A lot of vets really just come on for a check which isn't a problem but at least bring good TV don't play to not win and still bring nothing
theyre too busy hiding each others dirt and it makes boring tv. I am so thankful we have amanda this season because shes the only vet who actually spills tea
There is a large combination of factors for why the show is performing so poorly.
1. CASTING. Oldschooler has it right. The Vet casting is ABYSMAL. Tori has no fans. Fessy, Kaycee. Josh have ZERO fans. Aneesa can't win, no one is rooting for her. Same with Nany. Ashley's crying/drunk/crazy schtick is awful. Nelson and Cory are completely phoning it in. Devin, CT, and Kyle are sleepwalking. WHO ARE WE SUPPOSED TO ROOT FOR?
The casting producers have ignored the diehard fans so much that they've alienated most of their fanbase. Most of the people they re-cast are not entertaining television. They are producer pets. Tori, Aneesa, Josh, Kaycee, and Fessy all need a permanent break. Ashley needs a significant break.
Rookies? Mostly international, which means they've never watched the show and so they are clueless. A lot of them speak absurdly broken English so for casuals, it just becomes frustrating to watch. This in an American reality show, after all.
Also, none of them have any idea what is going on so they're sheep being led to the slaughter. Three episodes in and it's already too late, they're all doomed and I'm guessing barely any of them will make a lasting impact. And I doubt by Season 39 that any of them will still be on the show.
2. FORMAT. The format is a rehashed version of Double Agents, which felt fresh at the time, but now with so many rookies, it's just chaotic. These teams have no chemistry or flow. It's all mishmashed and no one knows who's with who. And the Vets banding together means we're in for at least three or four more episodes with ZERO politics.
3. Dailies. Throw bags out of a helicopter and run. Crush a cinder block and solve a puzzle. These are lame. At least this week's was a little better. But watching the cool contraption over the water challenges is sorely missed by me. Eliminations haven't been terrible so far.

Anyway, I think the problem is the vet guys. The show is backed into a corner where they haven't found male faces who are adequate enough to take the spots once occupied by much smarter, more charismatic, calculating men who were better competitors. CT is there but his game is to be as low key as possible. In the forefront, show-wise, the same young bucks and Big Brother guys aren't cutting it.

Queen Cheating brought the numbers one of the few episodes to get over a million on the past 8 seasons. On a serious note as much as ppl say they hate those storylines it always bring number the Cara storyline of her cheating and Abram arriving was also a massive draw on bloodlines almost got a million that season. When they are done right not the boring thing that Tori/Fessy/Gabby gave us.
Its a fact that the ratings have gone down every time the cast is half rookies or more the exception being war of the worlds. But the promo for that season was insane plus it was the first time they did a movie theme inspiration theme. FM1 went down, FM2 a disaster at the time, Seasons 2 lost over 800k viewers between seasons., Bloodlines started slow and now this.
I don't take the high ratings for Total Madness seriously because it premiered during the start of the pandemic when everyone was starting to quarantine. A lot of shows increases in ratings at the time due to more people staying in the homes.
Total Madness was actually one of the most boring seasons ever.
I really think it's time for production to drop Josh. At least with Tori the casuals like her, but with Josh neither the die hard stans or the casuals **** with him. Literally he's just there cause the certain people in the casting department like him.

The ratings aren't a product issue. It's one thing if it premiered with high ratings and went down then you can chalk it up to that but the fact that it was low from the very beginning means it's something else

Well, War of the Worlds IS what I always refer to as the Challenge's modern masterpiece. And Wes in that season should get more flowers. I hate that he gets taken out early now. I like him til the end.
I heard Inferno 3 and Fresh Meat 2 almost got the Challenge canceled when those ratings came in. lol. Seasons 2 and Bloodlines were just not great seasons. I picture a season like Rivals 1 really popping in the ratings department because it had some of the most popular vet faces, stand out new generation faces, and a simple, great concept. Am I right?

Rivals 1 saved the show of getting cancelled. If you look at the ratings of Fresh Meat 2 and Cutthroat you would think they are good if they were airing now (******** 1 million) but at the time they were terrible since it was during the Jersey shore hype that was pulling 3-8M and Teen Mom first few seasons that were pulling 3-4M .For the exception of one episode Rivals 1 always average 1.5- 2.3M

I think they got too cocky thinking they didn't have to do anything promo wise and we would just show up and watch, among other things.
