With this drama club cast of theirs, I wouldn't risk putting any of them on air live ever.
I don't know a single company that would offer E & O insurance for a live challenge. They all are greedy, but they are not stupid.
I wonder if Jersey Shore pulls in rerun audiences ahead of Challenge first runs because they flood the tube with Jersey Shore whenever its season is on but never do that with RW/Challenges. Same with Teen Mom. I really don't know how they can afford the Challenges with these numbers unless they get a ton of money from Under Armor.
Because there's nobody on The Challenges anymore who people give a care about. Not to mention that fact that they had the some of the same exact people on the show for seasons straight.

Guaranteed (only somebody would be as likely to pull their own top off as not).
Okay that was random. Who is to say that that would be even relevant? I'm sure that wouldn't happen.
FCC fines tend to be extreme. With a live show, like with the Superbowl incident, there is no room for editing if something happens. If people will do flamboyant things to get camera time on the edited challenge show, I think you would be optimistic to think they wouldn't do it on a live show.
I don't know a single company that would offer E & O insurance for a live challenge. They all are greedy, but they are not stupid.
I probably should add for the novice readers: if there is no insurance coverage, there will be no live challenge. Every network (VIACOM in this case) has similar legal requirements for insurance coverage prior to broadcast.
After the disastrous Hollywood reunion, I have no interest in these shows doing anything live ever again.
Now here we have an awesome episode and its probably going to take a hit in ratings. Bah! Anyway, I'm calling a 1.0 18-49 I think basketball tonight is going to take a chunk as well.
Predicting a 1.5 million with a .9 .
I think Ratings will be the same or maybe better than last week because the Challenge had 3 trending topics on twitter last night.
I think Ratings will be the same or maybe better than last week because the Challenge had 3 trending topics on twitter last night.
Actually 4 trending topics; Aneesa, Leroy and Naomi, Wes and Mandi, Poor Sarah were all trending!
Actually 4 trending topics; Aneesa, Leroy and Naomi, Wes and Mandi, Poor Sarah were all trending!
In the beginning of the episode, The Challenge, Battle of The Exes, and Tyrie were trending, as well as Johnny and Camila and Sarah and Vinny during the actual challenge.
I think Ratings will be the same or maybe better than last week because the Challenge had 3 trending topics on twitter last night.
But you only need a couple thousand people to be tweeting.
My predictions: 2.0 million with a 1.2
MTV's The Challenge: Battle of the Exes rose four tenths of a point vs. last week's premiere to a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating to lead original shows on cable Wednesday night.
via
Wow, I am shocked at the ratings for sure! I thought the train-wreck of a season San Diego would hurt it but I guess not.
Pleasantly surprised at how high the ratings were. I thought those were the numbers the premiere would get but I thought it would dip after what I felt was a boring first episode.
Just as a quick correction, it only rose two tenths to a 1.4 rating - the table is correct, but the text is wrong. Still good numbers. Edit: I see, already corrected :)
DANG! Definitely surprised. But another surpersition here is that the week after the Superbowl ALL ratings on tv shows go down. But anyways GREAT for BOTE looking to get the challenge renewed for 2 more times if it keeps up!
Wow. Finally The Challenge is getting the numbers it deserves. It's the best show on MTV right now in my opinion Hopefully they can sustain this.
Wow. Finally The Challenge is getting the numbers it deserves. It's the best show on MTV right now in my opinion Hopefully they can sustain this.
Well tbf it doesn't have much competition with quality reality show wise lol
Wow 2.2 Million this season is off to a great start and I'm not really surprised because the cast is great and the teaming with an ex concept really got people interested because people can relate to some of the ex's issues.
That is awesome. Beyond expectations. I am used to the second episode drop but for some reason that didn't happen. Maybe some of the older cast members have more fans that tune in? One thing that I know has helped me gain interest is all the social network talk surrounding the shows lately. We have twitter, Derrick's podcast, and Brandon's' podcast. I think the cast is doing a great job of adding extra promotion that is keeping us fans interested. Now that I know a little more about everybody I find the show all the more entertaining. Question: How do you guys post a tidbit of the ratings like that in the thread? Are you taking a screen cap and then uploading a picture of that or is there some other trick you are doing?

Great numbers for the show but that the Big Bang reruns off-station did as well is depressing from a Challenge POV (I do love that show though)
I'll go out on a limb this evening and suggest that we'll see an audience of +/- 200K from a 2.2M Nielsen number. At least I hope the number is that robust.
I'm feeling better now about my prediction from last week.
MTV Press Release
MTV'S "THE CHALLENGE: BATTLE OF THE EXES" GROWS FROM ITS HIGHLY RATED SEASON PREMIERE, ATTRACTING MORE THAN 2.2 MILLION VIEWERS New York, NY - (February 2, 2012) - Last night's episode of "The Challenge: Battle of the Exes" delivered a 2.2 P12-34 rating, growing 16% from last week's season premiere, the highest rated debut the franchise has seen in eight seasons. "The Challenge: Battle of the Exes" was Wednesday's #1 original cable series and ranked #1 in its 10:00-11:00 p.m. time slot across all TV. With more than 2.2 million viewers tuning in to last night's second episode, "The Challenge" is off to its fastest start in eight seasons. In next week's episode, airing Wednesday, February 8 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, Abram struggles with insecurity over his on-and-off relationship with Cara Maria, while Paula and Dunbar seem to be getting over their issues-for now. And physical injuries put not one, but two teams, in jeopardy of going home.
I'm feeling better now about my prediction from last week.
If the show keeps that rating, perhaps with a small drop for the last episodes, how do you think are its chances for renewal?
If the show keeps that rating, perhaps with a small drop for the last episodes, how do you think are its chances for renewal?
I think some people have already been approached about a summer challenge.
I think some people have already been approached about a summer challenge.
Thanks, that is definitely interesting.
I think as long as it stays over 1.5 mill and .9 should be good for renewal.
