Washington Heights (TV series)
Having trouble locating information on MTV.COM about it other than MTV showing 2 promos just now.. By the way, I'm getting tired of all the series with Heights in the title but this one looks interesting. Hopefully it knocks Buckwild out of the loop. Will premeire January 9th. A January premiere of Portland Real World is looking less and less likely.
The full trailer is on MTV's website. I agree, I think it looks interesting.
I got so excited as I was flipping through the channels and quickly passed this, I rushed to turn MTV on as I thought it was the Portland trailer. :( Definitely looks good though, better than a bunch of ******* teens trying to impress a camera.
Definitely gonna watch this, it seems like a black version of the Hills. Can't wait for Buckwild either, that looks awesome!
It's already trending on twitter since both the promos were shown on jersey shore.
It looks decent, I like how they're using the Hills format but merging it with an urban vibe in it.
It looks like a Love & Hip Hop and Baldwin Hills hybrid. I think it might be pretty good
MTV's New Series Shows Grit And Hustle Of 'Washington Heights' Docu-series will show the life, love and struggle of nine friends trying to make it in the Big Apple, beginning on January 9 at 10 p.m. You think you know, but you have no idea. This is the story of "Washington Heights." MTV's latest docu-series will follow the lives of nine friends trying to make it in New York City. With 11 hour-long episodes, the show will premiere on the network with two back-to-back episodes on Wednesday, January 9 at 10 p.m. ET. The series will document the comrades as they navigate careers in fashion, music, baseball and poetry, but also try to balance their family, dating and friendships as well. " 'Washington Heights' is an honest, intimate and entertaining look inside the lives, spirit and hustle of a unique group of individuals as they strive to pursue their passions," Chris Linn, executive vice president of MTV's programming and head of production, said in a statement about the series. "The show celebrates their friendship, neighborhood pride and mutual support as they make their mark — even when the challenges are great. We are optimistic that the stories of this incredibly appealing cast will connect with our audience in a deep and meaningful way.
"
JP (a.k.a. Audubon) JP is described as the "undisputed peacekeeper, motivator, and glue behind this tight-knit group of friends." While he wants to make it in hip-hop, he fears he may have to give up the dream to help out at home. Reyna She is the "fiery diva" of the bunch who is trying to also cut it in the music industry as a singer. Frankie What she lacks in stature she makes up for in personality. She's "boy-crazy," especially for Ludwin, but also cancels her energy in her dreams of becoming an English professor. Ludwin This up-and-coming artist has a mutual attraction to Frankie, but wonders if he can be the man she needs. Jimmy He's got big-league baseball dreams, but has to contend with a rough home life. His mom is MIA, his dad is finishing up a seven-year stint in prison and his girlfriend, Eliza, tends to add some drama to his life. Eliza She is a New Jersey native and budding fashion designer. Eventually her issues with Jimmy's friends may lead to him having to make a major life decision. Rico He lives at home with his mom and younger brother, Fred. While he knows he wants to be something, he just doesn't know what that is, whether it's model or actor. Fred Unlike Rico, Fred knows what he wants as he tries to hustle his way through the fashion industry. Taylor She may look "all-American... but she's Heights to the core." She's able to give her friends a different perspective on love and life.

I got so excited as I was flipping through the channels and quickly passed this, I rushed to turn MTV on as I thought it was the Portland trailer. :( Definitely looks good though, better than a bunch of ******* teens trying to impress a camera.
1) I am so with you. I actually thought it was Portland myself.
Definitely gonna watch this, it seems like a black version of the Hills. So it's not the "black" version of anything. Just because we're dark skinned/tan doesn't make us Latinos black. I'm not Dominican though but that's what mostly makes up Washington Heights.
I'm actually dominican and from Washington Heights.. I hope the show does well, but at the same time I hope that it doesn't somehow give a bad name to dominicans and the heights.. Also my brother met one of the girls on this show at a party this past summer.
isn't this on the The Real World time slot?
isn't this on the The Real World time slot?
I'm pretty sure it is, I think it's a sign. ;)
I'm pretty sure it is, I think it's a sign. ;)
I pray to god it isn't. Hopefully RW gets Teen Mom's time slot.
Oh please I which people wouldn't worry about such trivial things and just enjoy the program.
Couldn't have said it better myself.... really, I tried to work it well but it didn't work so I didn't bother replying lol.

I'm sorry but as a Dominican with family from the Heights I PRAY they show us in good light on this show! The last thing we need is bad attention or be associated with being trashy, ignorant, dramatic, or crazy. We already have the stereoype of platanos, being super sexually active, and loud. Not all Dominicans are the same. Some of us aspire to actually achieve the American dream, especially to make our parents proud.

You can already tell by them showing the single mom with the son whose father is in prison schtick. And sexually active thing is partially true (as much as that pains me to say this) but not for all Dominicans. I blame pornography and the specials they did on Dominican Republic on HBO the last two years for that. And the american dream is true too so I agree with you there, producer. Again I hope I didn't offend you. However I rather watch this than Buckwild which is utter nonsense.

Reading about the cast and their stories I think I'm going to really love this show! I see myself in some of the them, and it's by my neighborhood. Me and my brother were laughing at their accents, but then we realized we probably speak the same way lol, it happens when you grow up with Dominican parents that only speak Spanish, and you learn English from watching TV and school (like I did). I see myself as Ludwin. We have the same mind, and we try to look and behave differently than the stereotypical Dominican male.
I'm going to give this show a chance. But after L&HH Atlanta (the ultimate scripted reality show), its going to have to be great to keep my attention.
I just heard an advertisement for this show on my local hip hop station.. random. MTV is going all out
I'm going to give this show a chance. But after L&HH Atlanta (the ultimate scripted reality show), its going to have to be great to keep my attention.
Speaking of, the new New York season is horrible.
I just heard an advertisement for this show on my local hip hop station.. random. MTV is going all out
Well you have to admire their effort. This is probably the only (almost) black show they've had on MTV since Yo! MTV Raps.
L&HH Atlanta (the ultimate scripted reality show),
I doubt that, all the crazy antics Ms. Joseline will be pulling with her chopped and screwed english are too over the top, please show me the receipts!
I doubt that, all the crazy antics Ms. Joseline will be pulling with her chopped and screwed english are too over the top, please show me the receipts!
There is no way the pregnancy storyline was real. From Joseline taking the pregnancy test on camera, to her confronting Mimi about it, to Stevie carrying the test around in his pocket, it was just perfect. And you can definitely tell the confessional interviews are heavily scripted. I'm sure some of the show was real, but I'd say the majority was fake.
Speaking of, the new New York season is horrible.
So they been to LA, Miami and now NY? **** no.
Well you have to admire their effort.
I doubt that, all the crazy antics Ms. Joseline will be pulling with her chopped and screwed english are too over the top, please show me the receipts!
I like Joseline. I am team her and Chrissy. Stevie J was annoying *****.
There is no way the pregnancy storyline was real. Now if were talking about Trey from St. Thomas then I can understand.
SO far so good. This show is interesting. I still had no idea the white girl was official and causing Frankie friction over some ugly dude.
I liked it. This and Black Ink Crew are going to be my new fav shows of the spring.

Good show, I'm happy we have some positive Dominicans! I swear I'm like Ludwin haha
Not bad, it doesn't show Dominicans or Washington Heights in a bad light. Sure there was a fight but that's not out of the norm. I hope it does well. I liked how someone mentioned Black Ink, it's not as ratchet as I thought it would be. I'll be watching that and this.
