For all we know, they could've just lost to the better team, or production could've even done something stupid like the past few finals. There's no way of telling until it's said or we see it.

Shane lost because he faced Steve who was beating two of the strongest girls in show history in a final the season before. Da'vonne was probably the reason shane got to the final in the first place so even if she "lost it for him" there wouldn't be a final for him to lose without her.

Neither Da'Vonne nor Shane have competed on The Challenge since 2018, so there's no way to tell what they can do now until we see it. Some of ya'll are just biased towards Shane because he can swim and isn't brain dead. We've seen people built for finals that have lost them over and over again.
Not to mention Da'Vonne has been working out more often now than she was back then, so it's not like she couldn't have improved over the last few years. Neither Day nor Shane are elite competitors anyway, so putting one over the other is pointless.
