1.98 is still awesome would of been even better if they cracked 2 million again but ratings did increase from the last few weeks which is good.
One needs to measure apples to apples... An audience of 1.98 used to give many of us lots of concern when it was the 18-34 demographic.

I think its safe to say the Challenge will be renewed because collectively this season was the most watched season in a long time because even though Rivals saved the series for another season the ratings were very inconsistent all season until the final episodes whereas this season ratings were high from start to finish.

Very true. But there's a lot to take into with renewing contracts. Does MTV still want to do it? Does MTV think it will be worthwhile? How is the Lawsuit playing out? How does the challenge compare to other MTV shows ratings wise? I think it will be renewed though because the season average is higher than rivals but you never know, it's also good news that Jersey Shore is declining, Teen Mom is slightly declining, but The Challenge is slowly going up each season.

I recently posted in another thread that there will be another challenge. What I want MTV to do is to bring back the things that routinely brought the 18 - 34 numbers in above 2M. "Just good enough" to renew doesn't mean it's good TV. It can, and should, be so much better.

With two spinoffs and a season 6 with some new cast members, Jersey Shore arguably isn't declining that much (unfortunately). The problems w/RW & Challenges has nothing to do with competition from a show on the same network. If anything, JS high ratings just is salt in the wound considering how horrible that show is.
I'm pretty sure Exes averaged better rating week-to-week than Rivals.
Yes, Rivals had a 386,000 more viewers than Exes and had a higher 18-49 rating. However, Exes went up against South Park while Rivals had Royal Pains.
Point is that the Challenge will most certainly be renewed.

V1man, what do you think MTV or BMP should do to bring the 18-34 numbers above 2M?

In short, if the challenges are fun for the cast, properly edited for the viewers to enjoy, and the right people are cast... That's the best I can do. Since I am a consultant in the industry and MTV can always hire me to give them advice, I'd be foolish to give away the good stuff here.
Actually, I have a great deal of respect for the singular decision maker at MTV. She knows what to do, even if she hasn't yet bought the shows we've pitched to her.
Johnny gave a big insider clue to the problem IMO with the show in his interview on the network whose name name cannot be mentioned when he talked/bragged about how they cast people who create drama and that was the way to keep getting asked back. They reward bad behavior and not good behavior and that is something I think the 18-49 year olds get turned off by.
And V1, when I win the Megamillions 1/2 billion, I'll start a scrappy little network and take your call :)

Don't forget making it at least slightly more fair so that it's not ridiculously easy to hijack the show and make it go pretty much however you wish to (as in Rivals and Exes with the choose who goes in AND then order after stuff).

I think the past couple of seasons BMP has found the right formula for success they have selected great cast members with a good mix of old and new faces, as well as new formats and new locations. But most importantly they figured out the right cast makes the show great and instead of throwing random people together on a challenge and locking them up in a house for a month or so they've picked fun cast members and take them out to clubs, bars, and beaches as well as changing challenge locations for the final. Also they went back to getting people fresh from their Real World seasons instead of having to wait a year to see someone like after RW Las Vegas we seen Leroy, Mike, & Adam on the next challenge Rivals whereas past seasons we would have to wait till this current season Battle of the Exes to see the RW Las Vegas kids. As a fan it was cool to see Leroy, Mike, & Adam again on Rivals right after RW Las Vegas and the same for Nate & Priscilla on Battle of the Exes right after RW San Diego.
Nooo, this one season renewal stuff again?
Anyway, I noticed that there are some names/companies that can't be mentioned around here. What is up with that? Is it because of who owns this website or what? I haven't encountered that on a forum before.

I know of no such prohibition regarding companies. There is one regarding a cast member from the Hollywood season who is persona non grata as the result of an intolerable offense committed by the individual.
Hmmm... I see.
Anyway...

What can we do to get MTV to hire you for your services? :D

You can't say the Fox channel that gives us "News" since it shows up as *******.
Anyway I guess the ratings were good enough, but I still say this season was pretty boring and didn't get better at the end like Rivals did, hence how it just stayed the same the whole way through.

I have no idea what you mean. Fox's News Channel ?
2 Words: Fox News
1 Word: *******
Two words means you are talking about Fox News.
One word means you are attempting to create a link. Yes, those are banned. As the sole website proprietor I made the decision last summer (News of the World Phone Hacking Scandal) that I would not materially participate in linking to Murdoch Empire websites as I have both philosophical and moral objections to the way they conduct business.
The 18-34 ratings are in for last week. Here is the Top 10 List, courtesy of Medialifemagazine.com This rating period included part 2 of the final challenge.

This info reveals that 650,000 measured viewers of this Challenge episode are in the 35-49 group. [For the math-inclined, the viewer total in the 18 - 49 demographic was 1810] On their own, these people represent numbers MTV doesn't always see in prime time. I'd expect that most of them are "legacy viewers," people who watched the challenges or RW in past years when they were in the younger demographic. It's significant that they represent 1/3 of the viewers of the show, which argues that MTV should continue to use older cast members with a strong Q score.
(For those in need of a "Q" refresher, here is the wiki info):
So basically.... us ex kids matter. :)
Yes, and Mark's comments on the Reunion show last night affirm that MTV recognizes there is an audience for him (and perhaps other Old School cast members) that will mean profit for them.
I'm still partial to Mark's idea of himself and Eric Nies captaining two challenge teams in a Battle of the Titans.
In case anyone was interested... (It's at the bottom of the screenshot btw..)
I honestly think theres 3 reasons people didnt watch. Outrage over who won, didnt know about the reunion lack of advertisment, and it looked boring.
The reunion wasn't held at very high expectations, and it didn't disappoint. It was a horrible reunion. Not that the reunions shows are ever any good anyway, this one sucked. As did the challenge itself, from The Ruins-Battle of the Exes, I would rank Battle of the Exes 4 out of 5, right in front of Fresh Meat II.
With just over 1M in the 18-49 demo, one just knows intuitively that the 18-34 number is going to be below 1M, and won't even show up on the weekly "Top Ten" advertising supported shows. It's a damn good thing MTV renewed the series before the Reunion show ratings came out; although, I fairness, I should mention that BMP produces challenge and MTV itself produces the Reunion show.
[South Park, American Dad, Duck Dynasty, Psych and an NBA event on ESPN kick our Reunion *** between 10 & 11 pm.]
Yeah that's something I'll never understand is how anyone can watch drivel such as South Park and Family Guy, let alone in the numbers those shows put up. To each their own I suppose.
