Pff, Mark will never retire, sadly. At the end of Exes, they did a whole tribute to his career, and then on Afterbuzz he said that he didn't really retire, I was like are you serious, man?
Is it sad? I'm 35. I'm married with 2 kids and a third on the way but if I was single (hell, or if the wife was okay with it) I'd absolutely make myself available for challenges if MTV/BMP wanted to include me.
I love competition--always have and always will. I think Mark Long is the same way. Yes, he loves attention (most people do) but he wants to compete and as long a he's in good shape (which he clearly is) I don't really see the problem. Make a little bit of money for the appearance, get a free trip, hang out with some friends, make some new friends, compete and possibly win a lot of money. That sounds like a great couple weeks/months without dealing with the stress of the real world.
Now it is sad that he continually claims he's going to retire--just don't say it and keep doing challenges.
Why the hell would Mark even say that he's retired if he's going to keep doing them? What's to be gained from that?
More air time
More air time
True..But it didn't seem all that worth it to me.(well not entirely true..he did get a montage of himself so I guess it did pay off.)

He's an ego maniac that loves when people say "NOOO MARK PLEASE DON'T RETIRE WE LOVE YOU ON CHALLENGES"?
I'm rewatching Duel 1 right now and Eric really did a good job leading that challenge for a new guy. Johnny, Paula, Kenny and Tyler are so different, it's crazy!
I think I remember reading this last year, but didn't Beth hold all 9 girls back in that endurance challenge for 25 or 45 minutes?
Also, Tyler's decision was crazy. I still don't understand it :-P

Duel 1?! Where?! I must know!!

I'm watching it on MTV.com At least the first episode, the second one isn't starting up as easily.

Because when you're 40 you probably realize it's time to move on with your life because everyone else is half your age. Then like Leroy says MTV calls you get paid to go on vacation, you're not gonna say no. Well I guess lots do, but when you have direction in your life and don't crave the attention it's a different story.

The original Fresh Meat is also on MTV.com

Oh, no no, it's not about his age at all! I understand why he'd want to come back.
I just really dislike his personality (well, how he's portrayed on the show). I feel like he should be a role model and he doesn't behave that way. Plus his persona is just way too cocky for me; he keeps saying he "started/created" the challenge (maybe he did, I don't know, but I don't think so); he keeps reminding everyone that he's 40... I'm not going to list every other reason why he's not my favorite person lol.
He's just one of those annoying castmembers that I would rather not see on any show, like Cara Maria.
I don't even have that big of an issue with him saying he would retire and going back on his word because I know that if it were someone else, I wouldn't mind.

I got you--I fully understand this point
I went on a rant earlier about how I would hate it if the next season was The Island; I know retract that statement. If MTV is really going to go by that poll online, I'm pretty sure that's going to be the case anyway since, apparently, the vast majority of the heavy hitters on the girls side will be missing making for a sucky Duel.
I honestly don't know why people, or I, thought this season was so bad.. good mix of drama and competition. If the format is tweaked it could be pretty bad *** if you put alum like Johnny, CT, and Wes in with Frank and Zach.

Ive been saying that for a long time, the Island was one of my favorite challenges ever but I think people hated it so much because A) Johnny was one of the stars and he won and B) only 3 people competed. I don't think they're choosing the next season directly by those polls, the next challenge will almost definitely be something having rookies vs vets but an Island 2 would be awesome to do down the line.

The Duel is pretty much a battle of strength. The Island is a battle of strategy AND strength. That's why I feel it's perhaps the best option... as long as they get the best players. Vets vs Rookies on vet and rookie teams can go south, because they don't necessarily have to strategize against each other. I think if we make them assign people to boats during the game, it'll add another strategy factor.
When I made a points system a while back for challenge wins, I noticed that there were some seasons of RW/RR/FM where a lot of cast members won games, and others where no one has won a game yet.
So in honor of Battle of the Seasons, which Seasons of this franchise do you think have fared the best in the challenge arena? (Meaning what season has produced overall wins, best competitors, best strategies... ect)
And how did you come up with your decisions?
My List (Primarily based on wins, but also on who produced the most "greats".
1. Road Rules Northern Trail - Roni won twice. I think everyone either made finals in their challenge seasons or won overall. I think they produced more wins than losses.
2. Key West - Johnny has won about 4, Tyler 2, Paula 1, Janelle 1, Svetlana made a final, this season is one of the most dominant group of people the show has seen.
3. Road Rules Campus Crawl - Rachel is a beast, Darrell is amazing, Shane did pretty well and made it far a lot, Kendall and Sarah both won their first games.
4. Fresh Meat 1 - Kenny & Evan have controlled this game for so long. Evelyn is one of the strongest girls physically we have seen that has pulled off a ton of impressive feats.
5. Road Rules Xtreme - Derrick still does great, Kina/Jodi/Ibis were the in crowd in a lot of games socially for a while. All the girls except for Angela have won before.
My list of worsts: (based off of seasons I've seen)
1. Denver - Zero wins, Jenn was promising but most of the others haven't been able to prove a lot.
2. Hollywood - With the exception of Britnni and maybe Kimberley, we haven't seen much from this season.
3. Austin - Socially, this team seems to always be the first target. Wes was good. Other than the Gauntlet 3 when just about every cast member was there, they've been eliminated and lost in head to heads.
4. Paris - CT is incredible, but overall no challenge wins, and not a lot of people that did the games.
5. Los Angeles - Not a lot of players (basically because they didn't do RW to do challenges later), other than Rachel in RR All stars, no wins either. And let's not forget Jo.
I think you are mistaking Los Angeles for San Francisco. Rachel and Jo are from San Francisco (and Puck who competed in BOTSexes).
I'd have to think of my list, but I think X-Treme, New Orleans 1.0, and Boston would qualify for mine, along with probably Campus Crawl and maybe South Pacific.
I don't think Austin or Paris belong in the worst 5. Austin produced Wes, Johanna, and Nehiniah and Paris had CT, Adam, and Ace. Each season had a beast competitor and 2 other solid competitors (Rachel M was also underrated). I think Brooklyn and New Orleans 2 (small sample size) were much worse.
Re-watched Cutthroat - not bad. I might say even though was pretty to me forgettable before, I liked it and wouldn't mind it being done again.
Also I wouldn't mind seeing Aiiiya on another challenge, she was outspoken and stirred up some stuff before she got the boot. We haven't seen what she can do yet either.
Re-watching Rivals.....BRANDON AND ROBIN?!?! For real,now?!

Rachel M underrated? She was absolute garbage. What did she do in either The Inferno 3 or The Gauntlet III that made you feel like she was underrated? She got to the final because she sucked and the other team saved her. If you watch the episode where she was saved, it was during the Pole Push challenge, that was the last challenge the Rookies lost on a girls day. She won by default and made it to the end because the Veterans saw her as weak.

Description: We paired up enemies in "Rivals" and old flames in "Battle of the Exes," now, for the first time ever, it will be an all out battle for Real World supremacy. "The Challenge: Battle of the Seasons" reunites cast members from seven of the Real World's most memorable seasons. Within each team, there are exes, rivalries, current romances, best friendships and everything in between that could either help or hurt them in their goal to become the last season standing. And to make matters more intense, in competing for $350,000 in grand prizes, the former roommates may have to turn on each other to secure their own safety in the game. The usual struggles of strength and stamina will remain, but this time, they'll have to sort out their issues from their original season if they want to win it all.
The Challenge (Season 23) - Full Episodes
I guess this means that there will only be 2 episodes left. Meaning that there will be 6 guys and 6 girls going to the final.
I think there are at least 3 episodes left, but it may only be 2 more eliminations. They won't be able to film the reunion on the 5th and air promos for it during the episode that same night.
My guess is that they wrap up the season on the 12th (3 episodes) and air the reunion at 11 right after it. They could also air the reunion on the 19th at the normal 10 PM time slot or have another additional episode on the 19th and air the reunion after that.
