I also agree with Dart.....MTV needs to step their game up in the promotion department. What I notice is how MTV is promoting, just like Diddys record label. They try to spend little or no money on promotion, and in return expect huge numbers. What is that old saying again. " You have to spend money, to make money." Hopefully B what you said happens. This season reminds me more of RW:Miami. Then any party, drama season....well so far.
I mean, I hardly watch MTV besides Real World and The Challenges, but when I happen to, I never see one commercial.
maybe if MTV would actually promote the show the ratings would be better. I am surprised last season did better because this cast is so much more entertaining.
Promote and promote well. I agree with you - the Cancun cast is definitely entertaining. However, with the way Mtv marketed the season (blatantly stating that it would be nothing like Brooklyn) was, I felt, a slap in the face to viewers who really enjoyed last season. That could be another reason why Cancun had the smallest premiere audience ever. Hopefully the season will pick up momentum as it goes along.
I think you need to look at the fact that it is replayed the entire week and you can also watch it at mtv.com or itunes. It's just not on 1 night like everything else. MTV always replays their shows.

No matter how it is spun, this was the lowest premiere for the show - ever.
However, they were doing the same thing for Brooklyn and it had much better ratings.
If I recall, didn't Brooklyn also have a lot of good publicity on the side, since it was being billed as more of a throwback season?
I know that a lot of people at My college stopped watching after last season. I have tried to explain to so many people that this season is different. They said they will no longer watch but I do not know if they did since were no longer in class.

But I digress... :)
Wow. Those are incredibly dissapointing numbers.

It's also summer....I mean this is a bad time to premiere TV shows, since many are outside or on vacation.

Why is anybody surprised? MTV did NOTHING to promote it. Brooklyn had the Paley Center thing, each cast member had an individual commercial, Real World Secrets Revealed was centered around Brooklyn, they had Colie & Johanna do the house tour, they had so many different commercials. Everyone says Brooklyn was boring? The ratings prove otherwise. Cancun was not promoted at all. Hopefully this episode does better. Salt & Vinegar- if you didn't like Brooklyn you probably don't want to watch DC. :). And whoever said its up to DC to save to the series, they already have a contract for 3 more seasons after DC. I think RW is saved until season 26, and challenges until 21 for now.

Somebody needs to be fired at MTV. IMO, the ratings prove what people want to see and don't want to see.
Everyone says Brooklyn was boring? The ratings prove otherwise.
Very true and I have a feeling that if Cancun's ratings stay as they are, we will likely be seeing seasons more in-tune with Brooklyn and (assumedly) Washington DC.

I just don't get it, Hollywood and Brooklyn were promoted like crazy, and MTV fell asleep on this one.
I think Cancun can make a strong comeback. We all saw what happened in the Duel II. An average of 1.5 million throughout most of the season and look at the finale ratings, 2.2 million viewers and #3 in the top 10. Lets just hope that Cancun can come back.
MTV is crazy for not promoting this season. I'm pretty sure Vevmo did more promoting than MTV ;).
Dplayer, we always end up doing more promoting. The Island, The Duel 2, and obviously Cancun. Let's hope this season picks up.
With all the drama to come, I think the season will eventually pick up.
I hope this season gets better ratings.
I don't understand why everyone thinks that just because next season is in DC it will be like Brooklyn. I do not think that the location decides what kind of season it will be. It is all on the cast. Also, DC has a great night life and lots the cast could easily party and get drunk all the time.
Did you see what type of people they were casting? The season is supposed to be like Brooklyn. They are alternating, party season/ serious season. What do you have against serious seasons?
I have absolutly nothing against serious seasons. I find B2NY extremely serious and it is favorite of mine. I would love for DC to be serious. I just don't find Brooklyn at all serious. San Fransisco is a great season from what I've seen and I think it could be one of the most serious seasons ever. I think Hollywood was great because it was more like the early seasons.
A few people I know hated Brooklyn because it was a 'serious' season. Maybe it turned a few people off of Cancun. Remember though, MTV is really looking to get strong 18-34 numbers. If those are low, then there is a problem.
i know a lot of my friends didnt like Brooklyn because it was too serious and all that. i told them thats why the real world is. well wha it was and what it should be. but thats they all started with Vegas, i started with like Seattle? One of those early seasons when i was little. So i think thats why we disagree. I like the heavy seasons much more. I got turned off after Vegas for a bit but i got back into it with Brooklyn. I got caught up on mtv.com (a friend of mine had some other seasons on tape not on mtv.com, i wish they would post them all). I was sad to see Cancun was the enxt season, sof ar im not feeling it, i hope some real issues pop up. but ive also only seen half of the first episode.
I think we will see an improvement because the opening day of Transformers was on the same day as the premiere. With all of that hype for the movie, I would bet most people that watched Real World would've went to see the movie and just watch the episode online the next day. I predict an increase in viewers.
Honestly, the low rating don't surprise me. People tend to judge books by their covers. Even I did at first but I also decided to give the new season a chance, and frankly I really like it. I really hope the season's ratings pick up.
I think the ratings will build up soon.
I hope the ratings remains low so BMP realizes their stupidity for filming the show in Cancun.

Henry, I think you should respect the Cancun cast's season a little bit more considering that they will probably read this thread later...
