Better than any other MTV show lol Atleast they have been consistent and doavobe average on the 12-30 demographic.
Thats true. But I was hoping for an increase with that cliffhanger they pulled last week.
It did go up a little , it was at 752 last week.
yeah, but not the type I was expecting.
No one is happier than Bananas.
MTV's problem remains they focus on 12-20 instead of 24-34...for an 11pm show early teens aren't the target
mhmmm this episode did better than 2 episodes with bananas in it and almost the same as another episode with him. Only 3 episodes of this entire season so far have done better than this week. MTV is struggling as a whole not just in the 12-20 demographic.
We'll see what the rating are for the episode after the one where he returns
MTV is struggling as a whole because they're trying to focus on 12-20 which hurts them with everyone else
They are doing avobe average on that demographic or atleast real world is doing.
But this ratings downturn comes just three weeks before the Viacom stockholders meeting on Mar 16 in Miami Beach and serier ratings v. profitability is what many of the professional fund managers look at. There are a lot of nervous people at MTV after the budget cuts for programming/advertising and MTV has not found a way to successfully monitize online viewing. Hopefully there will be some senior Viacom execs who are convinced that RW and the challenge can achieve greater profitibility, but some of the poorly rated current MTV shows are actually raking in decent cash since they cost so little to produce.

Do you have any idea why MTV still seems to not care about the challenge? Both The Challenge and The Real World are pulling the highest numbers MTV has right now, yet they continue to get no promotion/advertisement and they never replay episodes throughout the week like they do Ridiculousness, Awkward, and Eye Candy. You would think they would show their highest rated show the most throughout the week...

I know Susanne Daniels cares a great deal, but when her budget is cut from above and is told to do more/better with less funding, her hands are tied. She has to see a clear message in Van Toffler's unexpected and shocking "departure" as President of MTV Networks; but, it's not clear to me or to the writers at the trades whether or not this is good or bad news for Daniels and her vision.
I know that BMP is feeding the current RW cast the BS that they are #1 now on MTV, as evidenced on their twitter accounts, but they know absolutely nothing about the business of TV. Being #1 is meaningless unless you only comare yourself to your immediate mtv offerings. Stockholders remember when being #1 on MTV meant Jersey Shore type ratings and consequent profits resulting in higher stock prices. Just look at the success of shows on other networks that you and I would once have laughed at as competition for MTV. Today they are killing MTV. Even silly shows on VH-1 are killing MTV's best now. You won't last long in any business if you aren't competiting to be #1 one all the time. Viacom created its own expectations in the marketplace to attract investors and those investor want more. As I've written previously, there are two ways to increase profits that result in increased share prices: 1) reduce costs and/or 2) increase ratings. Daniels is suffering under the reduced budget yet is still expected to fix the ratings problem. Frankly, short term stockholders, which represent the majority of major funds that own MTV, don't really care how the profits are achieved. They only care about price and dividends now and in the near term.
V1man is seems that this is the only thread that you're keeping an eye on here, so I just want to ask you if you know what were the forces behind the casting of AYTO people on this challenge? We speculate that this was a "last minute" change made by MTV, do you know anything about this subject? Was it because they wanted another twist to the season? Did they really expected that the show that had ratings below TRW/The Challenge to give the Challenge some numbers? Why didn't they approached Road Rules people like Rachel/Darrel that seemed to be an alternative? Do they "care" about the fan reaction that casting four people from a different show on MTV in a cast of 28 people created this reactions on social media and this site? Was BMP happy with MTV's decision on casting the AYTO people? What is the future about this? Should we fear that other reality tv shows from MTV will get a chance to participate on a challenge?

Good questions, but I don't have solid enought knowledge to answer you and I don't want to speculate. I've heard conflicting stories from inside MTV.
You are correct. This is about the only thread I read because I don't watch RW unless someone brings a specific clip to my attenion -- haven't been a regular viewer since Las Vegas and that was the only season I'd watched completely since before Cancun. I can't yet bring myself to watch the current challenge but hope to eventually be able to watch the first few episodes in the company of a couple of cast members friends who understand why I can't watch. I'm attached to the legacy of RW, RR and the challenges and I hate the ratings implosion that is occurring at MTV. Most know I blame BMP for some things and not MTV where I had a solid relationship until The Ruins.
Other than fixing some contract language with other production companies, there is no reason MTV can't cast people from their other shows, but I can't see that improving the ratings enough to make a difference. AYTO casting hasn't helped. MTV can't go outside to other networks because that show concept at one time known as "Battle of the Network Stars" is actually registered with the Writers Guild by someone outside of MTV.
(BTW, I currently plan to be at the Viacom stockholders meeting in mid-March, in case anyone else with a vevmo affiliation will be there.)

But if they can do this, why can't The Challenge & The Real World do this anymore? Smh
Well, not taking anything away from Catfish ratings but last season premiered got 2,006,000 Millions to 1,406,000 this season (good numbers for MTV)...They losed over 600k viewers from one season to the next that's a lot, it shows that MTV is struggling as a whole even if the ratings were descent.

It was also hella promoted on MTV and other networks. Smh @ them never doing the same for The Real World and Challenge!

Yeah I always see commercials of other MTV shows on other networks, but never RW/The Challenge. Not to mention hardly any reruns. I'm really confused by that. I feel like The Challenge is the type of show that can attract any type of viewer since it is so many things. A reality show, game show, competition, etc.
I feel like if they can come up with a commerical that's similar to something like this, it would get anyone's attention. I'm no professional when it comes to stuff like this, just a suggestion that I think can help.
I feel like I've said this before but The Real World and The Challenge should be MTV's top priorities when it comes to promoting. Both shows have been on since the '90s and a lot of die-hard fans still continue to watch even though the promotion sucks. It's really disappointing how MTV treats these shows.
I think it's doing alright for a show that is on at a horrible time, has no replays running, or really any major support from MTV. It's clear from this season that there's a strong fanbase that supports the Challenge, which is why it's been running for so long with several threats of canceling. But The Challenge isn't like any other of MTV's shows, so I see why they don't want to promote it. I remember the Retro Real World marathon they did to promote one of the last few seasons where they showed the original Real World: Las Vegas. So many people on my timeline talked about it.
Earlier this season, I tweeted out some of my favorite moments from CT and so many people responded to it. I had no idea how many people who followed me watched The Challenge at one point or another. Exes should've been an easy concept. They could've replayed the Real World season and the original Battle of the Exes, maybe with some commentary. They weren't even available on MTV.com prior to The Challenge airing.

It's frustrating.
I thought they were going to air the original Battle of the Exes and Free Agents seasons two weeks before the airing of Exes II. Someone on here posted a picture of those seasons being replayed on MTV around December 22-23. I remember being excited thinking this is going to be great promotion but they never showed it. I wonder if it would've helped and got more viewers tuned into this season.
As of last week Real World 31 was happening. Real world has done better than ayto 2 and challenge. I am assuming since both are speculated to film on the summer they decide to announce it.
While, Real World still needs 2-3 months of casting then filming. There is no way season 31 is filming any time before august. The casting page has been updated, no casting calls has been made yet.
Ratings are bad. This is renewal marks either the revival season or the final season.
This means that Viacom has been listening to the new ideas Daniels is considering. I read this announcement as her job is secure at the moment -- a vote of confidence before the meeting. Hopefully, she will follow through with an interesting change to the Challenge format.

Not without badly burning my source(s), which I would never do. There may be some others who are aware, but I don't think anyone is comfortable talking since I think the critical decisions have not been made; and, frankly, until last week, I don't think BMP had any idea of what changes MTV is thinking about.

Never knew spoilers were allowed in a ratings thread.
What do you expect same person did it last season as well...
They are doing avobe average on that demographic or atleast real world is doing.
Here the ratings for episode 8:

1. Yeah, I did it this year. I didn't even realize it when I wrote it. I edited it now that I saw your post
2. I don't believe I did it last year but anything is possible.
Honestly, at this point I don't even think it is a spoiler as it is seen in the previews and it has been tweeted and retweeted and retweeted

It looks like Catfish was able to do something than other shows on MTV hasn't been able to do on the past 6 months on MTV:

Wow, that's a lot of viewers! Catfish has always done well in the ratings. Hope The Challenge does better ratings wise next season.
Yess Catfish!

I'm beyond excited about the renewal news. To think of reality television without The Real World or The Challenge is too much for me.
