In 2005/2006, there wasn't as much competition. Also DVR's weren't in majority of households, online watching wasn't as prevalent, same with on demand. Plus Nielsen Ratings is outdated and unreliable. Have the ratings gone down, of course the show is on its 28th season. It got renewed so apparently it's doing well enough.

We need to get more people, specifically people with Nielsen boxes, to watch the show.
That means nothing as far as it being in it's 28th season. Many shows are in the same boat but are still refreshing. And still have good ratings.
I'm confuse at how low the rating was cause Nia, Avery, and Johnny where trending worldwide and in the US trends. :/
I'm confuse at how low the rating was cause Nia, Avery, and Johnny where trending worldwide and in the US trends. :/
Twitter activity is not indicative of ratings. I never see anything for NCIS trending yet it is the #1 show on TV (after football). Twitter activity is generally indicative of the 12-25 demo and how many people have a strong opinion on what they are watching.
I don't know how many people knew all that was going down last week. I didn't know that crazy fight was going to break out. With the way they ended the episode lets see how next weeks ratings look, that might be a better indication if Nia's crazy antics have any positive affect. Word of mouth will have gotten around some and people may check out a rerun, or video online and may be more tempted to tune in next week to see the fallout.

But some shows that have trended (not all) have proven to at least have some good ratings by there standards, such as The Walking Dead, Love and Hip Hop, Honey Boo Boo, BGC, etc etc.
I'm shocked about the ratings. How did last week's episode get better ratings? It was about Jessica and Marlon -_- The thing I find funny about this, though, is that Nia's always talking about how she brought the show back to life and saved the series. Yeah, that's just not true.
Next week I think will be the episode to look at considering what happened at the end of this one and the cliffhanger it's given
This is the finale coming up right?
I'm confuse at how low the rating was cause Nia, Avery, and Johnny where trending worldwide and in the US trends. :/
Camille, can you stop talking about twitter trends now? Haha ;) If it makes anyone feel better the ratings were better than a recent episode of A Show With Vinny and Bad Girls Club All Stars.
This is the finale coming up right?
It's weird how it doesn't even feel like a finale coming up esp. with this cliffhanger.
Speaking of Puck I am glad he grew out of being downright nasty to folks.
But didn't grow out of drinking and driving with his child in the car....
I'm shocked about the ratings. How did last week's episode get better ratings? It was about Jessica and Marlon -_- ...
If you look at some of the social science research on TV viewing patterns, you will see that a current week's ratings are often reflective of that was shown the prior week For example, if 100 people watched, for example, Show A, episode 8 last week and reaction to that episode was unexciting for whatever reason, and 30 of those 100 left the show before the end of the hour, then a large majority of those 30 who quit watching will not subsequently return for Show A, episode 9, even if they later learn that in the last five minutes something dramatic happened that will carry over to the next episode. This represents a new loss of viewers for Show A, Ep 9, even before it airs. Given that 1000 original potential viewers had already made a discretionary choice to view or not view Show A before the season began, then even with significant incentive (the fights), 900 had already made a decision not to watch Show A at all. To move any from this group of 900 to the "Definitely will watch Ep 9 next week" category requires a powerful incentive (See Festinger's theory of cognitive dissonance) to change their behavior. Since the information about the next episode of Show A only appears internally on its own network, it is nearly impossible to reach beyond the 900 available viewers to the millions of others with TVs. Thus, marketeers must overcome the threshold disincentive of some of the potential 930 who do not plan to watch. The original 30 are the most difficult to bring back (according to Festinger because they election to quit), while perhaps 5% of the 900 are vulnerable to your message and will consider returning. At best in this scenario, 45 new viewers might be attracted if the marketing is successful. Festinger also tells us that peers are important in the opinion change process. Here twitter and other social media can have success, but, the message given must nearly always be either positive or very personal -- and consistent. In this instance, Nia must appear to be likeable. Her "hurricane" twitter formula actually loses her "votes" -- the people who like that persona are already watching and are going nowhere. Playing to that core audience is what very popular shows and politician trolling for money do, and RW today is not one of those popular shows. Those 45 "already not watching but could return" group might be a 50% success rate at best. So, rounding up, 23 of the 900 watch as do @ three from the 30 who left the week prior, for a total of 26 new or new-returning" viewers. Bottom line: you will likely have a net loss of four viewers against the original 100. Now multiply each number by 10,000 and you're in the ballpark. This is one scenario for why the ratings didn't improve. {this is very close to a final exam question I vaguely recall from a masters in communications class I attended at the Univ of Oklahoma several decades ago. Raise your hand if all of this just flat bored you to tears. I won't be offended.}
He's not the first or the last so its whatever to be honest. I wish he came back again.
LOL, well okay if you feel that way that's fine. Hopefully you won't do that if you have children (or if you don't.)
I feel like a nerd right now, but honestly, I just read the whole thing and actually found it very interesting.
Thanks, I think... ~~ So over the last couple of days I've exchanged twitter messages with a fan of Nia who goes by the SN "Jack Jack." He says
"@TheRealNiaMoore definitely got these ratings as high as they ever been" @TheRealNiaMoore the Real World hasn't been good since Key West, the seasons are always a hit & miss. This season is a HIT! @TheRealNiaMoore compared to their regular 2k views per season, let Nia shine
Guess he doesn't realize that his Nia shines -- like a 15 watt bulb on a 15 minute timer about to expire. I didn't have the heart to tell him that 2k is only 2000 people or that Nia has not attracted any substantial number of new viewers. #mathproblems?

I'm so disgusted with the RW with their addition with Nia. I cannot believe anyone can support someone like her. I cannot describe how upset I was with that episode.

Besides this is usually the part where somebody comes and says we don't know the show and it's their edit. lol.
For the week ending June 26, 2005: Real World XVI (Austin) 2,984,000 in the 12-34 demographic. May 12, 2011 Las Vegas 2 2,070,000 in the 18-49 demo. Key West (unknown date) 3,300,000 Bottom line: People have been cheering because Nia got the show over the 1.0M mark..LOL
LOL. Wasn't the Las Vegas 1 finale like over 6 million views?
LOL. Wasn't the Las Vegas 1 finale like over 6 million views?
I belive the highest rated episode was the Chicago finale, which got around 5.5 million.
Yeah Vegas is usually touted as being the highest rated RW season, but if I'm not mistaken (and I very well could be), it was actually Chicago. I imagine Vegas was second though.
I think Vegas 2 was much better then Vegas 1

Well at least it's over a million so that's a good thing I suppose.
So much for the legions of supports on twitter that were supposed to make Nia a star. ****
You what I find funny here. Before the season started almost every producer/casting director was like "Nia is such a unique person, she'll bring ratings, realness into the Real World blablabla". How couldn't they see that Nia won't get too many viewers exiting for the season. I feel like they were almost more delusional as Nia.
I think next season will be the last. Like I seriously cant think of whatelse would bring in viewers.
I really used to love the Real World but after this freakshow of a season I hope they shut it down for good. They had an opportunity to be something different than the Honey Boo Boo's and Bad Girls Club type shows and go back to the days where they actually pushed social issues like AIDS, Race and Gay rights but they went for the low brow sell out instead. Time to put the show out of it's misery.
I think next season will be the last. Like I seriously cant think of whatelse would bring in viewers.
Maybe they could try doing something different to the other trashy shows rather than copying them.
