This is an arthouse film on a grand scale that clocks in at almost 3 hours. If you thought the first one was boring, add 40 minutes and slow the pace down...
Ryan Gosling was an interesting choice for the role, he doesn't seem like an action star to me. Anyways-- I heard it's getting rave reviews.
I don't want to give anything away other than to say this is not an action movie as it was marketed. It is thoughtful, introspective and prodding. Gosling was actually well cast.
Interesting looking at the original and seeing the the ads for this one. I googled some reviews but the first thing that popped up was that it's a box office nightmare only getting an estimated $13 million this weekend.
That was actually for Thursday/Friday...but it does look like it will underperform. It's just not a mainstream movie.
I do think in 10 years it will be regarded as a sci-fi masterpiece, but tough to say if it even breaks even now.
I can still hear the rousing Hans Zimmer score in my head with touches of Vangelis. It's a powerful movie, but you have to go into it with a patient and absorbing attitude. It's a long ride.
anyone see Happy Death Day? ahaha it actually wasn't that bad... wasn't scary per say, but the groundhog day mystery was pretty fun to try and work out. I laughed quite a lot more than i jumped but that was definitely the point. The ending twist was pretty good and definitely is worked into the story looking back on it.
Star Wars 7 gave me anxiety all 3 times I saw it in theaters, I don't know how I'll be able to contain my inner nerd for the new one.
After Rouge One, I'm excited that they're branching out into new stories. It's been rumored forever about an Obi Wan spinoff with Ewan McGregor returning, and Jesus I hope it's true. Obi Wan was my favorite in the prequels.
Just finished Leatherface just now and it might be the saddest Texas Chainsaw movie for me. Especially the ending UGDHSHISKSOSOSOX. But MILES better than Texas Chainsaw 3D. You get emotionally attached to the characters. But **** that ending. Even though it was kinda inevitable when you think about this movie being the prequel of all the movies. But ****.
The reason it was so sad to me was cause I actually really liked Leatherface when he was sane and good. He was so sweet and nice and it sucks that crazy psychotic mother corrupted him to being a psychopath. When he was sweet to the nurse because it was the first time anyone's ever showed good love to him </3. I was so ****** even though I expected it when he ended up killing the nurse at the end cause of his mother corrupting his mind again. She even said she saw he good in him and that his moms nuts. He could've been a good guy </3. And I liked how they had a whole bunch of twists and turns to keep you from figuring things out.
Everyone go see The Last Jedi ASAP! I saw it Thursday at 7pm and although it's a little long, it's the best one yet in my opinion. I kid you not I was shaking for 5 minutes after the movie almost in epileptic shock with how intense it was. Stay for the credits to see a tribute message to Carrie Fisher, the whole theater erupted in cheers--as did I.
If anyone else who saw it wants to digest what happened message me I'm dying to get my thoughts out hahahahaha.
Watched Dunkirk today and was kinda disappointed. There wasn’t really any character development and the action sequences were not as big as I thought they would be. Overall it was ok.

It's actually one of my favorite movies this year. I read that Nolan didn't even want dialogue, but the studios insisted on at least some character development.
Dunkirk is relentless. That's the movie in a nutshell. An efficiently cut, thrilling masterpiece with an epic Hanz Zimmer score. The film's characters are stand-ins for the everyman, caught up in the horrors of war.
Most importantly, it was meant to be seen in 70MM IMAX. I watched it this weekend on a 60" 4K HDR screen and it didn't hold a candle to an 80' IMAX screen. I think when you are talking Christopher Nolan, you have to see it in the theater as that experience can't be replicated at home.
I was thinking of watching Logan but have not seen any of the other X-Men movies. Do I need to watch the other movies (or at least 1?) or can I watch Logan as a stand-alone?

no it’s a stand alone film. Doesn’t even reference the others and the tone is very dark and adult compared to the lighthearted, kid friendly X-men movies.
Pitch Perfect 3 was trash. They should have left it alone after the sequel because they ruined a lot of what made the first two good.
the trailers for that looked awful. Almost straight to dvd quality. I honestly hated the second one because of all the racial jokes with the one Mexican character.

They continue those racial jokes in the 3rd one FYI.
As history junkie I am very disappointed in Nolan's representation of Battle for Dunkirk, it was was mostly drama/thriller with some aspects of an actual war movie. Just look at the first scene, they are walking through the streets that are clean with no one to be seen while in reality city was bombed, full of blockades, french soldiers covering beach, tons of ammunition and equipment left behind, etc.
Logan is good minus last scene where kids run in fear while in reality they could kill every soldier without a problem, but that is main Marvel problem because they refuse to show death.
I can't handle a lot of blood and gore that is in war movies. I saw Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan once and that was enough.Comedy and horror is where I'll stay
Speechless... Band of Brothers is my favorit TV show.

It was way too much for me. I like to escape reality with movies

Can you even watch popular shows right now considering they are all bloody?

On that note, going to watch John Wick 2 now.... I need some mindless action.
The first Blade Runner was great. I'm definitely excited for 2049.

I saw it last night. I liked it but think I would have enjoyed it more if the kills were more bloody. Still a pretty good movie though. It was fun

IMO, I didn’t think The Last Jedi was as great as it was said to be by critics. I did enjoy it more than the Force Awakens
Someone posted some jank *** spoilers on facebook earlier this week. If they're true, y'all can keep it. ✌️
Just got back from the theater. We might need a spoiler thread on this. I'll start one and see if people want to chat about it.
The Greatest Showman was sooo good. Zendaya and Zac had great chemistry and the musical numbers were amazing especially Rewrite the Stars/This Is Me.

I've been seeing it show up on a lot of top 10 lists so I wanted to give it a shot.

Just watched Bright and it was predictable. Other than that, it wasn’t bad
