Real World: Kicking the Bucket Soon?

I don't think their new line up would work. People are use to seeing certian things. Why try to change a good thing?

I'm really hoping they dont cancel it. But if they do, Im sure they will make a new season in a few years.

I don't think they'll cancel it anytime soon since ratings have went up.

There is focus group data suggesting that the top half of the prime demographic for MTV has a preference for the challenges over RW. It is the 12-22 group which prefers RW. This younger half of the demographic represents future growth for MTV while the "aging" group represents future loses to Oxygen, A&E, VH1, Discovery, Bravo and other cable networks with new reality programming. Attempting to build an audience around a challenge with a demo that primarily watches only one show on the network is really only an invite to being asked to turn in your key to the executive bathroom. The production crew for VH1's addition of its first challenge format (I Love Money) was comprised of veterans from BMP. One could argue that the challenge transition has already begun. In it's first outing, though, VH1's challenge captured only about half the audience of MTV's challenges and only about 1/3 of the audience of most challenge episodes in which Beth S. appeared. VH1 will have to grow some interesting and talented reality performers if they seriously want a loyal audience.

What will RWers do with themselves post season without the challenges?

Wow, I hope the challenge has good ratings because I don't know what I will do without them. I find the challenges more entertaining than the real world.

I hope RW sticks around - Hollywood was a step in the right direction (minus he who must not be named, of course) and Brooklyn sounds just as good! Glad to see Vegas didn't destroy the series, after all!

I seem to remember that the Gauntlet 3 did quite well--would it have to do the same or better? It's interesting that BMP is considering returning to an old model of the Real World if need be--there's an old model for the challenges as well, when you think about it, that was maybe a bit more focused on teamwork than backstabbing and such.

The Duel was about 2.6 in the 18-34 demographic. Surprisingly, in the episodes of the The Duel in which Beth appeared, it beat Laguna Beach in the ratings.
