Yeah, I'm really looking forward to that challenge, those types of challenges are usually my favourites anyways. There are just WAY too many things that are on Wednesday at 10. Honey Boo Boo (even though that's over now), American Horror Story, plus ABC was promoting the show Nashville like crazy, not sure if that one was a hit though.
Baseball playoffs too
Baseball playoffs too
Baseball playoffs don't really have an impact until the World Series.
Baseball playoffs don't really have an impact until the World Series.
Wednesday's game 3 of Yankees vs. Orioles had the most viewers of any cable show that day with 5.777 million viewers. Thursday's game had 5.155 million viewers, only slightly behind football and a good amount behind all of the debate coverage. Next Wednesday will be game 4 of the ALCS so expect that to be a big number.

If Battle of the Exes could bring in around 2M why can't this season? It isn't just what else is being aired. I mean, that can't be an excuse weekly.

Exes wasn't as big as Rivals and the last 2 RW seasons have not done well, not to mention tons of competition.
Exes started in late January after a very successful Rivals season. Exes wasn't as big as Rivals and the last 2 RW seasons have not done well, not to mention tons of competition.
If the last two seasons didn't do well then why the hell would they include both seasons on this challenge? This was simply poorly planned. Then they made it worse by having 2 of the first 4 missions being awful And, yes, I'm aware the last season started in February but there's bigger issues here than the competition. At least they'll probably be renewed regardless--hopefully they learn from this or the show won't last much longer.
This challenge sucks because the cast that's there is basically making a mockery of the competition aspect of the show. It's a couple teams making sure one of the teams in their alliance wins...and the challenges are set up where it's pretty easy to throw them one way or the other to ensure that a specific team in your alliance wins. At least in the past with like Rivals where 3 teams were together, aside from dictating the participation order, there really wasn't much that could be done as far as a team or teams being able to control the outcome of a challenge on that given day. It was still "may the best team win" for the most part. And the teams that are getting gunned for this season have no thoroughbreds that can overcome the odds & make the shows remotely intriguing by presenting a remote chance of winning.

It wasn't.
Hm ok, how was Rivals any different from that? It wasn't.
We didn't have any competitions in Rivals where they could dictate the winner. Other than possibly the one where they had to slide down the hill and bring a ball back up to the top but they threw in money for the winning team as a way to make sure everyone tried to win it. Alliances are fine--they're actually great--but these missions have been a joke
Hm ok, how was Rivals any different from that? It wasn't.
Because it's the rookies doing it this time ;) It's about time the Vets got what was coming for them. I just with Johnny was on this challenge so he could get thrown in every time.
Because it's the rookies doing it this time ;) It's about time the Vets got what was coming for them. I just with Johnny was on this challenge so he could get thrown in every time.
On Rivals, they were pretty much all vets, and they could only determine the order. There wasn't a Challenge where they could force CT and Adam to finish last.
The presence of an alliance is not the problem. The problem is the way this challenge is set up has been giving the alliance way too much power. The 2nd and 4th challenges were "riggable" and the power team also gets to choose the "type" of elimination in addition to what team goes in and who represents each team if no one volunteers.
People do realize that on Rivals there were two rookie teams--one made the final without going into an elimination and the other didn't go into either of the first two female eliminations....right? Rivals went after vets--Aneesa & Robin and Davis & Tyrie first
Hm ok, how was Rivals any different from that? It wasn't.
I just told you how it was different! The Challenges that season weren't able to be set up to be rigged by the participants for a certain team to win. Yes...Wes/Kenny, Johnny/Tyler, and Evan/Nehemiah were in an alliance with the goal of eliminating CT/Adam before the final but it's not like challenges were set up where they could all gang up together to ensure they got in last place and that a team from their alliance was guaranteed safety each day. Anytime a team from their alliance came in first, it was because they were the legit best team in the competition that given day, not because their buddies laid down and let them win.

But what you just said is true, their challenges were "individual" and therefore it made it impossible to collude to pretty much dictate the winner and loser, and I don't like that at all either. But this season, 2 challenges were easy to rig and 2 weren't, and next week seems like it isn't, so let's hope it turns around !
If The Challenge gets renewed for one more season, at least we know the next cast will be STACKED in order to keep the series alive.
I was playing Mario Kart last night on my wii last night and it occur me that for the next challenge they should use point scoring for the challenges similar to the one they used on battle of the sexes 1.
Based on the preview for next week, it's the mission based on intelligence/pop culture. That one should be hard to manipulate.
I love it when they do these missions. Though I hope it's not (the questions) limited to previous seasons like they do sometimes. And I can't wait to see Jasmine this episode because TJ or rather the preview made it seem like she once again hit the water hard.
Please everyone stop naming shows that pulled 1%-3% of the 330 million Americans and blaming them for The Challenge's mediocre ratings (that's right, I said mediocre, not poor.) A show that gets 5 million viewers is not hurting another show's ratings more than a few percent. If people wanted to watch The Challenge the most, they would. The outside factors hurting the shows ratings likely start and end with the timing of Jersey Shore, and it's own ratings declines, because MTV doesn't really promote its shows on other networks. Like I said 2 weeks ago, most shows on MTV would kill for these ratings. Or half these ratings.

However, I think more credit has to be given to the competition that exists, not only for challenges, but for all of MTV. MTV's ratings are bleeding (see the my previous post). If they really want to compete, they will need to find more attractive programming for teens. Ten years ago, teens had MTV and that was pretty much it. ABC Family was called Fox Family and had no new programming, E! was airing True Hollywood Stories on OJ Simpson, and TLC was showing Trading Spaces every chance they got. There are so many new options for teens, and all viewers, across all cable. Last night's Walking Dead premiere received the highest 18-49 rating this fall across all channels- including broadcast. We can all sit here and blame the boring cast/missions/drama, that's not the case. There is simply more things to watch out there.
What were the ratings on Road Rules before it got cancelled?
ABC Family was called Fox Family and had no new programming, .
That's false. ABC Family always had new programs or shows coming out at that time. Just not ones that stink but they were still new shows, Andrew.
I feel like people are overreacting a little.. I honestly don't think it'll be cancelled anytime soon. If anything, they'll renew RW up to season 30 and have at least a couple challenges for the new kids. I agree with Andrew, there is just a lot to watch out there now. I know plenty of people who just watch the shows online only- most online episodes get like 200,000+ views a couple days after it airs Everyone just chill ^_^
The marketing for this show has to be changed. Even if the marketing is done right it can't force viewers to watch, which is why (my opinion) the episodes have reality/challenges/miscellaneous to fill the episode for the targeted audience's "expectations." P.S. I'm not even mentioning the sponsorship they need, business is a looong process =/
Last night's episode: 911,00 viewers 0.6 share As a reminder, last week's episode: 1,060,000 viewers 0.7 share And the premiere: 1,145,000 0.7 share
Ouch these ratings are worse than RW St. Thomas's ratings.
It's the demo that matters, not the ratings. So I think it's fine

This thread has been getting way off-topic. I just had to erase almost 100 posts that had nothing to do with the ratings.
Just to make some things clear, since some of you have your facts incorrect: 1. JD IS considered a rookie by BMP's payment standards. On this website as well as on any challenge, a rookie has always been referred to as a person who has done two or less challenges, with a veteran being someone who has done three or more. 2. Some of you are dangerously close to violating Vevmo's terms of services. Do not tell another user to "get over themselves", "chill", call them a genius, troll, or any other belittling name. 3. 102 posts were deleted in 7 hours. That has to be some sort of a record. If a post wasn't insulting to another member, it was way off topic. This thread is not to discuss "what if Brandon had been paired with Camila", "here are the comparisons to people that used to be on the challenges with people who aren't even on this current challenge", "this is what the next cast should be to get better ratings", etc etc. This thread is to discuss the ratings, not the shoulda coulda wouldas. If you cannot write an entire post in this thread without using a word like "ratings" at least twice, you should not be posting it here. If you have an issue with something someone has said, hit the report button. It's that red triangle next to the post number. If the moderators know that there are posts getting off topic, they can take care of it quickly. Simply posting "why is this thread so off-topic?" or "are we really having this discussion again?" is not going to help anyone and just adds to the useless number of posts. 4. Being able to ignore individual users doesn't make things any easier for us. There is a difference between disagreeing with someone's opinions and cluttering an entire board with the exact same opinion. Please don't clutter the entire forum with the exact same opinion. 5. Just another reminder to please use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Hitting the enter button instead of using a period has got to be one of the most aggravating things ever.
