Ehh, I don't care about the challenges, just keep in The Real World Concept the same. Look what happened when the ****ed up Road Rules, lol. I mean with the challenges, they can only get better. A change could potentially mess up RW forever, a la Road Rules.
Well to be fair, RR had been doing bad since Semester at Sea. They added the vote off concept to try and make it more interesting and it worked till X-Treme. Idk what they were thinking with Viewers Revenge.

No RR was doing bad before Viewers Revenge. VR was one last attempt to bring it back and it failed. I don't think any of the vote-off's did well.
Cannot, I agree. I think they could do great things with The Real World based on their experience in doing other things. But I don't think they'll change much.

I thought I read somewhere that South Pacific did pretty good.

It did alright but RR was already failing..which is why the ended it with Extreme. RR was long gone, and then VR came like two years later just to see if it would do well again.

The problem with the vote off concept is that it came right after Survivor aired. RR and RW were no longer setting trends, they were following them. The only thing that made RW popular in the 90s is that it was relevant.
If RW returned to the ratings it had back around Chicago season (4.5 m), it would be pulling in $3 million profit/episode. But RW can't pull those kinds of numbers without a) expanding the viewer base, b) reducing costs, c)improving product placement (there's a lot more they can do than advertise clubs and hotel spaces). They are trying to expand the viewer base now by shaking up the cast, experimenting with social media, and doing voter-based cast selection. The problem is BMP hasn't been setting trends with any of this stuff...they aren't breaking new ground...just following what other reality shows are doing. They want big numbers, they need to take some real risks and try some real social experiments...but those risks for big gains can also result in messups and potential to mess up a good thing.
Man, I'd love to be a fly on the wall in some of their concept/strategy conversations. Time will tell...

Wow that's a great observation, and true for the matter. By the time they started doing the RR "vote-offs" I was like "Ok this has been done..."
I honestly think that VR would have done better had they not had that ridiculous concept. If they'd just done another RR season like the rest of them in a cool location, it may have fared better.

I remember watching the episode when they announced "vote-offs" and I rolled my eyes and stopped watching the show bc it was stupid. Bad call from the Execs.
But the thing is, even though people would be voted off, new people would be brought into the scenario, adding a different twist.
Anyway, I think the challenges can't get much worse. Seriously, they already cast the same people every challenge, maybe a new production company will be more willing to bring back MORE veterans and perhaps come up with new ideas rather than a Duel 97 with the same cast from Duel 88 but with the most recent Real World cast.
Long story short, you can't fall from the bottom of the pit, but you can climb your way back up.
Do you guys think that if they get new casting directors, they won't cast eight drunken wild/whorish people? I hope that they bring more diversity, assuming they get new casting directors.

I don't think anybody really knows anything definite at this point.
Nicalvaro, I think that casting has gone up lately, but I think that casting may change.
Agreed. Hollywood, Brooklyn, and Cancun all had good casts.

Dartagnan is right. There is no way to tell.
Judging by the Cancun ratings, my guess is that casting will be tweaked. How much do they change? No way to tell right now. Has BMP finished crafting a 4 year strategy yet and has the strategy been pitched to MTV? If so, does Talpa approve of it or do they want to make changes?
Right now, BMP probably has a short list of cities and cast stories they want to tell over the next 4 years. Bc BMP did a large amount of open castings calls this year, I would imagine they have an idea of some potential people they would like to consider (nothing firm yet...which has helped them narrow down to list of cities).
The city selection for Season 24 will tell us a lot about the direction they are deciding to take the show for the next few years. With all the musicians they've had on the show the past 3 seasons, I wouldn't be surprised to see Nashville as a top contender. But you know, I wouldn't be surprised to see them head back to San Fran either...especially if they get a very good socially responsible cast. Montreal, Portland, and Charleston are all probably up for consideration too. I'm willing to take bets that Season 24 is located in one of the 5 that I just mentioned. ;-) Any takers?
