*No spoilers please*
They haven't done this in years. It's usually fun to have something to look forward to after the RW season is over.
Does this mean we have to wait even longer for the next RW/Challenge season to air? Or might we get another later in the year like we used to? (as opposed to 1 RW, 1 challenge per year like it has been)
Why do you think they changed it up? I can understand maybe trying to capatalize on the RW season so fans can just watch the Challenge right after, but the 10pm time slot seems way too late. This has me worried... like it's some sort of last ditch effort to keep the showing going.
The only thing I'm thinking is that they didn't want to want so long after Diem's passing (as morbid as that sounds). The challenge premieres less than a month after the We Love Diem special. So now they can continue to promote the challenge for the whole month during the RW. If it was 3 months after RW's 1st episode like usual, it wouldn't be as fresh in people's minds.
Do you think its for ratings or why did they change it up? Thoughts on this... Do you like it?
To be blunt, I think it was done because of Diem and Knight's passing. People were already talking about the show, so they wanted to capitalize on that. And I don't mean that as a bad thing or anything, but I believe that definitely played a role.
To be honest, I think it makes a bit more sense because this way it won't be as long between the newest RW season and the first challenge the newest RWers are eligible for.
I'm guessing the fact that no one from Season 30 is not on this season and the passing of Diem and Knight , they decided to air it. I wouldn't be shocked If a new Challenge begins filming in February or March.
Like mph said, it's most likely out of respect to both Diem & Knight.
I personally like having this Challenge air earlier... (the earlier, the better I'd say) It never made sense tbh to have them air after RW since the current RWer's aren't even on it. (leading to casual fans disappointed, making them more forgettable, etc) I'd prefer it vise-versa.
Like someone else said, Tuesdays aren't that competitive ratings wise. 11/10c does seem kind of late, but I think this show will still do well.
As for what's to come... It could possibly lead to another Challenge(/RW) filming and airing next year in the fall. More content =
They should start casting people for season 31 of the RW as soon as possible so they can film it around may or june. Start filming for the next challenge around april. Then air the next Challenge around august with the new RW season airing after the Challenge finishes.
Yes! Let's just have a never ending cycle of real world and challenges!
Respect? No
Ratings? Yes
I also feel they moved up the Challenge premiere date to capitalize on their deaths. It is pretty intense they you are airing a reality series featuring two people who recently passed away. There will be people tuning in that probably never watched before and are just intrigued from reading all the articles. I think the 11pm EST airing would be a huge no-no ratings wise under normal circumstances, but given these circumstances I feel like it doesn't even matter. They could air it at 4 am and people would watch. I personally am struggling with what to do because I am so cranked up after the Challenge that I have issues falling asleep. If it is not ending until midnight and then me having to calm down to fall asleep and then get up at 7 is going to be tough. If it was a Thursday, I'd******* up and be tired on Friday knowing it was the last day of the work week. A Tuesday is too early in the week to do that. I know I am going to be tempted to watch it but also know I should just DVR it. I do have more comments but since this is a non-spoiler thread, I'll leave it at that.
Side note - I listened to part of an interview with Jamie Larson lastnight and she said she heard they may take a break from the Challenge after they air this out of respect for Diem and Knight. I don't think doing another season is at all disrespectful - they should be more focused on not screwing up editing on the last we will see of these two.
I think taking a break is pointless. The Challenge is hot right now and if this season goes well it'll be even hotter. Plus, with the premiere date it could allow them to air another one this year in the fall.
Totally agree. I'd like to see one in the fall.
If Exes II delivers solid or even decent ratings, I fully expect them to air a season in October/November.
Same. I think everyone is just shocked right now with what all has happened. It's been a lot to process so people aren't really thinking clearly. But once this season starts airing things I believe will get better and by March when the finale comes everyone will be in a better place. People still want to compete too. They have a lot of cast members who would come back for another season so why stop now. And filming in the summer is always smart IMO.
As they say, the show must go on! Look at Fashion Police. Joan Rivers passed in September and they took a like 4 month break and now it's coming back in January. With a new host. They had to completely restructor the show. Diem and Knight were just recurring so you know they don't have to stop the show.
I don't fully expect CT to be on the next one though. Jemmye maybe but probably not CT right now.
Summer allows them to assemble the best cast too, generally no school to worry about, easier to get off from work, etc. I'm thinking April/May availability calls, June/July filming.
Yup. With a October-December premiere date. Since a lot shows now premiere like anytime of the year. And taking breaks for Christmas doesn't really exist anymore lol (point in case Real World: Skeletons)
Now the question is what they'll do. I doubt teams though. Partners work ratings wise. If it's not broke don't fix it. Plus, they are easier to promote. Easy to catch on too. The bios are better. It looks more interesting on paper. I think co-ed Rivals could work really well. Allies could work but they like putting people together who have problems because it crates drama. Allies could create drama but it all depends on the cast.
I think teams can still work, but they need a catchy theme. Rookies vs. Veterans, Champions vs. Challengers and Red vs. Blue vs. Gray are not going to work with today's audience. I think a Heroes vs. Villains can attract viewers. Allies also has great potential, though not as much as Rivals and Exes. At this point we'll probably see Rivals 7 and Battle of the Exes 5.

agreed. i hope they are respectful to the deceased and their family and friends.
Lol. I think Heroes vs. Villians is played out and won't do much for ratings and keep peoples attention the entire season. I think Boys vs. Girls could be interesting with this new crop of people.
Highly unlikely but a Cutthroat 2 wold be there best option in order to find more pairings for Rivals and Exes.
Plus I don't see anyone besides CT , and Maybe Jemmye and Wes taking off next season or just declining in general.
I could see Wes coming back maybe. Possibly Jemmye too as a little getaway. Clear her mind, have fun, and be around people. CT though, probably not.
Yea. Sadly, I believe CT is done. Although, it would be nice to see him come back and compete in her honor. Maybe he would donate his winnings to Medgift-that would be nice.
Cutthroat 2 would be a great way to replenish the cast pool. Bring in a few regulars, some oldies itching for a return, and a healthy amount of rookies. Voila.
If they were looking to not be disrespectful, they wouldn't bump up the air date so close. Doesn't make sense to me either.
My thinking is that the actual cast members and maybe even the crew still need time to mourn and move on from two big deaths before they're able to film another Challenge. They're having trouble enough these days casting people, I can see them getting a lot of "Nos" from people they wouldn't have in the past: C.T., Jemmye, and others. Going back to film would probably spark up a lot of bad & good memories, especially since Diem had to leave the Challenge this season in a tragic way.
I'm curious to see how they will handle interviews and aftershows with the cast members inbetween the shows. I can't even imagine how that would be done, especially if Knight and Diem are involved with the storylines that week. I have a feeling we'll see much less of that this season.
I don't see the point in taking a break from producing the challenges. I mean yeah people are sad that Knight and Diem have passed but they're still people that want to come on and compete. Life still needs to go on for everyone. Two monkeys don't stop no show.
And I don't believe that BMP has a hard time casting. There's just several people who they don't wanna cast because They're Boring(yet half the people on this show are boring and don't do shit) The Audience Won't be familiar with them(Yet that didn't stop them from casting Emilee/Cohutta/Issac last season and I think Cohutta has a fanbase now). Or they're season was too long ago(Yet that didn't stop them from bringing Devyn on years after her season and them Trying to get a Sydney/Hollywood/DC team for seasons 2)
Maybe they moved it up thinknig it will be done airing by like the end of march. Give everyone a several month break then come summer film one for the fall. Unless they just film a Real World this summer to air in fall. I dunno. Time will tell
I agree they are kinda capitalizing on their deaths however they could've dedicated it in the spring/summer airing as well, ya know. This is gonna mess up my DVR though, lol.
AT first I thought you meant give the audience a several month break. I wouldn't be surprised if noone did it until late 15 early 16 out of love for diem as it won't be the same without her and ct on it. as well as knight but then again the people who haven't done one in YEARS may want to come back to celebrate for them. SO many possiblities may actually work in favor.
Like KellyAnne! She should come back. Her and Dunbar for co-ed Rivals!
Nah she needs to be with Darrell for that.
Yeah, but they wouldn't put her with Darrell. They would put her with Dunbar.
They probably won't put her with anyone, because she'll say no, ****!
