We all saw the trailer. We all saw the fight at the beginning of the season & now some people are appalled & horrified. The Real World has been all about partying, fighting & hooking up for the last 13 years or so. If you are still expecting an in-depth look at social issues you are sadly & blindly mistaken. This ain't Masterpiece Theater, kids.
I agree with this as well. It's no longer a "social experiment" people are way past that. It's all about the drama nowadays.

This ain't Masterpiece Theater, kids.
I do believe viewers can hope for and even demand the show that Mary Ellis Bunim created. She was a creative pioneer for social awareness and social change. BTW, I was angered from the beginning of the season, not just the past two weeks. At the beginning of the Brooklyn season, Jon Murray met with media and others at the Paley Center in NYC (reported elsewhere in vevmo) and said he wanted a show close to its roots. For that reason alone, I respectfully disagree with you. All I'm expecting is that Jon attempt to lived up to his words.
Sadly, I agree with most of the people on here saying that this brawl is what we, as a society, call "normal" for reality television. I'm not taking sides; everyone was in the wrong. Nia should never have started an argument and should have never heckled Johnny and Averey on about Daisy. Johnny shouldn't have retaliated the way he did, because that worked in Nia's favor; he should have known from the whole Jordan debable earlier on that you do not mess with Nia, period; otherwise, you will regret it. I believe that Nia went to far with the hair blower, and yes, Averey should have said something to Nia so that she didn't get to hit Johnny. Overall, this episode was amazing. The drama had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. And let's face it, without the drama, it would have been Jess dealing with her breakup/purity...now, would that be entertaining to watch? Again, society today is turned on by drama, brawls, etc., not by social issues; that train left a long time ago.

PBS and the BBC appear more inviting all the time.
This has been the best season in YEARS. those complaining need to recognize
No where near the best season in years, Vegas 2 blows it out of the water, even San Diego 2 was better than this.
even San Diego 2 was better than this.
Not even close. Not at all.
I dont follow any RW alum on twwitter but if any of you guys do, and they've said something about the episode, screencap it and post it here!

I'm a grown man, and I definitely would have beaten the living **** out of Nia had she done to me what she did to Johnny. I'm absolutely sick of this idea that women can freely attack men and men can't do anything back. If you're gonna act like a man, expect to be treated like a man. Bottom line.

Okay I think you all need to chill, I would let the fights happen too, they are ratings. Fights is what people tune in for. Blow dryer isn't a knife, calm the F down, she was never trying to bludgeon him to death or anything, you don't need to make this into a soap opera. They were getting good footage so why would they put a stop to it?
Has MTV relaxed their policy concerning physical fights on The Real World? I had always thought the rule was that if you hit another cast member, you go home. Nia and Avery are definitely guilty of straight up FIGHTING (and not just one punch, but several), yet neither have been sent packing. Trisha was sent home for pushing Parisa on RW: Sydney. Abram was sent home for punching Adam on RR: Viewers Revenge. Tonya was sent home for slapping Veronica on The Ruins. Adam was sent home for punching Ty on Rivals. CT was sent home for punching Davis on Inferno 3. Yet Nia and Avery are still here? Anyone else confused?
Haven't we known this for a while though...? Her jawline is pretty suspect...
Actually, she's part Native-American.
Nia's unprovoked attack at the end of the episode was assault under the Oregon statute, and in my opinion, should result in an arrest. There is no excuse for such a violation of law.
I mean technically, under Oregon law, what Nia, Avery AND Johnny did is considered ASSAULT and could result in in arrest. Not saying it SHOULD, but if you want to get technical, under the law, it was Johnny who committed the first unprovoked assault when he spilled his drink on Nia. Under Oregon law, that is considered assault. Under the law, it would look like this: Johnny assaulted Nia by spilling a drink on her Nia assaulted him back by punching him Nia assaulted Johnny again by hitting him with a blow-dryer Avery assaulted Nia by jumping in and punching her Nia assaulted Avery back Nia then assaulted Avery again by throwing a drink on her Nia then assaulted Avery again by punching her from behind in the bathroom I think Nia's reaction was excessive but I also think it was provoked. Avery and Johnny over-reacted with the dog thing (Nia was right, it's not her responsibility to clean up Avery's dog's **** and had Avery just taken her dog out to ****, like she should have, then Nia wouldn't have stepped in it) and Johnny's anger at Nia refusing to clean up the dog's **** was crazy, he needs to learn to control his temper. Then for them to still be angry over it, hours later, and refuse to let her play with their dog was ridiculous. I'm not defending Nia, by any means, but this was hardly Johnny and Avery's finest hour. None of them should be proud of their behavior in this episode.
So now the cast has to take it into their own hands about Nia leaving? LOL
I think I've figured out production's policy. They don't kick anyone out unless a cast member comes to them and specifically requests another cast member get kicked out because they've assaulted them. So, basically, production says, "If you feel unsafe because another cast member has hit you, it's your responsibility to come to us and tell us you want this person gone, and then we'll send them home. But if you don't specifically request they leave, then we'll let them stay." I think maybe Johnny and Avery were worried that if they said something, production might kick THEM off, too. On the aftershow for this episode, Nia specifically said she told them to either move out or she'd hit them everytime she saw them. So I don't think they were even going to ask for her to be kicked off until she threatened them with "either move out or I'll hit you everytime I see you."
You know what I find funny about Nia. Everytime she provokes her castmates and wants to "play the game" (even by crossing the line) they clearly don't react as she tries to manipulate them, but everytime they provoke her and when it turnes to be that they want to play the game, she gets mad and get provoked like a child and wants to start a fight. Who's immature again? If she doesn't change something and still wants to enter a challenge, she's going to have a really bad time there.
what?
It is plain English, sir, plainly written.

None of them should be proud of their behavior in this episode.
With respect to the law in Oregon, we appear to have a difference of opinion. Here is the statute:
§ 163.160¹ Assault in the fourth degree (1) A person commits the crime of assault in the fourth degree if the person: (a) Intentionally, knowingly or recklessly causes physical injury to another; or (b) With criminal negligence causes physical injury to another by means of a deadly weapon. (2) Assault in the fourth degree is a Class A misdemeanor. (3) Notwithstanding subsection (2) of this section, assault in the fourth degree is a Class C felony if the person commits the crime of assault in the fourth degree and: (a) The person has previously been convicted of assaulting the same victim; (b) The person has previously been convicted at least three times under this section or under equivalent laws of another jurisdiction and all of the assaults involved domestic violence, as defined in ORS 135.230 (Definitions for ORS 135.230 to 135.290); (c) The assault is committed in the immediate presence of, or is witnessed by, the persons or the victims minor child or stepchild or a minor child residing within the household of the person or victim; or (d) The person commits the assault knowing that the victim is pregnant. (4) For the purposes of subsection (3) of this section, an assault is witnessed if the assault is seen or directly perceived in any other manner by the child. [1977 c.297 §5; 1997 c.694 §1; 1999 c.1073 §1; 2009 c.785 §3]
Nothing in Johnny's behavior would rise to meet the citation above in the elements of proof. The pouring of a liquid on Nia would not qualify, unless the liquid were toxic or highly acidic or caustic. Nia's conduct, however, may meet the threshold test as established by Oregon's appellate court.
Where only injury suffered by victim was torn shirt, there was no physical injury within meaning of this sec*tion. State v. Lindsey, 45 Or App 607, 609 P2d 386 (1980)
Her repeated blows to Johnny's head, where he does not engage her in any response other than to leave her presence, and at the end of the episode, the apparent unprovoked and announced attack to Avery from behind is certainly worthy of investigation by appropriate authorities. Further, Bunim Murray Productions and MTV Networks (as VIACOM) are responsible for the safety of cast members in their employ. This fact was established under Calif law at the appellate level during Tonya Cooley v. MTV Networks, Bunim Murray Productions, et alia, and may have had a duty to perform in this instance, although their engagement, if any, may be revealed in next week's final episode. That would be a separate, civil matter which I can't see getting much traction. The cast, overall, seems content in their relationship with their employers.
People keep trying to compare this fight to the CT fight, but the way production handled it was completely different. With CT, they tried to stop the fight but were unable to do so. As v1man mentioned earlier, members of production were hurt because of what CT was doing. Production's lack of involvement in this is what is absolutely appalling. After Nia assaulted Johnny and Jordan broke it up, production should have stepped in and sent her home right then. Instead they let it continue when they were perfectly capable of stopping it. As for why CT is a fan favorite and Nia is not, CT has shown remorse for his actions and had a redemption story arc on Rivals. People love a redemption story. It is why Ray Lewis was so popular.
NIA BEAT THEIR ***. I haven't read the pages yet but i'm expecting A LOT of Nia hate so i'm posting this ahead of time: "I'm prepared to see a BUNCH if Nia haters strictly because she got into a physical fight. But I find it funny that CT is the fan favorite, yet he got into stupid fights & almost killed a man. Don't be a hypocrite just saying . Without Nia this would be the Johnny & Avery love show.. and no one wants to watch that. I just don't get you fans.. you can never be impressed. You hate Real World: St Thomas because there is no drama. And then hate this season because there is drama." ^-^
MTE. All 3 of them were in the wrong, I hate Nia just as much as everyone else but LOL @ people actually trying to place 100% of the blame on her. They're all at fault here. And for people saying the police need to get involved or BMP are disgusting, dude it's a reality show. There have been way worse things that have happened on reality tv. That's not to say it's ok but at the end of the day it's a television show and if they see an opportunity to get ratings of course they're gonna take it. People are acting like producers of reality shows actually care about the people when in reality they really don't, it's all about ratings, that's how it's always been.
There have been way worse things that have happened on reality tv.
That doesn't make it acceptable.
And for people saying the police need to get involved or BMP are disgusting, dude it's a reality show.
We live in a civil society with a rule of law. Just because cameras are rolling doesn't absolve people from responsibility. There isn't a reality show loophole in the legal code.
A couple things.. A lot of people are saying its not Nia's dog so she doesnt have to clean it up. When you (over)feed a dog almost every day that lives in the same house as you and give him all of this **** that clearly a dog shouldnt be getting then **** yeah you are also responsibile for regularly cleaning up the dogg ****. Not to mention that she carries this dog around and acts like its hers and then when push comes to shove its like: she is not my dog so why do i need to clean that. If its not your dog then dont feed it or dont touch it. Simple as that I dont like violence at all. But if i was Avery i would do the same thing. If a girl was hitting my bf (and those were not little slaps btw)and i know that he cant do anything back because she is a female, i would jump in right away and go at her. Nia goes at Jordan and Johnny because she knows that they cant do anything back so it gives her power and control over that situation.
It still remains that Daisy is Avery's dog, not Nia's. She shouldn't be expected to clean up after someone else's dog. Besides, Avery fed the dog the same type of food.
If you actually watch the CT vs Adam fight, you can see the producers and just about the entire Challenge male cast trying to hold CT back as he hits Adam more than once, destroys a door, and chases after Adam. Then they keep themselves between both men in an effort to stop anything else from happening. Another thing, CT vs Adam was not on US soil. RW Portland is not only on US soil but production is seriously negligent in allowing this to happen. As for whether or not crimes were committed and arrests are made, the footage is there and the District or State's Attorney can still pursue criminal charges for actions taken. They do not need permission from one of the victims to file because this is probable cause. Not only that, they can subpoena the raw footage from BMP and MTV as evidence of a crime being committed. As for the Reunion, I hope Coral is the host and shuts Nia down. I wonder if Nia can "speak into existence" parole.
The Law Doesn't need to get involved in this. What is all this about Criminal Charges?
The Law Doesn't need to get involved in this. What is all this about Criminal Charges? You all need to stop this Overdramatic BS.
Actually, from what V1Man said, the Portland City Council is looking into it because city and state laws for domestic abuse may have been broken. Permits were issued for filming which required production to be compliant with those laws. By permitting such things to occur, they may have broken those laws and invalidated the permits which could also result in a civil lawsuit which would affect BMP and VIACOM (who owns MTV). If that occurs, the producers of this particular season will most likely lose more than just their jobs.
Yes, it occurred on US soil, or, more specifically, it occurred in Portland, ORGEON, which is about 3000 miles away from Nia's hometown in Atlanta, GEORGIA. You really think the DA is going to go out of their way to take the time and resources needed to go all the way from Portland to Atlanta pick up Nia, arrest her and extradite her on a plane to Portland over a domestic dispute, misdemeanor charge? ****.
