I mean when everyone tells me its the scariest movie they've ever seen and I end up laughing a lot more than I should have, then I find it overhyped lol My favourite part of the Conjuring didn't even have to do with the main family's haunting.... it was the Warren's daughter discovering a missing Annabelle during the thunderstorm. Now THAT shit had me on the edge of my seat. So that, plus the trailers spoiling wayyy too many of the scares, it just didn't live up to my expectations. I think the directing was amazing!!! And the first trailer for the movie was simply perfection. I do want to see the Conjuring 2, but i'm keeping my expectations low this time (that way it can hopefully surprise me).
I feel The Witch got soooo misrepresented by the media... I knew from the second they started with their advertising, people were going to hate it. It was marked up as a scary Blair Witch type jumpy movie, when it should have been advertised as a slow burner (ala The Shining), because that's really what it is. It was very slow and builds very slowly. The finale could have been better, but looking back on it, I do enjoy how it turned out. It had a great story and any true lover of Horror would find something good out of it. It Follows was completely overhyped for me too... I still don't get why people loved it so much (prepares for another DF rant). The acting was mediocre.. the scares, sometimes getting it right, sometimes not. The only thing that movie really had going for it was its awesome concept! I still haven't seen The Babadook and refuse to watch it... doesn't sound like something i'd like and I presonally don't feel like forcing myself to sit through another "It Follows" scenario... trying to think of why it is so beloved (I say this as I completely contradict my earlier statement about finding at least something good... oops haha) The right person just has to give me their best convincing speech for me to watch that one lol

You should watch The Babadook. I know you asked for a good speech to be convinced to watch it, but ain't nobody got time for that.
What I can say is though, The movie is more of a psychological horror which works magnificently, so if you're looking for jumpscares and special effects the movie ain't for you, it also has a creepy tone and a feel of suspense that lasts throughout the entire film, it is metaphorically rich...I can go on and on when talking about the positives of the babadook and it may not even end so yeah, you should watch it, if not then you're really missing out.

I read the plot for Leatherface and...it looks boring. Sounds like more of a mystery movie than a slasher and I'm all for slasher flicks.
