So now that Jeter's out, does that mean the fairweather Yankees fans will boo everyone in the lineup?
No baseball fan can boo Ichiro.
The Tigers need to win this afternoon. A-Roid is getting bored riding the bench and needs to be free to pick up random floozies without the media glare.
You guys know there's another series going on right? It's between the last 2 world series winners...you know the Cardinals, the team that came out of nowhere to get to the playoffs last year, then won the greatest baseball game of all time and the world series, then lost their best player, manager, pitching coach, best pitcher and second or third best player to injury, then still got into the playoffs, beat the team with the best record in the major leagues with the greatest comeback in a postseason elimination game ever, are up 2-1 in their series against the Giants, and still no one is talking about them...

I said the Cardinals were my favorites to win the WS.
I hate the Cardinals. I really don't want a rerun of 2006. :(
Why do you think you'll lose again?
Over/under times mccarver has butchered descalsos name this series: 5742465377.

Perhaps because most of us are BoSox fans so the Yankees losing is the biggest deal. However, I lived in St. Louis for 7 years (longer than anywhere else in my life) so I consider the Cards my NL team and I'll be rooting for them and continuing to watch every game.
I'm so glad that my Tigers came through and trounced the Yankees. Fantastic job. I was really hoping to see the Giants make the World Series, but that's looking less and less realistic.

I've been watching TBS, and TBS doesn't talk about anyone but the Yankees. When they had the delay for game 4, they showed all Seinfeld episodes with George and the Yankees. It wasn't about how the Tigers won - it was about how the Yankees lost.
I am so glad we beat them. But now people are going to start talking about what the Yankees are going to do in the offseason.
Why should it matter what their records are? They're the 2 best teams and they earned the right to play there. Real baseball fans will watch no matter who is playing.
I can't wait to see the ratings when the World Series inevitably ends up being between the teams with the 9th and 10th best records in the playoffs
The two teams playing in the World Series are the teams with the first and second best records in playoffs. That's why they're there ;)

As a neutral third party arbiter with no horses in this race, I'm going to score that one:

How to make the WS:
1. Play in the weakest division in baseball
2. Win a 5 game series when you have the best pitcher in baseball
3. Face a team in the middle of a historically bad slump

Aw, you're mad. Did someone on the Tigers kick your puppy?
Here's the way I look at it:
1. Have a nice September
2. Beat two teams who had better records in "better" divisions.
3. Profit
I detect some bitter Debbie Downers! Wah-waaaahhhh. Why are some of you acting like this is the first time baseball has used tournament style to determine its champions?
They wanted him last year as well. Hopefully we did not pay too much. I think he will affect positive change on the organization as he is well respected by the players.
Time will tell but I think it'd be great if we gave them Lackey for him.
It's being reported they got Mike Aviles. Only in our wildest dreams would anyone ever take Lackey off our hands without us paying 99.999% of his salary.
You'd almost have a better chance trading Arod or Vernon Wells! :wink2:
Well in that case, here's to hoping that Farrell and his pick for Pitching Coach can work a bit of magic into Lackey so we get at least half his worth in value.
You love them or you love to hate them, but without them, the series will suffer (Reuters)

As a point of trivia and education I think I should mention that the highest rated World Series in the last decade didn't involve the Yankees or a top five media market. :wink2:

999/1000 times, the ratings will be better if the Yankees are playing than if they are not. There isn't a situation in the foreseeable future where the Yankees not being in the WS will be good for ratings again. Maybe in 2082 when the Red Sox are in the 75th year of their WS drought, they will be better for ratings than the Yankees
