Real World: Kicking the Bucket Soon?
From the MTV thread of the 16 new reality shows. "While MTV pioneered reality series with 1992's "The Real World," that genre has become ubiquitous, so the network is offering a slate that avoids the backbiting and ****hery of most nonfiction fare." With that being said...how many more seasons of RW do you think it has left before BMP/MTV calls it quits? What about the challenges? Discuss. Edit: First time poster, glad to break my Vevmo cherry :)
I don't think their new line up would work. People are use to seeing certian things. Why try to change a good thing?
I'm really hoping they dont cancel it. But if they do, Im sure they will make a new season in a few years.
I don't think they'll cancel it anytime soon since ratings have went up.
From the other thread in the Entertainment section:
The change in focus of the RW: Brooklyn from being ALL about partying and hookups to the cast having serious goals to pursue is in line with the new thinking.
Translation: When planning for the RW Brooklyn season, BMP was fully aware of the changes underway for MTV's programming. In conjunction with MTV's executives, BMP has already adapted RW Brooklyn to comport with the announcement. Should MTV's change of path not succeed, then BMP will simply revert to one of it's older models for the show. The show will continue, according the BMP owner, Jonathan Murray. A more compelling question is whether the challenges will survive. Justin Booth, the BMP challenge executive producer, did inform the cast of the challenge airing in April that absent very good ratings, the challenges WILL NOT be renewed.

I def prefer the challenges over the REAL WORLD. :(. I guess no one asked me though.
I def prefer the challenges over the REAL WORLD. :(. I guess no one asked me though.
Actually, MTV Networks did ask (just not you specifically). There is focus group data suggesting that the top half of the prime demographic for MTV has a preference for the challenges over RW. It is the 12-22 group which prefers RW. This younger half of the demographic represents future growth for MTV while the "aging" group represents future loses to Oxygen, A&E, VH1, Discovery, Bravo and other cable networks with new reality programming. Attempting to build an audience around a challenge with a demo that primarily watches only one show on the network is really only an invite to being asked to turn in your key to the executive bathroom. The production crew for VH1's addition of its first challenge format (I Love Money) was comprised of veterans from BMP. Check out the I Love Money crew backgrounds here. (FYI: VH1 is part of MTV Networks). One could argue that the challenge transition has already begun. In it's first outing, though, VH1's challenge captured only about half the audience of MTV's challenges and only about 1/3 of the audience of most challenge episodes in which Beth S. appeared. VH1 will have to grow some interesting and talented reality performers if they seriously want a loyal audience.

What will RWers do with themselves post season without the challenges?
What will RWers do with themselves post season without the challenges?
They will just move over to VH1 to compete against all the ***** and ******. Some will feel right at home. :curtianpeek:

Wow, I hope the challenge has good ratings because I don't know what I will do without them. I find the challenges more entertaining than the real world.
The very angelic Colie excluded, of course. :D
I could not of worded that better myself! Such an angel. The Real World Denver was scripted, wasn't it?
They will just move over to VH1 to compete against all the ***** and ******. Some will feel right at home. :curtianpeek:
I really think the majority of them are too good for the Vh1 crew.

I hope RW sticks around - Hollywood was a step in the right direction (minus he who must not be named, of course) and Brooklyn sounds just as good! Glad to see Vegas didn't destroy the series, after all!
Wasn't Vegas one of the highest rated seasons?
Thats exactly the problem.

I seem to remember that the Gauntlet 3 did quite well--would it have to do the same or better? It's interesting that BMP is considering returning to an old model of the Real World if need be--there's an old model for the challenges as well, when you think about it, that was maybe a bit more focused on teamwork than backstabbing and such.
Thats exactly the problem.
haha right after i sent it i was like "Well....maybe it was Austin that ruined it...". **** "groupie drawer" or whatever. WHOOOOOO do they think they are? sickening.

The Duel was about 2.6 in the 18-34 demographic. Surprisingly, in the episodes of the The Duel in which Beth appeared, it beat Laguna Beach in the ratings.
