No I can comprehend that because its reality. And the reality is MTV is not that big hip young channel it use to be. Even the VMA's don't get great ratings. MTV is kinda forgettable at this point. And I can't really say what they could do to bring it back. Other networks have taken there shine like Bravo, VH1, E!, even now BET is doing somewhat better than MTV. MTV is not marketing to the right audience.
Thank you. MTV needs to be gutted completely, revamped, and rebranded.
There demographic is wrong. Not to sound racist or anything but has anyone noticed here lately how black tv is killing right now! On cable and primetime. The highest rated show on Bravo is The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Even Lifetime is creating more shows and movies starring black actors. There reality television is even ratchet. VH1's most succesful shows star black people.
Then we have Mtv. Awkward, not a black person on the show. Eye Candy, a black person and she is irrelevant. Teen Wolf all white people. Like no main black character shows. There reality tv shows need to comeback to like The Hills, Laguna Beach, etc. no pregnant chicks that is dead. TV shows that are relatable that is why BET is doing good with the scripted series. They are funny (The Game) yet relatable (Being Mary Jane).
They need to go back to the normal RW for a season in Atlanta & have a very diverse cast.
Ooooo Mallory and Leah on The Challenge how "fun". NOT! And who is Kelfa? LMAOOO
IMO the theme is more important at this point than the casting. Cause as we see, even with big names on the challenge the ratings can still be low, but with the right theme, they have potential to grow and attract viewers.
However, having people on the challenge from 10 years ago pop up with no hardly no social media following and what not a do a challenge is a bad idea. At least with they cast now people recognize them and follow their lives.
The fact that many of you bash this show for a bunch of old people not being on the show is sad. Its like you don't know what change is. If I watch re-runs of The Challenge, it's from the newer seasons with the newer generation not with these old people. And if you hate the show so much and want it to be canceled (Lurker and Kvm) don't watch!!!!! Its simple. Cause obviously you hate the show more than you love it.

I think they still love it, because they still comment on every thing and hate pretty much everything that the majority is saying. Lurker just lost the argument, when he really believed those people would be good addition to this franchise now. People here really need to take into consideration that the majority of the viewers didn't watch every single season and pretty much have no clue what this show's history is all about and as a producer, I rather make the majority of the viewers happy than the minority of this board or on twitter, youtube, mtv.com fanpage...
Lurker I agree with most of your points but although ratings aren't that great compared to before, are good for MTV standards. MTV as a whole is doing bad and the challenge has the best ratings for it now.
Why do people act like they already know what these people's personalities will be like & what they'll bring to the show? We'll never know unless they actually bring them on so we can see for ourselves. ****, Simon & Mallory could be bat-shit crazy now. We've already seen an example of this (Tonya).
All Lurker is saying is to TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
All Lurker is saying is to TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
Because what they're doing now isn't cutting it.
The old-school viewers are a dying breed lol it's only a handful of us left. BMP/MTV are both obviously ok with mediocrity & a lot of the viewers (and posters here) are ok with it as well. I don't understand wanting to see the same thing over and over and over again but people seem to be fine with it, so they'll keep doing it smh
229 castmembers from just the Real World alone & people want to see the same 10-20 over & over again. Blows me but I don't have the answers.

Ikr? I wouldn't mind seeing Eric, Sahar, Joi (I really think it's unlikely she'd come on unless she's been seen saying otherwise?), Will or Ashlee. Who cares if they weren't remembered, they could be different if casted on The Challenge, especially since both Real World and The Challenge are different enviornments that could bring out something in those people that everyone claims to be backgrounds. They need to bring on a good mix of people from RR/RW that haven't been on yet but have expressed interest, have casted in the past but no longer bring them on for whatever reason, and those regulars people enjoy too.
Again, try something different. It doesn't hurt to attempt it at all.

Why take a risk with wallpapers? When now they have a bigger pool now days. They are trying something different, they are bringing AYTO people and I don't see it stopping based on the reddit answers Jon Murray gave last week. As much as I hated it.

I don't see why with THIS show in particular has to be like that. This is one of the only shows (BGC is the other) where the same, repetitive BS is favored over switching things up. You have to be "relevant" or you won't even be given a chance to prove yourself.

He said that them being brought back would be based on fan reaction supposedly. The casual fans don't like them.
My thing is WE DON'T KNOW if they'll be wallpaper. Katie was wallpaper on The Quest & look what happened.
I just miss really loving the show. I hate what is considered enjoyable drama, main reason I can't get myself to watch an episode of the real world anymore. I still watch the challenge, but it definitely is not a priority for me

I agree, I guess I'm just not into the same drama as everyone else seems to be. Hooks ups are pretty lame too, since they're all mostly the same. (actual relationships are better)
Some of this argument was really cringeworthy to read. But I think everyone knows where I side with this, so I'll leave it at that. (if you don't, I'm siding with Lurker & Graphik's points, but GD's made some good opposing points too)
To the poster who said they rely on drunken drama:
they actually monitor the drinking in the house, or at least this season they did. It was in Simone's afterbuzz. The only time they can really get drunk is the nights out they get. If anything, they rely on the cast being bored out of their minds to cause drama/hook ups.

Well yeah they are new school. That's common sense. However, he said that depending on fans react to them and how this season goes they may come back. So I wouldn't get use to them just yet.
All Lurker is saying is to TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

I agree so much and this is what bothers me the most with fans of this show. I really don't get why people want to see the same **** people and the same **** storylines over and over and over again. They don't seem to want anything new. They don't want to see new Ideas. New faces, New formats..nothing. They just want the same predictable BS that they've been fed for years now. I would think people would get sick of that at some point but they don't.
Me I'm diffrerent. I LIKE seeing new faces. I LIKE seeing new and interesting formats. That's why I ride so hard for new castmembers and new faces..Because I like seeing new things and I get bored with the same shit. And also I think that for this show to continue new people need to be brought on a given a shot. People don't seem to reazlie that. Not everyone that comes on this show wants to be Backpack and do challenges to the day they die. People move on and get lives and obligations. We can't expect these people to stay on TV forever.
Sometimes I feel like the fans of this show had a hand in ruining this show as well.
1. NO ******* RIVALS OR ALLIES. I do NOT want to see another pair challenge. Big Team or Indivitual please. It's too soon for Rivals and I don't want to see Allies.
2. If we need old-schoolers on then get people like Ruthie or Frank(Las Vegas 1) or even bring some of the Non-castmembers that haven't returned yet from Fresh Meat 2. or better yet..get people from newer RW seasons that haven't done a challenge yet that want to come on. I don't want to see Darrell or Landon. That's not diversity to me. It's repetition.
3. I personally would still ***** if CT/Backpack did make it to the end everytime. Both are old news and have nothing left to offer. They're not the only ones I'm sick of too. Leroy, Sarah, and Jonna could also stand to take a break. Wes and Aneesa need to give it up too.
1. You realise that Free Agents, an individual format, was the last challenge? BMP/MTV tries to avoid individual challenge, because they like the dynamics/drama when a team struggles or the partner pisses everyone off and you get the blame too. And the last 6 challenges (not counting Exes2) half of them were team or individual challenges so it isn't like we don't see those formats or we're stuck with pair challenges. It's completly in the middle in that regard. Team, Pair, Pair, Team, Pair, Indi.
2. I hate the fact that everybody thinks just because you were on the RW you have a free pass to do the Challenge. I don't want someone who was completely invinsible on their season to get cast to do a challenge. I think you should at least earn your spot too and I think BMP/MTV did a pretty good job to cast the right people from the RW for the Challenge.
3. I think CT and Bananas still give you something to watch. See Exes, Rivals2 and Free Agents. You should better not say that they don't have anything to offer. Bananas was public enemy numero 1 on Free Agents and will probably be on Exes 2 and after the passing of Diem, CT will do everything to get the win for Diem and medgift....this guy is on a mission. CT and Bananas being old news is just laughable when they dominated the last 4 seasons they did confessional and drama-wise. Rivals, Exes, Rivals2 and FA. DA you should realise that there're many, many, many people who are not sick of seeing Leroy, Sarah, Jonna, Wes and Aneesa...so they do not need to give it up.
1. Um what? Last time I checked The last indivitual challenge prior to Free Agents was The Duel 2(and even that wasn't entirley indivitual) And that was MORE than 6 seasons ago. What you don't get is with Partner challenges people understand that they have to work with their partner in order to get anywhere . You can't trade them or get rid of them like you can in a Big Team Challenge. And no the last 6 seasons have been mostly partner challenges. I don't remember no **** Big Team challenge recently so what are you talking about?
2. Yeah being on RW acutally gives you a pass to be on The Challenges know why? BECAUSE THIS SHOW IS A SPIN-OFF OF THE REAL WOLRD! ROAD RULES TOO. Now I understand that there are people who are boring and may not add that much to the show but you know what? There are people on the challenge right now who aren't that much more interesting. And maybe the people who were boring on RW/RR may be intersing on The Challenge. Devyn and Katie are perfect exampels of people who didn't do much on RW/RR but shined on the challenges. And plus there are people who were interesting and big parts of their respective RW seasons that BMP passed up and didn't really considerfor challenges. People like Will/Erika/Ashley(DC)/Andrew/Parisa..I think those people(and more) should get a shot at challenges and maybe becoming regulars..
3. No. CT and Backpack don't have shit else to offer. On the 3 challenges you listed Backpack didn't make any impact on it on his own..if he was involved in anything it had more to do with other people rather than himself. In order for him to be interesing someone else usually has to get the ball rolling. Look at Rivals 2/Free Agents/Cutthroat..perfect examples. CT was been irelevant this past season and the only reason people are talking about him this season is because of Diem's death. As bad as this may sound but I really don't care about him trying to win money for Medgift. I really don't. That's not interesting to me. It may be for others but not for me. I'm so sick of the CT/Diem story. I want something else now.
Also AYTO on challenges need to not become a regular thing.
This isn't Survivor or Big Brother...this show can't rely solely on "new cast members"...that's why not including past players is the mistake. We see the same people over and over again and they're the new kids with the exception of Bananas, CT, Wes & Aneesa...and maybe Sarah. Nany, Jonna, Zach, Leroy, Dustin, Cara Maria, Camila, Knight, Jemmye, etc....it is the same "new kids" over and over again because they stopped bringing in people like Darrell, Rachel, Abram, etc. You need a balance. It is honestly hysterical when people talk about Landon having done too many challenges...or Susie. They done FOUR. Most of the new kids have done as many or more in a 4-5 year period. Landon and Susie should be on every once in a while--no one here is saying they should be on every season. No one should be on every season. But they should limit the show to the past handful of seasons of the show. It should emcompass the entire history of the Real World & Road Rules. If people from the past want to come back then bring them own. Clearly it worked with Trishelle as they brought her back for Rivals 2. It would work with many others as well.
Including the past isn't about not including the newbies...it is about creating a better product. CT & Bananas only show up every time because of mistakes made by casting (Evan/Kenny).
Seriously, people need to look at how many challenges people have done before they say stupid things

Honestly I agree with you, tbh I'd rather see CT honoring diem and her charity outside the show than doing one just because he wants to win for her, for me that doesn't makes sense mostly because bmp/mtv don't care about diem charity but only about continuing the CT/Diem, at this point ct coming back will keep bringing diem back with him.
If CT wants peace and doesn't want people on his bussines, then he should know better and not doing the challenges at least for a while, I honestly hope he is not on the next one.

That's because BMP/MTV focuses on them. I'm assure everybody on the show can be involved in a storyline, BMP/MTV rather chose older vets over newer cast memebers not allowing them to get a larger fan base.
That's the only issue. I'm fine with Bananas and CT as long as they aren't the main attraction all the time. Although, they are did a fair job on Free Agents, not focusing on CT as much. Bananas was another story...
Yep. In the first episodes of Rivals 2 CT got alot of Screentime. Backpack got a fair amount too. Everyone on this show can get some focus on this show but they choose to make it the "CT and Backpack show..And Friends!" I'll admit that they've gotten better with that. Many of the new kids last season and this season are getting focus and I'm happy to see it.
And the only reaason Backpack got any real focus on Free Agents was because of Jordan. Had He not challenged him. I think Backpack would've been just as irrelevant at CT was.

1. I was refering to Free Agents being the last season and they will probably not do an individual season anytime soon. BMP/MTV always do some seasons in-between individual challenges. Battle of the Seasons 2 and Cutthroat were team challenges. It doesn't matter the size of the teams. They were team challenge and that's every three season being one team challenge. You can even go one and take Ruins and FM2 into it. That's 3 out of 8 challenges. If you take FA, that's means half of these past eight challenges weren't pair challenges.
2. You want someone you was there only for like 2.5 episodes to get the chance to be on the Challenge? That's what I meant with a free pass. At least people should earn their spot on the Challenge and a chance to win money. Devyn and Katie. That's two challengers in eleven years who shined and both also shined because they were not really the active pole on drama or competition side, but rather were put into their roles.
3. Bananas and CT still made impact on those seasons and delievered drama/hook-ups/fights. Whether it was them being the active pole or on the defensive site. They still were involved in multiple storylines and were the big names coming out of those seasons which is the topic here.
Thanks for this post!!!!
The problem is though that Landon and Susie have declined the initial calls almost everytime the producers asked them as did Coral, Beth, Veronica, Julie, Abram (Not wanting to do one with CM), Derrick, Frank R. and Brad and many fan favorite. If you believe what molds13, V1man and PinkRose said multiple times. So it's not like BMP/MTV is not trying to get those veterans. The only ones that said yes were Darrell, Rachel and Mark. Why they didn't cast them, I don't understand it. Trishelle went home in one of the most embarrasing way this show has every seen. Which got people calling her Trashelle and bashing her on twitter which ultimatilly forced her to stop doing challenges.
I was replying to your novel sweetheart. I never said they would be good additions to the show. Never.
Agreed. I won't be able to stomach it if AYTO is on a Co-Ed Rivals.
I hate what the show has become.
Lurker I agree with most of your points but although ratings aren't that great compared to before, are good for MTV standards. MTV as a whole is doing bad and the challenge has the best ratings for it now.
Here's a question: is the current majority the diehards? Or is it the casual viewers?
Why do people act like they already know what these people's personalities will be like & what they'll bring to the show? We'll never know unless they actually bring them on so we can see for ourselves. ****, Simon & Mallory could be bat-shit crazy now. We've already seen an example of this (Tonya).
All Lurker is saying is to TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
I still watch the challenge, but it definitely is not a priority for me
In one of the questions he stated to look at are you the one as part of the new school...I took that as get used to see them.
#DoubleD.
He also said:
JonathanMurray[S] 1 point
I mean he could easily mean just the four from Exes 2 as part of the "new school".
