Hmmm. wonder what the deal is this season. Ratings have been pretty steady while previous seasons seem to be all over the place. Hopefully they go up again soon even though this looks pretty good. Wish BMP or someone would release a statement talking about how ratings are in the target demographic.

I think we might be left in the dark for a while. For one I think they would like to see how Pauly D's show does and see how the Tonya lawsuit is working out before any set decisions.
Who knows. BMP may already know but they are not announcing it for fear that Tonya's lawyers might start salivating and therefore derail any possible negotiations. There could be reasons either way. They are definitely holding the ratings more consistently than with recent seasons from what I can tell (I really don't use up a lot of my limited gray matter on keeping up with such things).
I doubt Pauly D or the Snookie/Jwoww spinoffs really have that much to do with it. MTV does seem to have a few different new reality shows in production based on my twitter stalking looking for RW clues, but they seem to be more along the lines of Caged.
Target Demo ratings for last week's Episode. I did not post last week's chart because that episode did not rank in the top 10.
MTV's The Challenge: Battle of the Exes was again even with last week at a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating, but still led original shows on cable Wednesday night. Discovery Channel's premiere of the new season of Sons of Guns claimed the second spot for original programming for the night.
Great it is holding steady good ratings. Surprised the Top Chef finale did so weak. Always amazed that Big Bank Theory re-runs so handedly beat out new shows.

I'm not too shocked with Top Chef because of the people that were in the finale. It was quite obvious who was going to win. As for Big Bang Theory, I think that show is great and I normally watch reruns myself, just not at that time.

Top Chef ratings were down after Grayson left. She was the reason I watched.
It really should have been renewed by now. I wonder what they are waiting for.
If they want to renew it, that just starts a negotiating process. Their could be trouble reaching a mutually satisfactory dollar figure.
Or BMP may want to be out of the Challenge business.
It really should have been renewed by now. I wonder what they are waiting for.
My guess is they already know on both sides but that they are not announcing it due to the Tonya lawsuit. I have seen a social networking message that once seemed bizarre regarding info on a potential summer filming location, but given RW: St. Thomas, I think anything may be possible at this point.
I think this is the most stable I've ever seen a show on ratings. I mean Jersey Shore one day it will be 7 million then the next one it will be 5 million. Teen Mom has been falling. But BOTE hasn't dropped below 1.9mill and hasn't dropped below 1.2.
Top Chef ratings were down after Grayson left. She was the reason I watched.
And my reason as well, although Grayson was in the finale on Sarah's team.
~~~
But so people don't lose perspective regarding last week... here is the top ten cable 18 - 34 demo list. Note the placement of The Challenge: The Exes.
Well happy to see the NBA is doing so well. All those fans talking about jumping ship must have been talking about hopping off their laker and onto a clipper or something.
Well happy to see the NBA is doing so well. All those fans talking about jumping ship must have been talking about hopping off their laker and onto a clipper or something.
Those fans talking about jumping ship forgot about how exciting the NBA is. It is also funny that they were talking about going to hockey even though hockey had a lockout like 8 years ago.
A consistent 1.9 million viewers and 1.2 rating is good for the potential renewal. They can't control the NBA having a big week with 4 things in the top 10 for that 18-34 demo.
When one's favorite show is not in the top 10, some people give reasons that others may call excuses. To me, it's simply one factor to consider in the overall analysis of the show. :wizard:
I do not look at it regularly, but I am pretty sure I have seen Exes not on that list the few other times I did check it out (and I don't recall sports being on it then). It never makes sense to me that the focus of the 13-34 (really 13-17 imo) demographic.
You're correct. in the former observation. However, the weekly 18-34 compilation by Media Life Magazine is the closest snapshot available to the general public approximating the desired MTV demographic. It's really all we have. MTV, of course, buys the full Nielsen service and gets the real numbers across the full demographic spectrum. That is what advertisers and agencies see, too.
Sports is cyclic. Major sports events on satellite/cable channels will show up (e.g., BoSox vs. EvilEmpire [just for Bacchus] on ESPN), will usually appear in the Top Ten. At the end of the day, either The Challenge or RW is in the Top Ten, or it isn't. I don't attempt to draw many significant conclusions either from its appearance or its absence. When one of them is in the Top Ten, I cheer quietly. When they aren't, I blame BMP for the ****ty editing, lame, repetitive (read as "over-water") challenges or insipid casting.
I'm actually confused as to why those BoSox vs. EvilEmpire games don't garner Superbowl like ratings! ;)
Maybe it is because it is evil empire vs evil empire in a 4.5 hour long game.
Well I personally see it at Yankees vs Evil Empire, but they're the most stressful games since you know it's not gonna be easy and those losses hurt the most, so people would rather not watch it for those reasons. I'm sure there are some people who don't want to watch Exes for a certain episode if they know their favorite is going home.
And of course the length thing, especially like 2 or 3 years ago when they played on ESPN for like 4 or 5 hours and the score was only 1-0 on a Giambi infield single.
Even though in February is when ratings go down for most shows I think March will hurt the Challenge because of Basketball. But we'll see tomorrow at 3:30.
The second of the four annual Neilsen sweeps ratings periods is 4 February – 3 March 2010. This period measures relative interest in the "2nd season" of the broadcast year when the networks are ending their major shows and bringing on the "winter" replacements. In recent years, cable has messed with the old model, in part as a counter-programming tool. One major value of this sweeps period is the measurement of the gain in (or move of) viewers to the cable market. USA, TNT, ScyFi, and others have benefited enormously from the Feb sweeps. Whereas the Fall ratings have much to do with the success of broadcast TV, the Feb Sweeps speak more to the diversity of the medium. Neilsen's numbers adjust for local and regional sports or other special things that conflict the the broadcast schedule. Unless it's March Madness in full effect nationwide, the impact is not major.
