Real World: San Diego (2011) - Ratings
I hope it's okay if I just start this thread, since the first ratings have just been announced: REAL WORLD XXVI MTV 10:00 PM 1.949 (Viewership) 1.2 (Adults 18-49) via
Did better than the first episode of Vegas! And had the most viewers for regular cable programing..not bad, not bad.
1.949 scoring a 1.2. It topped everything that wasn't sports Wednesday so really good start. But I have a feeling those ratings with skyrocket down.
I'm actually really surprised by the numbers. I was thinking they would be a lot worse, but I'd say they're off to a good start. Like LaneV95 said, though, I have a feeling that the numbers won't get much higher from here on out.
Yea, those are good numbers. I don't think this season will have the same energy Vegas did though, I think the ratings will fall like you guys suggested.

Good ratings I guess. I'll always be unhappy with the show's rating so long as Jersey Shore is getting so many views and is a horrible show.
Good ratings I guess. It started around 8.5 million and it's down to 6.4 million still 6 mill for a cable show is great it's gonna probably keep going down and JS5 might be the last JS.
But I have a feeling those ratings with skyrocket down.
I seriously doubt it, lol because we got Pyscho Frank versus most of the people in the house.
I seriously doubt it, lol because we got Pyscho Frank versus most of the people in the house.
Exactly. In my Introduction to Mass Communications class, we talked about Wednesdays episode and how RW has impacted our society vs. jersey shore. Surprisingly, about 80 percent of the people in my class preferred Real World to JS and just about everyone said they watched it so I think ratings will be like New Orleans where it slowly goes up and up and up..

You're right most people prefer TRW to JS. I mean Snooki and the gang have their goofy moments and quotes of the week but other than that they don't really add much. Whereas The Real World is a social experiment (not the words I was looking for by the way) with different types of people from a wide range of backgrounds.

That's interesting because (practically) all my friends know of Jersey Shore, but only like 10 know of The Real World. And only 3-4 actually watch it. But I'm glad that those numbers are different in other places, though!
How old are you're friends, and what's their IQ score? That might be the reason.
*your And no need to be rude. I can't see how there's a correlation between having a high IQ score and knowing of Jersey Shore; it's just a part of popular culture. Plus I didn't say they watched it, I said they knew of it.
First of all, it's extremely annoying that people even compare the two. Jersey shore is a fad and cartoon-like documentary where a certain heritage (Italian) is exploded for it's extremities, thus creating humor. The real world is a withstanding social experiment. You must be extremely young, because not many people over twenty have never heard of the show, since it basically pioneered all of reality TV. Of course, currently no one has not heard of jersey shore because of it's popularity, but in 19 years, (how long TRWs been on) most people won't remember snookie. Anyway, in reference to the ratings, I think this first episode did well off of Vegas and rivals success, they really revived the series, but unfortunately after watching this first episode you can quote me on saying there will be a quick demise. Unlike Vegas, which came off almost scripted, the show is very slow paced, the characters are missing a little of that genuine vulnerability, and the drama is very petty and senseless. Any drama in the future episodes just seems like a game between the guys of who can shout louder. The romance between Ashley and zack is vapid and immature, zack saying that they have "cheerleader" and "football player" personalities is spot on, I'll be extremely surprised if they're not so one dimensional the entire season. The potential for growth, change or realization is at one of the lowest with this cast. On a positive note, they seem like decent people, with a good education, just not interesting enough to keep up ratings for a whole season, I already don't care if I see the rest of the season or not and I haven't felt like that in a while.

For what it's worth (and I've decided not to watch either show)
99.4% of the US population does not watch Real World
98.4% of the US population does not watch Jersey Shore
97.3% of the US population to take an IQ test scored above ~70
I hope the above info reaches Bacchus when he has a beer in hand...
How old are you're friends, and what's their IQ score? That might be the reason.
I don't watch Jersey Shore but A LOT of people I know do watch it . It's a cultural phenomenon. That hardly means they have a low IQ or that they are lacking brain smarts. As for The Real World, pretty much everyone I talk to used to watch the show when they were younger but haven't watched the last couple of seasons. Only person I know that still watches each season is my boyfriend and I, and he only watches it cause I DVR it and turn it on when he's in the room. Last time I remember a lot of my friends watching Real World and discussing it was around Austin and Key West. Not so much anymore. Good premiere ratings but I agree with whoever said they expect the numbers to dwindle. The premiere wasn't that great nor the people very memorable and I doubt very many viewers other than the devoted watchers were on the edge of their seats waiting for the next episode. I know I wasn't.

Anyways, I’m not disagreeing with you… I never said Jersey Shore was better, or compared the format or the purpose of the two shows. I know that The Real World is a social experiment and think it is very underrated. I simply stated that Jersey Shore is better-known for people my age.
That is golden, insulting another's intelligence and making a grammar mistake in the same sentence.
Haha I know, right.
Real World is definitely more popular among young teenagers where as I feel JS is more of a young adult show. I think most of my friends started watching the RW when we were in 6th/7th grade, which would have been the Hawaii/New Orleans era. It gained some popularity when I was in 11th/12th grade once Austin came on and then I think people my age lost interest after Sydney.
I don't get it
That might be the proof some of us were looking for.
Sadly more people I know watch the Jersey Shore rather than the Real World. I have been watching the Real World and challenges for as long as I can remember. Halfway through the second season of Jersey Shore I was tired of it, 3rd season I didn't enjoy and only gave season 4 a chance because it was in another country but I'm officially out as of about 3-4 weeks ago. Jersey Shore's ratings will continue to go down and they will eventually try a new cast which will not produce the kind of numbers the original cast did. Hopefully the Real World and the challenges outlast it and continue because that is the only reality tv I watch.
A lot of people watch the Jersey Shore. No one really talks about the Real World. I enjoyed the first season of Jersey Shore but as time goes on I am growing tired of the characters.
Ouch, harsh drop: REAL WORLD XXVI MTV 10:00 PM 1224 (total viewers) 0.7 (18-49 share) via
damn.
Damn is an understatement because yesterday's episode was good. I don't understand. I hope its only because of MLB and American Horror Story premiering.
Damn is an understatement because yesterday's episode was good. I don't understand. My Prediction was right. Now for my next one this season will stay steady around 0.7-1.0 margin and about 1.2-1.6 million views I can't see this season hitting the 2 million mark but I wouldn't count it out. Next season better have a great cast and even better drama if we wanna see RW go to S30.
It's like Bunim Murray is trying to get bad ratings, of course the ratings are going to go down after that bad premiere episode. I just don't understand what they are doing, even with the challenges. I just don't get it. They used to have dailies and all of them were good footage, funny things and people acting natural in them. Then they go and give it a horrible edit and everyone is serious all the time. They're leaving out some of the best things, the down time when everyone is just joking around. There needs to be a balance. The Real World could be so much better than what it is.

I fully agree!
