I have just seen "Enemy" and holy shit is it a **** masterpiece. I absolutely adore films that challenge my mind, and this one did just that. 9.5/10Only go and see this film, if you're an ENORMOUS fan of cinema.

The Double was a good novel, and the enemy was a good adaptation of it.

Tell me more of what you thought about the adaptation. Do you think that it represented the novel fairly ? Which is better, the book or the film ? What did you think about the ending and how did you first interpret what's going on ?

I know it was a very loose adaptation, but I feel as though it had the general feel of two parrellel lives, sorta say. I only watched the movie once, and read the book once, both of which were very thought provoking, but confusing at least for me. I'm more of visual guy, so I like movies better. Easier for me to digest, and less time consuming. But I do want to give the book a read, mainly because my friend loved it and I never understood it to its entirety.

In regards to the ending of the movie, I was totally like "aaaaiiieee.." at first. after like 10 minutes, I started to think of the symbolic of the spiders. This is a man whose being consumed by a totalitarian lifestyle, he also sees women as spiders. I think he feels his whole existance is being controlled by women. My friend, who I watched it with at the time, thought that ending was a result of him finding out he had a double. Spiders represented the totalitarianism in his life, and because that censores or eliminates and expression of individuality, as soon as he found out he had a double, he lost that individuality. Which to me, went way over my head at first.

Also, the movie definetly kicked into my Arachnophobia into high gear.

Also, I like the book ending better. If you follow the law of phsyics, something cannot exist in two places, one of them has to die. Right?

What did you think?

I actually re-watched the film as soon as it ended because I was like...what the **** did I just watch? But after my 2nd watch I think I have a clear (and possibly correct) understanding of what happened.

From what I gathered, I'm 100% sure that there is no double and I say that due to the constant hints that were dropped all throughout the film that proves so, for example:

- When "Anthony's" wife calls her husband he answers AFTER "Adam" has walked off the screen.

- How did Anthony know where Adam lives ? Unless they're the same person.

- Adam's mother tells him in a conversation to quit his acting fantasy...that's a weird thing to say when Anthony is conveniently an actor as well.

- In the same conversation, Adam says that he hates blueberries which his mother replied to with "What ? You love blueberries". We later find out in the film that Anthony loves blueberries as well.

- Near the end of the film when Adam was laying next to Anthony's wife (she believes that she's laying next to Anthony) she asks him how's school is going ? Weird, why did she ask that if Anthony is an actor, not a history teacher. Which also leads me to conclude that the wife knows about his "mental illness".

Now my interpretation of what the spiders are is that they represent women. Before even that, it's pretty apparent that Anthony/Adam is very unfaithful and has committed adultery while being with his pregnant wife, she also expressed how afraid she is of him going back to that lifestyle, she wants to fix him, he wants to fix himself as well that's why he has been fighting his negative side (Anthony) this whole time and it seems like he succeeded at the end and he defeated his tempting urges (Anthony gets in a car accident), but we also see him give in AGAIN to temptation as soon as the opportunity presented itself (the new key to the strip club, and him asking his wife that he's gonna go out somewhere), therefore when he goes and checks on her in the room at the end scene we see a big spider backing off as if he is scared, why is the spider scared ? It's the wife, she has seen this before fom him and she knows what he means about "going somewhere" (she says earlier in the film "are you seeing her AGAIN") that's why I believe that the spiders represent women. You also notice how Adam kept preaching in his history classes about how history repeats itself.

After thinking about the film for a while, I've also came to the conclusion that Adam/Anthony divorced his pregnant wife and has moved to a new flat (Adam's flat), why do I say that ? Here's why:

- We see that Adam's flat is empty, almost as if he just moved in, there's a bed and a computer and a bunch of packed boxes, that's it.

- It would make sense for the wife to divorce him, especially after her reaction (or the spider's reaction) in the end.

- In the end, the wife tells Adam/Anthony that his mother called and left a voice mail, and what does the film open up with ? A voice mail of his mother. This means that the events are almost going in reverse.

- Adam also has preached about something going in reverse during his history classes, I honestly can't remember what exactly he said, but it was something that kinda proves my theory right.

I think the movie all in all is about his skeletons in the closet which is him not being able to stay faithful, so he tries to fight off that negative side (Anthony), but it always comes back and he always gives in to temptation as we saw in the end, and it was subtly symbolised as well during the history classes.

All of the above is why I freaking loved this film, it makes you think, and dig deep in your thoughts, I really can't say how much I adore this flick but you get the point lol. Not to mention the performances, the directing, the score and the cinematography were ALL amazing, I'm not even exaggerating.

Very lengthy, but that comepletely makes sense. Perhaps I took thinks to its face value a bit too much. When I find time, I'll give this movie a second go, so I'll look at what you said and see.

Who did the score? it was amazing. And Gynllehal, like always, had an outside performance, not say the rest didn't. I just google'd Denis Villeneuve, to see what other movies he's been a part of. The only other one I've watched is Sicario, and I really enjoyed that movie, so the quality of this movie completely makes sense.

Any other movies similar, you recommend?

Lol. What is this Enemy and trailer?

I honestly don't know who did the score, I would have to look that up.

A film that is very similar to Enemy in the aspect of it being a mind**** is Coherence (2013) It as well makes you think realllllly hard after the credits have rolled, I'll definitely be willing to discuss it with you, and I am interested in seeing how you interpret it.

I'm sorry but what did y'all expect the Blair witch reboot to be like? They should have never touched the idea of remaking that as it was unnecessary and unwanted

That describes alot the remakes of today..unnecessary and unwanted.

Cloud Atlas is my favourite thought-provoking movie Smile and one of my top 10 movies for sure.

This trailer is still hands down my favourite trailer to any movie ever made

its really hard to describe lol... but its 6 interweaving stories that take place in different time periods. Each story is in someway connected, either by the physical or the metaphysical. Our actions ripple across not only our own lives, but those in future generations. Mistakes of the past allow the present to learn and the future to fix. It's very interesting. The first watch may be a little difficult and confusing (and its long - about 3 hrs), but it is just abosolutely fantastic. Many critics were split because of it's length and confusing storyline, but it still remains one of my favourite movies of all time! It is definitely worth a watch if you like movies that make you ponder life

I never finished the book but the structure is very different (in the book each of the 6 stories is halved.. you get the first half of each story in the first half of the book (from oldest to future, and then at the middle it goes in reverse order for the second half of each story... the movie just mixes them all together, which i prefer more)

Disney is making a live action remake of one of my favorite movies ever, Mulan. I'm so ashamed that they're considering casting Scarlet Johansson of Jennifer Lawrence even though I love both of them.

Jamie Chung, Lucy Lu, and Brenda Song should be considered seeing as they are some of the biggest and best Asian stars and would do a great job. I don't understand casting a white person for an Asian princess

Not to be messy but you mad late. this is old news.. And lol at you saying Brenda Song is the "biggest asian star" this is not 2006 or zack or cody. In fact the last time she was heard of she lied about being impregnated by another disney star circa 2012-13

also, they are trifle for trying to white-fy all the asian movies but they've been doing it since Ring 1 plus Scarlett is the lead in Ghost in the Shell.

It wasn't even a remake. It was a direct sequel to the original movie & they ignore the accounts of Blair Witch Book of Shadows. I love how people just post random shit as facts on this site haha. Where on any trailer, tv show, article or promotion for this movie ever once say it was a remake???

Book of Shadows wasn't an intended sequel though doofus. It was a real life esque reaction to the previous year's movie. so of course it was ignored.

It might as well been a remake when 90% of the film is literally the first movie, almost shot for shot too.

I can agree with you on that part. This movie was lacking originality & that's my biggest complaint with it. I didn't hate it, but was expecting a lot more.

I watched the trailer and it's not like Crash or Babble (which was much better than Crash, in my opinion). It's not that all the characters are connected. It more like the characters reincarnate, but the universe brings them together. So the first pair of characters from Hanks and Berry are connected with the reincarnation of the second pair of characters played by the same actors respectively. I believe that's what you meant, right Mitch?

Haven't watched. Haven't read the book either. What's it about?

its really hard to describe lol... but its 6 interweaving stories that take place in different time periods. It is definitely worth a watch if you like movies that make you ponder lifeI never finished the book but the structure is very different (in the book each of the 6 stories is halved.. you get the first half of each story in the first half of the book (from oldest to future, and then at the middle it goes in reverse order for the second half of each story... the movie just mixes them all together, which i prefer more)

So basically this is a wannabe Crash? window.post_1474253819492_13 = function(win,msg){ win.postMessage(msg,"*"); } window.post_1474253825662_41 = function(win,msg){ win.postMessage(msg,"*"); }

I believe that's what you meant, right Mitch?

not exactly... all the actors play 5-6 different roles for each time period, but none of them are reincarnations of themselves. But you are also somewhat right, but that has more to do with the title of the movie... you'll understand when you watch.

It's October and you know what that means??? 31 Days of Halloween!!! Let the movie marathon commence haha I always try to watch a movie everyday (and usually fail **** if anything i do the 13 days (19-31), but this year i'm going to try my best to stick to it!!

Tonight's horror movie: Suspiria!!! I've actually never seen it and I have always meant to... just the concept itself sounded amazing. I just finished watching it and I have to say that that was a fantastic film!!! the sets were amazing, the music was creepy and perfect, and the story was great. Even the kills were shocking (that opening one and the barbed wire? one were my favourites). The movie had so much atmosphere! The ending happened all so fast, but I didn't mind it... I think it would've been better with a different ending (maybe an ending a little more open ended), but it was still great

I'll take any and all recommendations (I'm thinking "Poltergeist" tomorrow - obviously the original)

easily my favorite time of the year. I love snuggling up and watching a good scary movie!
