Addiction is a disease. And the people who love addicts are just doing the best they can. Going no contact can kill just as easily as enabling. Sorry for your struggles. I have lost people to addiction as well. There is always so much guilt and pain and relief even. It's terribly hard.
Growing up I used to think addiction was a weak mindset instead of disease, but unfortunately I've learned that it actually is a horrible disease and it's very hard as a bystander not knowing the most effective way to help and you are right the guilt and pain afterwards is so hard thinking back to what you could and should have done differently.
