God I hate to be the Debbie Downer of this thread, but I'm not real excited about the male leads they've picked. Colin Farrel, yeah, but Vince Vaughn....I have a hard time taking him seriously. But I'm guessing since they picked him he's got the chops. Now that Rachel McAdams is out of the running I don't feel for ANY of the females in the running, ESPECIALLY Jessica Biel....omg if they pick her...it will be very hard for me to watch Season 2.

Step right up, firing squad. I'll show myself out Blum 3

No firing (from me at least)! I don't like Colin Farrell, but I think Vince could be great, it is hard to take him seriously though!

I had  typecast Matthew Mcconaughey at one point in his career and couldn't take him seriously. If you ask me what the first thing that comes to mind when I here his name now, I'd say True Detective and Dallas Buyers Club. I think of him as the real deal serious actor.

You ask me that same question 10 years ago and I say Alright! Alright! Alright! as the first thing that would pop up in my head would be his character in Dazed and Confused, probably followed by a composite of him in all those mediocre romantic comedies.

I think that True Detective is a vehicle for greatness and I have a feeling Vince fought hard for this role and is going to bring it and maybe this time next year I'll think of him as the amazing actor from True Detective rather than the  guy from Swingers/Wedding Crashers.

Rosario Dawson is a far better actor than Jessica Biel.  I'm not concerned about "diversity" but I do care about talent.

Colin Farrell is tolerable.  Vince Vaughn?  Not sure

'True Detective' Season 2: Vince Vaughn Confirmed; Official Plot Details

The cast shaping up to be a good one! Unfortunately though, it looks like scheduling conflicts have forced Rachel McAdams to drop out of the race for female lead. Looks like the battle is between Rosario Dawson, Jessica Biel, and the newly announced candidate, Kiera Knightley. No complaints regardless of who gets it! I do think Rosario will add some needed diversity to the cast however.

I never watched this show before, but I need too. All this season 2 talk has me interested. Love Colin Farrell he's so hot. I never knew Vince Vaghun was serious type actor only comedy, but I think he could do well on this show. As for the female leads, love Rachel McAdams, bummed she backed out. I feel like she's a very underrated actress. I hope Keira Knightley gets it. I've been wanting her to take on a serious award winning role since Atonement. Rosario Dawson is okay. I'd be fine with that so another black women can have a lead role. Jessica Biel is all around irrelevant and she needs to disappear I can't stand that *****. I won't be satisfied with her till Justin Timberlake divorces her *** so I hope she doesn't get the role or any at that.

I'm not arguing that, Rosario is definitely better than Jessica. I only brought up diversity because we've had predominantly white leads so far.

Definitely give it a shot! I'm thoroughly enjoying season 1!

'True Detective' Season 2: Rachel McAdams Up for Female Lead

It's looking likely! She has adjusted her schedule specifically for the role! Smile

The lack of news is killing me... Such a long wait until next summer, ughhh... HBO needs to hurry up and announce that Rachel McAdams is officially the female lead. The plot and characters are sounding pretty great though:

A concentration on "hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system."

Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, “a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.”

Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon, “a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.”

Taylor Kitsch is rumored to play a character named Paul Woodrugh, "a younger detective, and troubled veteran who has seen his share of violence and destruction."

The female lead is Ani Bezzerides, "a no-nonsense sheriff from Monterey, who has gambling and drinking problems as a result of her “troubled upbringing.”

Elsewhere, creator Nic Pizzolatto's noir crime novel, Galveston, will be heading to the big screen.

A New Orleans hitman diagnosed with lung cancer discovers his mobster boss has decided to have him killed.
I think I'll go grab that from the B&N Nook store right about now! I am so obsessed with crime stories at the moment, haha!

Umm I LOVE Rachel McAdams!!! I will watch if she is on!

I've been taking my sweet *** time watching season 1 because I don't want it to end... Long story short, episode 5 was INCREDIBLE. Time to******* up, and binge the last 3.

Nic Pizzolatto and Matthew McConaughey are my heroes.

Finally, after lots of postponing, I binged those last three. Phenomenal. So much more than just another detective story, the philosophical elements, the journey, the actual real world inspirations (albeit still fictitious). Perfection. Best HBO series in a long time (sorry GoT, we're breaking up). I actually teared up at the very end when Rust broke down talking about his daughter. Fantastic.

just one story - light versus dark.

...the dark has a lot more territory.

Once there was only dark. You ask me, the light’s winning.

'True Detective' Season 2 News: Late Start With Casting Could Impact Production Schedule & Cause Crime Drama To Miss Its Summer Premiere

Ughhh. I hope not. The wait until summer is plenty long enough.

OMG, get on with it already. It has been an eternity already since the season finale. I can't take it anymore!

I agree with you Lurkernomore it's really getting frustrating waiting for news on the second season of True Detective. First they were supposed to start filming in early fall & premier the show in January again. Then delayed it to the summer in True Bloods spot & can't seem to complete a full cast. If they wait until 2016 instead of 2015 I believe they are going to lose some viewers & fans of the show.

The cast is pretty much locked in, they just haven't officially announced the other leads. I think they're waiting on Pizzolatto to finish the scripts, and since he's the sole writer, it's a tedious process (Colin Farrell said the first four episodes are crazy good). It will make a 2015 premiere, the big question is when? I think they'll get it done in time, but we'll see.

Well I thought the male cast was locked in pretty much the whole time with Taylor Kitsch getting the role of the young detective while Colin Farrell got the role of an older Detective. Vince Vaughan playing a career criminal who is some how connected to Farrell's character. Just leaving the female character lead to be filled.

The female lead was back and forth for a while, but pretty recently HBO made it clear Rachel McAdams was the frontrunner, she even adjusted her schedule to accommodate the filming dates. If things have changed since then, expect Rosario Dawson to nab the role.

That's cool I think Rachel McAdams will make an awesome female detective. Now if they would just get started filming season 2 the sooner the better.

Taylor Kitsch Thinks It Would Be Nice If HBO Would Let Him Be In Season Two Of ‘True Detective’

“Rumored right now, yeah,” Taylor said. When our producer suggested it would be nice to see the actor on the HBO show, he had an interesting response. “It would be nice, wouldn’t it? Yeah. So we’ll know in a couple days,” he said.

Asked if he really meant, yes, Taylor noted he couldn’t “really say anything about it.” But he did admit to being a fan of the first season. “I’m a mad fan for it. Nic Pizzolatto, the whole — everything, so I think it’s — I’m excited for Season 2 — if I’m in it or not,” he said.

"So we’ll know in a couple days,” Uh huh. Yup. He's locked in.

Now we only need Rachel McAdams confirmation (I really hope it ends up being her), I wonder what's taking them so long.

Does anyone love the theme song as much as I do? I really hope they don't change it for season 2.

OMG. Yes. It's so eerie and perfect, just like Bad Things was for True Blood.

Yesss, I have both of them downloaded on my iPhone.

True Blood's intro is hands down my favorite TV opening sequence. Ever. True Detective's is a close second. I really hope they keep Far From Any Road as the theme song, but considering the second season will have a completely different atmosphere and setting, I won't be surprised if they change it.

One thing I'm really going to miss during season 2 is Cary ********* directing on each episode. It made it feel like an 8 hour film and was so spot on, and had cohesion that lots of other series lack. It's a huge undertaking for a director, but the end result is fantastic. I hope that having multiple directors this season will give the show a unique flare that really sets it apart from season 1, but still stays true to the high standard it set.

In a perfect world, every episode would be on the same level as episode 5, haha! And OMG, the long take at the end of episode 4 was TV gold. Reasons like that are why working in television is my ultimate goal.

I have a feeling they will change the theme song for that exact reason, but I really hope they don't.

Everything about season 1, the acting was superb, the scenery was beyond beautiful and the music was so captivating.

Everytime I watch the scene where they are watching the video of the homicides in the storage room still gives me chills, it was truly horrifying. And that scene at the end of episode 4 had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

I really hope next season can reach the level of greatness that the first one did.

It was world class television, absolute perfection. I'll probably rewatch it 150 kabillion times, haha! Season 2 cannot get here soon enough!
