I might want to bandwagon this Revenge train. I heard it's been good online but not really anywhere else. Without me being nosy about ratings on TVBTN I wouldn't know the show existed.
David E. Kelley is the principal writer. He was the mind behind Ali McBeal and Boston Legal, two very tightly written shows.
It's actually Mike Kelley who's behind Revenge, not David E. Kelley. Also David's show was Ally not Ali.

I have no idea why I get those two guys confused, I like them both. {corrected in the original post above. Thanks g30068}:good:
Kind of shocked that you haven't. It's a major primetime show. It's still in the first season, but it is everywhere, including newsstands, internet, and even here on Vevmo. I'm going to assume most hardcore challenge fans have never heard of it.
Revenge may be "a major primetime show" but outside its not that well known so I can see where he is coming from.

Wednesday's viewer numbers were 7,580,000 viewers for Revenge. I dare say it is better known at the present time than Exes.
Saw the 1st episode of Revenge & it was awful. Boring characters, bad writing, ****** acting... For the life of me I can't understand what the fuss is about.

Broadcast and cable are two different ballparks though.

I think V1man is trying to say just that from his comment. Broadcast is going to get more viewings hands down (that's probably factoring in that not everyone has cable), even if cable advertises the show better (in this case I would say Exes hasn't compared to Revenge, but who knows).

That's the thing, you can't judge a show just from the pilot. You have to get over the hump because the pilot is normally filmed months in advanced and then if they get picked up they continue what they started months ago.
Even within cable there is an odd dynamic with MTV. Based on TV By The Numbers, MTV ranks okay in terms of primetime viewers but high among 18-49 primetime viewers and isn't even on the charts for the top daytime viewers. I attribute a big part of the 18-49 average on Jersey Shore, but it makes little sense to me that as a network they focus so much on 13-17 year olds when they make up such a small part of the actual audience. I suspect that without JS, their primetime averages would be way off what they are.

Indeed, and that is especially the case with Revenge - the pilot got very mixed reviews and created nearly no buzz, but the show improved significantly very quickly. Although I did not notice bad acting even in the first episode.
It's a scary week this week. Everything literally everything has dropped in ratings besides The Walking dead Or anything Grammy related. My guess is a 1.4 mill with a .7 tomorrow night.

I will be lower but I doubt that lower--maybe 1.7-1.9 range.
BTW, I cannot fathom how it happened, but Johnny on Fox News promoting the show probably won't hurt even though he was a smucky interview.
For some odd reason everything, yes even the "amazing" Revenge has been dropping in ratings this week. And really badly like season lows. I'm scared. If the challenge does well tonight I have no doubt that BOTE will be renewed.

Yes, very strange. Almost every single show dropped in ratings last night except two. Survivor even hit a FRANCHISE low.
ABC''s The Middle had a season low matching 2.5 adults 18-49 rating, down a tenth vs. a 2.6 adults 18-49 rating last week. Suburgatory fell to a series low 2.4 adults 18-49 rating, vs. a 2.6 rating last week. Modern Family had a season low 4.7 adults 18-49 rating, vs. a 5.5 rating last week. Modern Family fans may want to check out its city by city relative ratings. Happy Endings drew a season low 2.5 adults 18-49 rating, vs. a 2.9 adults 18-49 rating last week. Revenge's 2.4 adults 18-49 rating tied a series low, down a tenth vs. last week's 2.5 rating. Note: All season/series lows do not include the pre-Thanksgiving episodes which ABC designated as "specials".
The season premiere of Survivor: One World had a franchise low premiere 3.0 adults 18-49 rating, down 6% vs. the 3.2 rating for the Spring 2011 premiere of Survivor: Redemption Island. With Survivor in front of it, Criminal Minds hit a season low 3.0 adults 18-49 rating, down 9% vs. a 3.3 rating last week. CSI bucked the CBS/ABC downdraft, rising to a 2.7 adults 18-49 rating, vs. a 2.5 rating last week.
Whitney drew a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating, up 7% vs. a 1.5 rating last week. Are You There Chelsea? fell to a 1.4 adults 18-49 rating, vs. a 1.5 rating last week. Rock Center With Brian Williams had a 0.8 adults 18-49 rating, vs. a 1.1 rating last week. Law & Order: SVU hit a series low 1.7 adults 18-49 rating, vs. a 2.0 rating last week.
One Tree Hill drew a 0.7 adults 18-49 rating, even vs. a 0.7 rating last week. Limping towards its end, Remodeled had a series low 0.2 adults 18-49 rating, vs. a 0.3 rating last week.
It's definitely getting renewed. Like you stated earlier Survivor hit a franchise low and even though it's not the same time slot the challenge is still sustaining the numbers.
And TVBTN tends to get the text above the table chart wrong from time to time but whatever is in the table is always right.

Yup, he appears to have edited it. Better to see the words "even" than "1.0".
It's definitely getting renewed..
Its a pretty big jump from "It's numbers are worthy of renewal" to "It's definitely getting renewed".
There's a LOT of other factors involved: Network direction, staleness of the show, profitability for all parties involved (ratings don't dictate profits, ask NBC how much it made off of Friends and Law and Order. Or the NFL), lawsuits *cough*, all sorts of things.
I have a guess that it will be picked up for another 1-3 seasons. I wouldn't promise it.

Very true. That's what I meant though if BMP/MTV is looking to renew the challenge just on ratings, it's worthy.

I don't expect to see that unless the Tonya Cooley lawsuit is all but settled. Until then, I expect it to be a season at a time.
The low numbers for other shows--Valentine's Day, Valentine's Eve, etc
BTW, I read that Comcast is in the process of forcing its standard cable customers to migrate to digital. Maybe that has something to do with ratings being equally down over a wide-range of programming.

If I were placing bets at the track, I'd look to CastAStone for insight of the horses and Jockeys.
Everybody?
Well maybe he/she used it strongly but more people seem to care for her than unknown individuals. I mean I still watch both the funeral, coverage and the challenges. But then again I always multitask, lol.

Hope this season continues with good ratings. I thought last nights episode was the best yet, and since we are pretty much left with all the big dogs, it should be a great second half of the season as well.
