn't exist. I think she is a Tyler Durden-like figment of my imagination. Wait, that can't be true -- if she were a figment of my imagination I would have imagined her hotter and with a better weave. Trey (Battle of the Seasons, Connor), 20 points: What is it about the cast of Real World: St. Thomas that annoys me so much? Is it the fact that their season was so boring? That I haven't been given any time off from them to miss them? Or that they have terrible tattoos? Probably a combination of all three. But according to Trey, I am not alone. Trey had an off-brand teary emotional breakdown this week (20 points), exclaiming, "The people that are here don't talk to me. They don't trust me and they don't like me. It is very clear that we are next on the chopping block. Maybe I brought it on myself, I don't know, but they can paint me as a villain, it's fine, but I know how I am and it's really really hard." I know who you are, too, Trey. You're the dude that cheated on his (probably) pregnant girlfriend back home on national television. That is who you are. Easy (Battle of the Seasons, Kang), 10 points: Big Easy won his second straight challenge (10 points), and heading into it announced he was going to win because "I'm not a *****." I wish just once that LeBron would open up pregame interviews like that. "Hey, LeBron, why do you think the Heat will repeat as NBA champions?" "Because we're not *****es." Frank (Battle of the Season, Simmons), 10 points: Sure, Frank got into a fight with Camila because she was cheering on her teammates too loudly and and yelled at her, "Stop, they can hear you, stop!" (5 points.) Sure, Frank announced his control of the game, "Let's be real, I'm gonna run this show" (5 points). But how the **** did Frank not get slammered this entire episode? I mean, there is no way that Frank goes three days without getting slammered. They must have edited it out. Nothing else makes sense. Knight and Jemmye (Battle of the Seasons, Lisanti and Jacoby), 5 points: Knight and Jemmye had one of the more twisted and entertaining relationships in Real World history. OK, fine, more like Top 50, whatever, but it even involved a classic episode with Knight getting flirty with Jemmye's mom. It was fantastic. Knight's attempt to rekindle this relationship did not go well (5 points): Knight: "I miss my best friend, I miss the girl I love ... " Jemmye: "You [bleep]ed up, it wasn't me ... " Knight: "I know that, but how long are you going to tell me I [bleep]ed up for?" Jemmye: "What you do can affect you the rest of your life." Nobody knows that "what you do can affect you for the rest of your life" better than someone with a gigantic ****** tattoo.
via
I don't see much reason to believe that Frank is a big shot-caller in the Challenge, other than him claiming to be in a confessional. The show is full of people claiming to have more relevance than they actually do. He seems to be the most vocal, but I don't really believe that the rest of the alliance sat back and let Frank unilaterally decide who to put in the elimination round, after handing SD the win. Zach seemed oddly neutered in the little scene where he tried to walk away from the group conversation with Trey, and was told to "sit his *** down" by Frank and Ashley. I expected him to have a bigger presence than he has thus far.
my thoughts as I watched the episode: • Frank vs. Camila was hilarious • I was okay with them throwing the challenge because I like watching alliances work together for some reason • It was fun to see the vets scramble together (and I like the idea of a Gauntlet 4 in the future) • Trey’s an idiot – and I totally agree with Marie (who showed she was there to compete) – he’s also a little ***** • I like San Diego except for Frank – so having him be his team’s leader was kind of obnoxious. • I for some reason really enjoy Jonna as a challenge vet/queen (like Veronica or Coral) that knows how to run the game. • I like that they can go out of the house – I remember for a while (I think up until Cutthroat) they were stuck in the house • I really enjoy the Knight/Jemmye subplot – and LOVE Melinda shedding light on the situation • Danny didn’t look like he cared as much as Melinda did haha • I like Melinda so I wish she would have stayed around longer. I felt so sad when she said “they won” at the end of the elimination round • I like Eric, I don’t know who agrees with me (and his line “I don’t give a *****, how about that?”) • Cara Maria’s jersey got fixed • Next week: Camila has a breakdown that can rival the Habanero Meltdown
• Next week: Camila has a breakdown that can rival the Habanero Meltdown
Nothing will ever rival the Habanero Howler.
my thoughts as I watched the episode: • I for some reason really enjoy Jonna as a challenge vet/queen (like Veronica or Coral) that knows how to run the game.
That's a great point. She does have a bit of Coral/Veronica to her. She's definitely not someone that will allow the "game" to play her.
That's a great point. She does have a bit of Coral/Veronica to her. She's definitely not someone that will allow the "game" to play her.
I noticed this about her too last week, and was very happy with it. I LOVE Jonna! She was running Endurance back when Coral/Veronica were running BOTSexes2 and the like
I noticed this about her too last week, and was very happy with it. I LOVE Jonna! She was running Endurance back when Coral/Veronica were running BOTSexes2 and the like
Yep she sure was, her and her partner kicked *** and took names on her season. Couple more things..I watched the episode again and I gotta say the Dustin/Zach wrestling was kinda hot. Trey and Danny matchup was too. They should do more challenges like this.
Nothing will ever rival the Habanero Howler.
I guess that's true - I mean, that's probably the primary reason Camila was asked to do the challenges. I also enjoy the term "Habanero Howler."
I love Jonna on challenges but please don't compare her to Coral or Veronica. Not even close. I could see someone like Marie eventually being like Coral/ Veronica, maybe.
I love Jonna on challenges but please don't compare her to Coral or Veronica. Not even close. I could see someone like Marie eventually being like Coral/ Veronica, maybe.
Jonna's far closer than Marie to that level at least at this point. Jonna works the game at all times. Marie may be able to do that but hasn't shown that thus far. Maybe that falls on her teammates but Jonna's running Cancun. I have no idea who's running St Thomas. None of them seem to be able to take control. Adding: Jonna may be running 4 teams right now. I'm sure someone on Vegas will end that at some point but she, not Frank, is the person in charge through 2 episodes.
Wow the opening credits are getting worse and worse. Last good one was D2.
I really don't see Frank running the rookies, he has a hard enough time controlling himself. I feel like its a person from Vegas -Trischelle, Cancun-CJ and Jonna, SD-Zach or Frank, Nola - Knight and Jemmye. Meaning it's a group decision - sorry new to this, but love the show
Wow the opening credits are getting worse and worse. Last good one was D2.
Really? I actually love the opening credits this season. I thought they were very well put together and I like how they used each season's original "quote" in the background. My favorite in awhile. Just my opinion though :victory: I'll join the train of "what a ****ty challenge format" and "Jonna is kicking *** and I love her". That could've been such a great challenge had there been more in-depth rules. I'm all for team Cancun-San Diego, and New Orleans is definitely growing on me thanks to Knight and Jemmye. And in two episodes, I have grown to like Danny a lot. I have always disliked him and his attitude that he was an amazing competitor, but I thought this challenge showed a different side of him. Really wish he and Melinda stayed longer.
Wow the opening credits are getting worse and worse. Last good one was D2.
You mean the Duel 2? That Intro was terrible. easily the worst in the history in this show. This one was the best they've had in years...and I liked that they used each season's original quote...really nice touch. And did anyone notice that Dustin was rubbing on Alton's chest in the intro? That one made me LOL.

Didn't say she was right now. I don't think Jonna is running anything, she is hooking up with Zach who is on the winning team. She is good in challenges but does that mean she's running things? No. I don't think you can compare anyone on this challenge to Coral or Veronica. I like the fresh faces but they will never be the veterans we want them to be. Completely different people, different challenge era imo.
I thought the intro was pretty good, I like how they used the sound clips from their original season. Minus Fresh Meat, because they didn't have one. That was just an awkward clip of them saying "FRESH MEAT GRRRRR" or something like that.
I also liked the intro. I definitely liked the intro clips from the original season. LOL at Fresh Meat not having past sound clips.
I have no problem with rookies winning and doing well but "Rookie Revolution" is a joke. Its basically an all rookie challenge and the most of the vets seemed to have already sold their souls to San Diego. Why, I have no clue. I didn't mind Frank but he lost me as soon as he said Rookie Revolution. I literally sat and stared at the TV for like five minutes. And then when he started picking on St. Thomas (And I don't care for them at all) he completely lost me.
Seriously. You're not really amazing because most of the people/teams are rookies. And LOL at Frank, from the season before St. Thomas, acting like he's been around so much longer than them. Beyond St. Thomas having not aired before this season, Frank was practically in the same boat, seeing as he and his season hadn't done a challenge before. A few of these rookies already sound entitled, which is interesting since they are new or practically new. This challenge is just kind of a fresh start. It's time to create new challenge "stars." Yes, it is better to usher them in on a challenge that has a lot of known people (i.e. BOTS2 & G2), but at the point the challenges got with some of the constant returnees for the past five or six years, I don't mind seeing all these new people - especially in a "team of your season" format. Plus having a couple of past vets who hadn't been on in years was kind of fresh, too. Yes, they are vets, but they come from a different era, and they've been out of it for so many years and only did a challenge with each other and one other person (Alton with Danny). So they weren't in the position to really come in and start running things. Maybe Alton could have tried to rally people up because strong performing vet guys tend to be respected, but still, not knowing these people would not have made it the easiest thing. Plus he hasn't been so much a big alliance guy. I just hope they start spreading around the screen time to some other people. Obviously, love him or hate him, Frank is a conversation piece and is a new star. If he continues to speak so arrogantly during his interviews, I'll suspect he will have a fall at some point. Or, at least, have a big opposition. Zach and Trey have been highlighted, too. Jonna. I suspect these people will keep getting some screen time, as they should if they are major players in this season. But hopefully some of those other people that some of us don't know from the last few seasons (since we didn't watch) will get a little bit of screen time. Just use them in a interview so we at least get to see them. Like old times - someone may not have done much of anything to get attention, but they would at least show them here and there in an interview or explaining the rules (even though the rules thing was redundant). I don't know if the challenges will be renewed after this season, but it does feel like a rebuilding season, and if the challenges get another season, I think the key people on this one will be invited back, and the show will feel a little refreshed overall. OMG, I've seen two different previews for this next episode now! I'm surprised. Actual effort.
I said I could eventually see Marie being a female Coral. Didn't say she was right now. No. I don't think you can compare anyone on this challenge to Coral or Veronica. I like the fresh faces but they will never be the veterans we want them to be. Completely different people, different challenge era imo.
I'm sorry I started this argument. I guess I could have been a bit clearer on my thought regarding Jonna. Those bullets points were literally thoughts going through my head as I was watching the episode. I meant that I got a vibe from Jonna that she was developing into a challenge queen/vet like Coral or Veronica. I didn't mean that I felt she was currently one. This is her second challenge, after all. I liked the idea that she would develop into someone who was in the inner circle and would make game-changing calls. She definitely gave me that vibe last week. In the first episode, she was kind of taking control of the Frank/Zach/Sam meltdown - like when she said "Sam, don't say that. Stop it" or whatever it was. But she clearly had some type of a handle on that situation. When Cancun made the decision to throw Austin into elimination, I know it was mainly the bad blood between CJ and Wes that factored into that choice, but I still get this idea that Jonna is pulling some strings behind the curtain. On episode 2 we saw her helping with decision making and it's pretty apparent San Diego and Cancun will be the dominant alliance this season. So once again, I apologize for igniting the argument about Jonna being like Coral and Veronica. Hopefully that made it a little more clear. I will say that I haven't gotten that vibe from Marie yet - though she's my favorite St. Thomas team member and I would also love to see her find her way into the inner circle, though I doubt that will happen on this season.
Well said CzarEric--I completely agree with the breakdown
