I think the source of the problem with this season was the cast even though I personally love all the rookies it is time to inject new blood onto the series but it's obviously not what all the fans want. So in a perfect world the cast for this season could of been or should of been. Team St. Thomas: Trey, Laura, Robb, & Marie Team San Diego: Frank, Zach, Ashley, & Sam. Team Cancun: CJ, Jonna, Derek, & Jasmine. Team New Orleans: Knight, Jemmye, Preston, & McKenzie. Team Las Vegas: Leroy, Cooke, Dustin, & Nany. Team Austin: Danny, Melinda, Johanna, & Wes. Team DC: Ty, Mike, Callie, & Emily. Team Key West: Johnny, Tyler, Paula, & Jannelle. I think with a cast like this ratings would be much better.
Brooklyn needs to be on here for sure. How can you not have Devyn? And Sarah is one of the best girls that appeared on BOTS. Brooklyn would be so much better than New Orleans - Preston and McKenzie were literally non-factors. I'm not so sure about Janelle - I think Svetlana is a better option. And I'm kinda over Johnny. He wins too many of these. Instead of Callie, put Ashley on there. I think she would add more drama.
They should of just done it like the first battle of the seasons with a pair representing the season instead of 4 people.
They should of just done it like the first battle of the seasons with a pair representing the season instead of 4 people.
No thanks. 2 pair challenges in a row were bad enough.
They should of just done it like the first battle of the seasons with a pair representing the season instead of 4 people.
I wrote somewhere (maybe it was even from V1Man here, but I cant remember) that MTV wanted to do something new. And BMP changed it by making this challenge a four person team challenge. Apparently, because of the hatestorm of the fans that 3 out of the last four challenges were 2-team challenges.
I'm sick of the the repeated discussion about the cast, we get it, the cast was one of the reasons why this was written off even before it began. Majority watch for their favorite veterans or characters. All I would like is some effort to advertise you know... Then you can't say at least we didn't try.
They should of just done it like the first battle of the seasons with a pair representing the season instead of 4 people.
No. That would've been awful and would've invited back the same otential people who are always on.
All I would like is some effort to advertise you know... Then you can't say at least we didn't try.
Me too. And no this cast shouldn't have been written off for some people. I thought it was fine though.
I just don't understand why the rating shot up last week and then crashed this week. What are people thinking to behave that way? Meanwhile, Duck Dynasty is a cable ratings Juggernaut... *Shaking my damn head*

I am sorry, but people here always try to make excuses for this complete ratings failure, while somehow forgetting the fact, that the Challenge always had competition in some form. Now, mix this competition with an absolutely horrible cast and equally horrible challenges this is will be the outcome. And to think that people here said, that this season was going to be the best challenge season ever and how the ratings gonna skyrocket now, that they have this new cast...so yeah, I am sorry, but I told you so:on_the_quiet:

This season was doomed from the first episode. It's a fact that the more promos they run, the more reruns they show, the more viewers come in. This past episode has ONE rerun and that's Wednesday at 9pm. This past episode also had barely any, if at all, advertising. The highest rated episode of the season was in every commercial break possible. Many people think this Challenge is better, or on par, with Battle of the Exes and that did well with ratings. Call it what you want, me making excuses, I don't really care. I know that if MTV cared about with season, it would do well.

And don't get me wrong I was not even a fan of EXES (the overzealous CT/Diem saga was a huge turn-off) but the cast and the daily challenges weren't half that bad...this season's concept is also not a bad one, but a horribly executed one, where the challenges are easy to rig and the power distribution is almost non-existent.

Reruns and commercial advertising. At the beginning of the season the first episode had, I believe, 4 reruns and they were mainly at like 1 or 2 am. They advertised it well but not as well as the highest rated episode two weeks ago. I've seen people say a lot of bad things about this Challenge, but the vibe I get around here is that people like this season

That episode got a bunch of advertising and also featured a ton of drama. This week's episode got almost no advertising whatsoever. I disagree on the challenges, these missions are much better than the ones on Rivals and Exes. Only 2 were majorly affected by alliances and the logged out mission was the best in a while.
Has anyone noticed how the episodes that revolves around Team Vegas, has had some of the highest viewership?

If you want to get a more realistic vibe look things up on twitter or facebook.... People are less than thrilled... And as you said yourself they did indeed promote this season, at the beginning, yet the ratings were horrible, i guess MTV just didn´t want to invest in a sinking ship... Oh and say what ever you want, but i do believe, that the actual quality of a show is indeed an important factor in getting higher ratings.... If you like and episode you make sure to come back for more , no matter what.... if you already feel so-so about it, you may come around watching it next time if you are being reminded to do so(ie.promos)...

Just because people aren't watching it, doesn't mean it isn't a good season. Terrible shows can get great ratings and great shows can get terrible ratings. You can say that it isn't a popular season, but it has been a very good season.
Holy mackerel that's a ratings slide. Probably didn't help that this episodes challenge was a dumb inferior copy of the same thing on cutthroat, but I assumed the ratings would stay high after that epic drama with Dustin last episode.
That wasn't "epic drama" epic drama was Katie vs Veronica on the Inferno or CT vs Adam on the Duel 2. You cannot put any fight involving Frank's pathetic attempts for attention in the epic catergory unless he gets the crap beat out of him.

Nothing wrong with that, but it certainly isn´t an empirical observation. Really no need to get defensive over this, people....

As long as it gets renewed. I think the challenges are headed in a smart direction by getting some new blood and allowing them to blossom on their own on the challenges as opposed to throwing a few newbies amongst JEK.
Has anyone noticed how the episodes that revolves around Team Vegas, has had some of the highest viewership?
Those were the best episodes. I've said this on her season and I'll say it again, Nany is excellent tv. She really was the catalyst for the best drama this season. Her, Dustin, Knight and Marie really caused the most entertaining moments. Now just get these newbies on a challenge with CT and JEK and we'll see how the ratings do then.
Her, Dustin, Knight and Marie really caused the most entertaining moments. The drama was just there right from the gecko, because of the rivals and exes themes and it felt more normal and not forced. Most of the drama that Nany, Knight and Marie caused was because of that and Dustins drama was because of his gay-**** past. CT and JEK probably wouldnt talked about it anymore, since they are all cool now with his past.
Everything you guys are saying is subjective. But you cannot deny the fact that this challenge was going to be a risk and that the cast (good or bad is your own opinion) was going to be written off the second the trailer appeared on TV and viewers didn't recognize their favorite players. Some weren't going to tune in regardless if they saw a single episode or not. You don't just go from this drastic change of a cast, lose your big characters/regulars, expect viewers to give them a chance and not expect your ratings to get a beating. This is not an excuse, this is actually logical. Now to go from an increase in the ratings and not promote the next episode at all is still quite weird to me. It increased for a reason that I assume people tuned in for the drama or that it was promoted and hyped. Now how could the producers not feed off that after they got the numbers? I don't know. I didn't know what I was going to tune in to for this current episode because I didn't see a promo (still watched though).
Wow. They're playing Jersey Shore nonstop from Friday until Monday night. And they play the Challenge ONCE. No wonder ratings suck.

They were taking a Huge risk in casting..But really they wouldn't have had to do this if they didn't rely on John/Kenny/Evan/CT/Wes/Paula Etc so damn much. And also the formats on the past couple of challenges have been really limiting as far as casting went..I mean if you didn't bang anyone or didn't have a problem with anyone you weren't even considered and not everyone on these things fight and/or hooks up.

When you put Paula (for example) on 8 challenges in a row to carry your show and then all of a sudden replace the "star" of the show without there being a balance or introducing us to a new character ahead of time then viewers aren't going to be able to cope with change. People treat this like a TV show series on ABC or CBS now and that its mandatory for their favorites to return lol.
I don't want to watch tonight since my favorites have gone home, but I will just because I want the challenge to be renewed. Have been loyal to the Challenges since Battle of the Sexes 1.

I have no idea if my house has Nielsen, but I always figure that since I have a digital cable box that somehow contributes to ratings, nowadays pretty much everyone has those. Otherwise, the whole 'ratings' thing isn't really all that fair since I don't think that many people really have Nielsen boxes. Well don't expect the ratings to increase tonight. The 12/12/12 concert and Barbara Walter's 10 Most Fascinating People are on tonight. Plus, if I wasn't such a devoted Challenge fan, I have no doubt that I would be watching Miss Universe next week, but I can't and you guys have no clue how angry that makes me.
If you were a Neilsen family you'd know it
Never liked the Neilsen rating system. I assume and hope that they have a wide and diverse distribution because I know from experience that different cultures/regions are into some different shows. Can't wait until the time when the ratings detection technology catches up with the digital era. I wonder how different the ratings distribution will appear if any.
