Anyone else going to watch V tonight? It has been on my list since it was announced and along with a great cast, the reviews have been glowing. The only real downside is they will only air 4 teaser episodes and not resume until March after the Winter Olympics. That split strategy has killed good shows in the past (i.e. Jericho and almost Lost.)
V is an upcoming American science-fiction television series about alien invaders in human disguise. Giant spaceships appear over 29 major cities of the world, and Anna, the beautiful and charismatic leader of the extra-terrestrial "Visitors", claims to come in peace. As a small number of humans begin to doubt the sincerity of the seemingly benevolent Visitors, FBI counter-terrorism agent Erica Evans discovers that the aliens have spent decades infiltrating human governments and businesses, and are now in the final stages of their plan to take over the planet. Erica joins the resistance movement, which includes Ryan, a Visitor sleeper agent who wants to save humanity. However, the aliens have won favor among the people of Earth by curing a variety of diseases, and have recruited Earth's youth—including Erica's son—to serve them unknowingly as spies.
[via wikipedia] YouTube - ABC "V" TV SERIES PILOT PROMO TRAILER

I actually didn't have any interest in this until I read the synopsis above. I think I'll have to check it out, nothing else for me on Tuesday's right now.
This is the show with Juliet from Lost, right? I was thinking about checking it out, but I might just catch it online in a few days [strike]at work[/strike] when I have a few minutes to spare.
This is the show with Juliet from Lost, right?
Yes, and Scott Wolf from Party of Five.
Yes, and Scott Wolf from Party of Five.
ZOMG not Kelley's husband!! :p Party of Five...is that like a restaurant show? :D
You know I'll be there! I am a sucker for anything sci-fi and I already reminisced with the original mini series earlier this week. I remember loving this show when I was young... I hope they do it right!

I really enjoyed this show. It's not the usual premise that I would be drawn to, but I really liked it. There were a few good set-ups that I'm interested to see play out: Finding out who are hidden V's (like the FBI lady's friend, and Morris Chestnut's character), the reporter's conflict with being a well-liked / respected anchor or finding the real truth about the V's, and seeing whose side the masses will take as to whether the V's are saviors or terrorists. Overall very good IMO, and I'm glad the reviews have been as well.
I'm gonna have to watch it online, but I am really excited for it. I was hooked for these 4 teasers at least when I heard Morena Baccarin (Anna) and Alan Tudyk (Dale) were gonna be in it (Firefly reunion what up?!). Plus I liked the original mini-series and thought it would be interesting to see how it is adapted/re-made. Also for anyone who has seen the original series:
Do you think they will try and tackle the gerbil scene? I think they kinda have to and it better be crazy!!
I enjoyed the premiere. The first few episodes will be pivotal. I can see this going in an awesome direction and I can also see it digging through sci-fi coffins for material. Hopefully they have a good staff of writers with fresh ideas to bring to a classic premise. If you have not seen the premiere of V yet, it is streaming free on Amazon and available free for download on iTunes.
I was just about to post that Bacchus! I downloaded it on iTunes last night. I wasn't blown away by the premier but I do think they did a decent job and I want to see more. I really do think it should have been a 2 hour pilot. Everything felt too rushed. Like they had to cut a lot of the back story to squeeze in as much as they could. I wish we had learned more about the relationship between Ryan (Morris Chestnut/soon-to-be-fiance/secret V guy) and the rebellion leader guy. Same with the relationship between Elizabeth Mitchell and her partner/secret evil V, Dale (I was kinda ****** they killed him since everything seems to end with Alan Tudyk getting stabbed with re-bar in the chest!! grrr). I think I am gonna be annoyed with the teenage son/mother storyline, but really how can you make a teenage kid who becomes devoted to hot alien girls so he won't listen to reason not annoying? I really liked Morena as Anna and her quick double blinks were a nice hint of the creepy lizard underneath. If it stays strong through these first 4 episodes I'll definitely stick with it.
This is exactly the same area of the story arc that I am concerned with...
Yeah, not really looking forward to that story :( I like the guy who played him and I like Elizabeth Mitchell but I was pretty disappointed when they decided to go that route. I guess it is kind of inevitable at first though. I'll at least wait it out to see where they gone once he finds out what they really are. Also, did the writers not get that in the original the tagging of "V" was part of the protests against them NOT as a sign of hope or whatever they said? That was a pretty big misstep on their part in my opinion.
So far, so good! I agree with the fact that the premiere should've been 2 hours. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Morena and Alan. Morena is so captivating, demanding, and extremely convincing! I love seeing her in the spotlight. Yep - son has potential to become annoying. Last night's episode was a little slow, but I'm totally strapped in and ready for take off. I hope its as ****** as FlashForward, but if not, FF has been killin' it!

I liked last night's epi as well. But I have a question. I might have missed something because I had to step away for a few minutes. But, Morris Chestnut's character was seeing the mechanic guy to get his arm fixed. Then he collapsed and they went to commercial. I was thinking he was maybe killed/poisoned, but then he was back later in the episode and talking to the mechanic guy again. What happened?
I was thinking he was maybe killed/poisoned, but then he was back later in the episode and talking to the mechanic guy again. What happened?
He drugged him as he didn't know if he could trust him.
Oh. That was it? Then he just let him leave and decided he could trust him?
Well, the mechanic drugged him so he could get away. Then the mechanic called him from a safe distance. I assume because he is a traitor he is ultra paranoid.

Is V slowly lulling anyone else to sleep? I have a feeling this show is going to tank, when comes back after going off the air next week for what is basically an eternity (March.) Sure, there are some cool reveals along the way, but the overall pacing is slow and the storyline is so telegraphed I almost feel like I could get away with watching 10 minutes a week to keep up. I'll still watch the mid season finale, but I if something better crops up between now and March, I might very well move on.
I was about to post the same thing. The premier was good, but these last two episodes just haven't captured my attention like the first one. I don't know what it is. I almost felt like FF to see if I could find the good parts lol.
I haven't seen the latest episode yet since it's not posted on Hulu until Friday or something, but yeah moving pretty slowly. If you are going to have a slow pace like this I want some good, deep character development and smart dialogue and I'm not getting as much of that as I want. I am excited that they have Scott Rosenbaum from Chuck as the new show runner! Hopefully he will bring a little spice to the show and all the behind the scenes drama from before will be worked out. So I will at least tune in for the first few episodes in March to see where he takes it.
If you are going to have a slow pace like this I want some good, deep character development and smart dialogue and I'm not getting as much of that as I want.
For me it is even worse than just not getting character development. Instead, I can see from a mile out where they are going with said character development, hate it and they are dragging me through it in slow motion as I go kicking and screaming, lol.

Sort of like how the US Office felt the first season. They just basically recreated the UK Office and it felt done because it was, then the second season came and they made Michael different than David and worked with the dynamics of the new office staff and it was 10x better. I am hoping V will be like that when it returns in March and not be so predictable and tired. Not gonna lie though, I'll probably continue watching at least until Morena and Alan are off the show.
Blah - I'm bored. Tonight's episode was also slow. And who's idiotic decision was it to delay new episiodes until March!?!? That's so dumb. I'll probably also forget this show ever existed and move on. Fringe and FlashForward are keeping me pleeeenty happy.
I can see them getting the beginning of the Resistance set up, which they needed to show in order to get people ready for March. Tyler is the informant waiting to happen and I spotted it in the premiere episode. I think things will ramp up once the series returns in March. They've been setting the groundwork so far and the perfect way to end the first season is for the Vs to be outed as lizards under their makeup or that they have our demise in mind. It is the perfect jumping off point and will hopefully not end the series in a cliffhanger like the original. The original TV series slowly got worse as the writing was poorly handled and the cast was slowly (and obviously) no longer mentally involved with their characters. Things were somewhat interesting but the Elizabeth became the de facto deus ex machina for any situation. It was good to see Ashmore in the last few episodes play Martin's twin Philip but on the whole the series was done early in the second season. I would actually steal the opening credits music and style from the original's second season for the new show. It had a sense of resonance without being flashy. I think the new show needs a Ham Tyler like character (covert operations expert) to jump start the Resistance more than they are currently consisting of with a 5th Columnist, priest, law enforcement officer, and "loony". They are really missing that Ham Tyler and a scientist they would need. Hopefully, they will find them in March because the "loony" role will quickly become expendable once they are revealed.
I may give up on V. I wasn't impressed before it went off the air for like 5 months. idk...maybe I'll watch 1 and have that be the deciding factor, but meh.
